VALORANT VAL 51 Fix: “There Was An Error Connecting To The Platform”

If VALORANT shows VAL 51 with “There Was An Error Connecting To The Platform,” first check Riot’s service notices, then restart VALORANT and the Riot Client. The code is not a reliable diagnosis right now: Riot’s error-code page, dated June 2, 2026, says a recent issue is causing errors to display incorrectly. It lists VAL 51 as a party-creation problem, but that may not explain the message on your screen.

What VAL 51 means—and why the code may mislead

Riot’s Error Codes and Solutions in VALORANT lists VAL 51 as “Problem creating a party.” However, the page is dated June 2, 2026, and warns: “A recent issue is causing VALORANT errors to display incorrectly.” Treat the party-creation entry as Riot’s published mapping, not a confirmed explanation for every VAL 51 message.

That uncertainty makes it sensible to check Riot’s services before changing your PC or router settings. If services appear available, move from simple client and connection checks to optional network diagnostics.

Try these fixes in order

Check Riot notices. Look at the VALORANT Service Status page and current notices on Riot’s support site or VALORANT community channels. The status page is the place to check for an incident; the information here does not establish whether one is active now.
Restart VALORANT and the Riot Client. Close the game and client, then reopen the Riot Client and launch VALORANT. Riot recommends restarting the client for VAL 51’s listed party-system issue. Because the code table is flagged as out of date, this is a reasonable first step, not a guaranteed fix.
Check your connection. Confirm Wi-Fi is enabled and that you are connected to the intended network with the correct credentials. If you use Ethernet, check that the cable is seated at both ends. If Wi-Fi seems unstable, temporarily test a wired connection if one is available; it is a diagnostic, not a requirement or a fix for a Riot-side issue. If you use a VPN or proxy, try without it only if doing so is safe and appropriate for your network.
Run Windows’ network troubleshooter. Riot’s Troubleshooting Your Network Connection guide points to Settings > Network & Internet > Status, then the Network troubleshooter under Advanced network settings. Windows labels and paths can vary by version, so use the equivalent options in your current Windows interface if needed.
Escalate to advanced network checks only if necessary. Riot’s guide covers DNS settings, IPv6, IP renewal, DNS flushing, firewall permissions, and router port forwarding. These are optional diagnostics, not established VAL 51-specific fixes. Follow Riot’s current instructions carefully and change one setting at a time so you can identify what helped—or restore it if connectivity gets worse.
Contact Riot Support if the error remains. Submit a ticket through Riot VALORANT Support. Include the exact error text and code, when it appears, your region, whether other Riot services work, and which troubleshooting steps you tried.

Advanced network checks: use Riot’s guide carefully

DNS options

Riot’s guide describes testing public DNS, including Google’s 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4, or Cloudflare’s 1.1.1.1 and 1.0.0.1. These are alternatives named by Riot, not a ranking: the guide does not establish that one is faster or better for VAL 51. Riot also warns that some internet service providers block third-party DNS. If changing DNS stops your internet access, restore your original DNS settings.

Other settings

For instructions on IPv6, renewing your IP address, flushing DNS, checking firewall permissions, and router port forwarding, use Riot’s network guide rather than changing several settings at once. The available guidance does not show that any one of these procedures is a confirmed fix for this error code.

When to send Riot Support a ticket

If the error continues after checking notices, restarting the client, and checking your local connection, use Riot Support’s ticket option. A clear report helps support understand whether the failure is limited to party creation, affects other Riot services, or follows a local network change. Include the exact message and code, your region, when the problem occurs, other services you have checked, and the steps you have already tried.
