First find out whether the audio is already out of sync in vMix or whether the mismatch appears only on YouTube. If it is wrong in vMix’s local output or recording, measure the offset and adjust the affected audio input’s delay. If local output is in sync, leave that setting alone and investigate encoder load, stream-health errors, the archive, and the upload connection.
1. Find where the sync problem begins
Compare vMix’s local program output or recording with the YouTube playback. Use a test with visible movement paired to sound, such as a hand clap, and check the stream in YouTube Live Control Room. YouTube recommends testing with audio and movement representative of the real stream. YouTube encoder settings
- Both local output and YouTube are out of sync: Start with the production and input timing in vMix.
- Local output is in sync, but YouTube is not: Check the encoder, stream health, archive, and delivery path before changing an input delay.
- The mismatch changes over time: Treat it as possible drift or an intermittent production/delivery issue, not necessarily a fixed offset. Compare recordings or observations from the start and later parts of the stream.
Note whether the audio is early or late, whether the offset stays constant, and whether the video and audio enter vMix through one input or separate inputs. These details help identify which part of the signal path to examine.
2. Correct an audio timing problem inside vMix
When the local output is wrong, adjust the relevant audio input—not every audio source by default. vMix notes that separately added camera and audio inputs can arrive at different times, and that audio may arrive sooner than video. - In vMix, open Audio Mixer.
- Click the settings for the audio input that is out of sync.
- Open General and locate Delay, measured in milliseconds.
- Use a repeatable visual cue with a clear sound, such as a clap. If the sound is heard before the visible event, increase the audio delay in a small increment.
- Check the local output again after each change. Keep adjusting in small steps until the sound and picture align, then verify with another cue.
There is no universal delay value: the correct amount depends on the equipment and signal path. Measure your own system rather than copying an arbitrary number. If the audio is late rather than early, do not add more delay; reassess which input or path is arriving late and what adjustment it needs.
When camera video and audio use separate inputs
Check that the selected audio input is actually paired with the corresponding picture. Correcting one input can misalign another source, so test each relevant camera/audio combination and confirm the program mix, not just a single isolated input.
When the local recording is good but YouTube is not
Do not use the input delay to compensate for a problem that begins after vMix’s local output. That can make the production output wrong while leaving the delivery issue unresolved.

3. If only YouTube playback is wrong, inspect delivery evidence
YouTube’s troubleshooting guidance recommends checking the stream directly in the encoder, reviewing dashboard errors and encoder CPU load, examining local archive files, and testing outbound connection strength. If the encoder output looks and sounds healthy, YouTube identifies the outbound internet connection as a possible source. YouTube: Troubleshoot your YouTube live stream

- In YouTube Live Control Room, inspect stream-health messages and their timestamps. Compare those times with when the problem starts or worsens. YouTube provides stream metrics for this purpose. YouTube: See your live stream’s metrics
- Check vMix’s CPU load and the encoder’s output for errors or instability around the same time.
- Inspect a local recording or archive from the affected period, if available. Compare the same visual/audio event locally and on YouTube.
- Test outbound upload from the actual stream location, including under the conditions when the problem occurs. Check whether other users or devices share the connection.
On a 24/7 broadcast, note the time of each change, error, or sync check. Correlating local evidence with YouTube’s timestamps is more useful than changing several settings at once.
4. Check upload capacity and buffering
YouTube recommends keeping 20% upload-bandwidth headroom above the total streaming bitrate and warns that a shared network can reduce bandwidth available to the stream. Measure upload at the location where vMix runs, and repeat while the connection is under its usual load. The 20% figure is YouTube’s recommendation, not a measurement of any particular Indian ISP or connection. YouTube: Streaming tips

vMix’s Network Buffer is the maximum time vMix can buffer; server and player buffers can add further latency. vMix says a larger network buffer may help when network speed is unreliable. Increasing it can also increase delay, however, and it is not a correction for audio/video timing at an input. Keep these controls distinct: an input’s Delay adjusts input timing, while network buffering and stream delay concern buffering and latency. vMix Help 27: Streaming Quality
5. Verify the encoder settings
Compare the settings in vMix with YouTube’s current encoder recommendations and the stream-health messages shown for your broadcast. YouTube’s encoder guidance lists RTMP/RTMPS video codecs and audio codec options, recommends constant bitrate (CBR), and specifies these audio and keyframe recommendations: YouTube: Choose live encoder settings, bitrates, and resolutions

- Keyframe interval: 2 seconds recommended; do not exceed 4 seconds.
- Stereo audio sample rate: 44.1 kHz recommended.
- Stereo audio bitrate: 128 kbps recommended.
- Audio codec in vMix: vMix Help 27 says AAC is the audio option when FFMPEG is selected.
These settings are worth checking when diagnosing encoder or delivery trouble, but they are not a substitute for locating where the sync error begins. Change settings deliberately and recheck the local output and YouTube health rather than making several changes together.

6. Keep evidence for a 24/7 stream
YouTube recommends continuous monitoring of audio/video quality and stream health. For a long-running broadcast, keep a local recording or archive when practical, confirm that it is being written, and inspect the section covering the reported problem. YouTube’s encoder setup guidance says encoder streams under 12 hours are automatically archived; that does not promise a single complete archive for a 24-hour stream. The cited guidance does not identify India as a specific cause of sync drift. Treat location as a reason to measure the connection at the actual streaming site and check for shared bandwidth—not as evidence that geography itself is the fault.
