Yes, Disney•Pixar Toy Story 3 runs on PS5, but the version you are playing matters. The March 14, 2025 PlayStation Store release is a PSP conversion for PS4 and PS5 with up-rendering, rewind, quick save and video filters. Sony warns that conversion differences can change how it plays and can leave some features unavailable. A separate Toy Story 3 Complete Edition listing shows a PS4/PS5 release dated October 15, 2026, with upgraded graphics, resolution and frame rate, DualSense vibration, local two-player co-op and extra Toy Box content. Store metadata and availability can change, so check the edition shown on your console before troubleshooting.
Most problems can be isolated without deleting progress: protect the save first, update the console, controller and game, test a new game without the old save, then move through reversible fixes before reinstalling or using Safe Mode. The procedures below separate save corruption, input hardware, installation faults and system-wide performance issues.

Confirm which Toy Story 3 release you installed
Two different listings can appear under the Toy Story 3 name. Treat them as separate products when you diagnose a problem.

A troubleshooting step that applies to the converted release may not explain a feature difference in the Complete Edition. Before deleting anything, highlight the game on the PS5 home screen, press the Options button and note the exact title, edition and update status.

Use a low-risk order before touching data
Work from the least destructive remedy to the most disruptive. A restart or update is reversible; deleting a save or resetting the console is not. Keep the following priorities in view:
- Protect progress first: verify a console or cloud copy before downloading, deleting or reinstalling.
- Match the scope: a controller-only symptom needs a different test from a save that fails at one checkpoint or a problem affecting several games.
- Prefer reversible actions: restart, update, restore licenses, clear cache and rebuild the database before a reinstall or reset.
- Use internal storage for testing: a game on USB extended storage can be moved to the PS5’s internal storage to rule out an installation or drive-path problem.
- Use known-good hardware: diagnose with an official DualSense or DUALSHOCK 4 before blaming the game.
Fix a Toy Story 3 save that will not load or will not save
1. Treat the save as PS4 data in PS5 settings
The converted Toy Story 3 release is managed as PS4 saved data even when you launch it on PS5. Open Settings > Saved Data and Game/App Settings > Saved Data (PS4). Looking in the PS5 saved-data section alone can make a valid Toy Story 3 file appear to be missing.
Check whether the console lists Toy Story 3 and record the dates of every local file before changing anything. If you have more than one edition installed, verify which product name is attached to the save; do not assume that a Complete Edition save and a converted-release save are interchangeable.

If several games show cloud or synchronization errors, retry the operation and toggle Enable Auto-Sync off and back on in the saved-data settings. Persistent multi-game synchronization errors should be handled through PlayStation Support rather than by repeatedly deleting local data.
Do not accept a prompt that replaces a newer local file with an older cloud file until you have compared dates. A sync operation can be correct for the cloud but wrong for the progress you currently want.
3. Make a known-good backup
With PlayStation Plus, upload the current console save to cloud storage before experimenting. PlayStation Plus cloud storage is a subscription feature. A PS4 save uploaded to the cloud does not automatically become a local PS5 file: PlayStation’s cloud-storage instructions require you to manually download it to PS5 console storage.

- Open Settings > Saved Data and Game/App Settings > Saved Data (PS4).
- Choose the console-storage or cloud-storage option shown for PS4 saves.
- Upload the current local Toy Story 3 file if it is still readable.
- Check the cloud copy’s date before downloading any replacement.
- Download the intended cloud file to console storage only after confirming that it is the version you want to restore.
If you do not have a cloud subscription, preserve the local file and avoid destructive prompts while you test. The essential rule is the same: never delete the only copy while diagnosing corruption.
4. Run the clean new-game test
PlayStation’s crash guidance recommends starting the game without an existing save. Start a new game and play far enough to reproduce the loading, saving or crash symptom.
- New game works, old save fails: the existing save may be corrupted. Keep the original backed up and use the newest verified cloud or console copy. There is no published Toy Story 3-specific repair utility in the available guidance.
- New game also fails: the cause is more likely an incomplete installation, outdated game or system software, storage location, controller input or a broader PS5 issue.
- Both work but one slot fails: treat that slot as suspect and stop saving over other known-good slots until you have a verified backup.
This test distinguishes a damaged save from a game-wide launch or performance fault without sacrificing the original file.
5. Reinstall only after the backup is verified
If launch or data errors continue after the clean test, delete and redownload the game while preserving saved data. Reinstalling can replace damaged game files, but it does not repair a corrupted save. Confirm that the save backup exists and has the expected date before deleting the application.
After reinstalling, install the latest game update, launch without importing an old save, and run the clean new-game test again. Only then restore the backed-up save. If the fresh installation works but the old file still fails, the evidence points to that save rather than the download.

Know which controllers PS5 supports for PS4 games
PlayStation states that DualSense, DUALSHOCK 4 and officially licensed third-party gamepads work with supported PS4 games on PS5. It also warns that not every third-party controller is compatible. For a reliable diagnosis, use an official DualSense or DUALSHOCK 4 first; an unverified pad can create a false game bug.

Apply the controller checks in this order
- Restart the game: close Toy Story 3 completely, relaunch it and test the affected buttons. If the game offers controller configuration, open it, restore defaults and test again.
- Update the PS5: install any pending system-software update. The converted release may require current system software.
- Update the controller: open Settings > Accessories > Controllers and install the available DualSense device-software update.
- Update Toy Story 3: on the home screen, highlight the game, press Options and select Check for Update.
- Pair over USB: connect the controller with a data-capable USB cable and press the PS button. A charge-only cable may power the pad without carrying the data needed for pairing.
- Reset the controller: use the reset procedure specified for the controller model, then reconnect it by USB and press PS.
- Cross-test: test a known-good official DualSense. If the second controller works, inspect or replace the first; if neither works only in Toy Story 3, continue with the game and system steps.
- Use Safe Mode last: consider Rebuild Database only after the controller, cable and update checks have failed.
A USB cable cannot repair damaged hardware. It is useful for pairing and diagnosis, not a guarantee that an unresponsive controller will recover.
Separate an input problem from a game problem
If the PS5 home screen and another supported game respond normally, but Toy Story 3 ignores input, the issue is likely the game’s configuration, compatibility layer or installation. If the controller fails throughout the PS5 interface, do not keep reinstalling Toy Story 3; troubleshoot the controller, cable or console first. A DUALSHOCK 4 can help identify whether the fault is specific to DualSense features, although the game may not expose every newer feature.

Start with installation and update checks
Confirm that Toy Story 3 has finished installing and that its update is complete. A partially installed game can launch to a menu and still fail when it reaches content that has not finished downloading. Restart the PS5 after updates, then test the game before changing system settings.
For a game that freezes or crashes at a repeatable point, perform the clean new-game test described above. If a new game is stable but the existing save crashes, stop treating the symptom as a frame-rate problem and work on save recovery. If every new game freezes, continue with installation, storage and system checks.
Use the PlayStation launch sequence
- Restart the PS5 and launch Toy Story 3 again.
- Restore licenses from the PS5 account settings if the title is unavailable, locked or reporting ownership data errors.
- If the game is installed on USB extended storage, move it to internal PS5 storage and retest.
- Delete and redownload the game after confirming the saved-data backup.
- Keep PS5 system software and the game current before escalating.
Moving from USB to internal storage is a diagnostic step: it changes the storage path without changing the save. Do not format the extended drive as part of this test.
Understand what the conversion can and cannot explain
The March 2025 release is not a native new PS5 build; the store describes it as a PSP conversion with added features. Sony explicitly warns that conversion differences may make the game play differently and that some features may not function properly. That warning can explain an odd presentation, missing legacy behavior or a feature that does not respond exactly as it did on PSP, but it does not prove that every crash or failed save is expected. A repeatable freeze, data error or complete loss of input still warrants the update, clean-save and installation checks.

Use Safe Mode carefully
Clear System Software Cache
Safe Mode includes Clear System Software Cache for system-feature problems and performance drops. Use it only after ordinary restarts and updates, and follow the on-screen Safe Mode instructions for connecting the controller by USB. Clearing cache is intended to remove temporary system data; it is not a save-repair tool.

Rebuild Database scans the console’s content information and recreates the database. It is a later step for persistent menu, storage-indexing or performance symptoms, not the first response to one bad Toy Story 3 slot. Keep the console powered during the process and do not interrupt it.
Do not confuse Reset PS5 with a repair step
Reset PS5 deletes all user data. It is an endpoint action only after verified backups, troubleshooting and support guidance. A reset can remove the game, saves, screenshots, accounts and settings; it should never be used to solve an unverified Toy Story 3 save problem.

When to stop troubleshooting and contact support
Escalate when the same error affects multiple games, synchronization fails after retrying and toggling Auto-Sync, an official controller fails across the PS5 interface, or a fresh internal-storage installation crashes even in a new game. Record the Toy Story 3 edition, PS5 system-software version, game update status, storage location, save date and the exact screen or activity that fails. That information prevents support from repeating tests you have already completed.
Do not report an expected conversion difference as a confirmed defect, and do not infer a crash rate from isolated symptoms. No Toy Story 3-specific PS5 benchmark, crash-rate statistic or exhaustive official bug count has been published in the available documentation. The reliable conclusion is procedural: isolate the save, controller, installation and system layers, and preserve progress before any destructive action.
What a successful recovery looks like
A save recovery is complete when Toy Story 3 appears under Saved Data (PS4), the restored file has the intended date, and the game loads it after a clean new-game test. A controller recovery is complete when an updated official pad responds both in the PS5 interface and in Toy Story 3. A performance recovery is complete when the game launches from internal storage, is fully updated and remains stable with a new game before you reintroduce the backed-up save.
That order matters because each result narrows the cause. It also prevents the most expensive mistake: deleting the only working Toy Story 3 progress while trying to fix a problem that was actually a controller, installation or compatibility-layer fault.
