VRChat crashes on PC for different reasons, so the error and the moment it happens matter. Start with the safe checks below, then follow the branch that matches what you see: an Easy Anti-Cheat error, “VirtualAlloc Remapping Failed,” a crash under heavy load, or a connection problem. If none fits, collect the session log and send it privately to VRChat Support.
Start with these safe checks
- Note when it fails. Record whether VRChat closes before the menu, after joining a world, after a particular action, or after freezing. Write down any error text and whether an error window appeared. If it happens only in one world or with one avatar, note that as a clue, not proof of the cause.
- Clear VRChat’s local data if the client opens. In VRChat, open Settings > Debug and clear Local Profile Data and Content Cache. Restart the client and test again. This may reset local profile data, so use it as a troubleshooting step rather than a routine setting.
- Verify the Steam installation. In Steam, open Library, right-click VRChat, choose Properties > Installed Files > Verify integrity of game files, and let Steam finish checking before launching again.
- Update Windows and your graphics driver. Restart the PC after updates, then try VRChat again.
- Check for software conflicts. Review antivirus and firewall alerts for VRChat. If you briefly disable a security feature to test whether it is blocking the game, do so only long enough to test, then restore protection; prefer adding the VRChat executable as an allowed app when appropriate. Close unnecessary overlay, audio, or other background utilities during diagnosis.
VRChat notes that user-generated worlds and avatars can be unoptimized and may cause crashes or performance issues. A crash in one place does not, by itself, establish whether the content, client, driver, or another part of the PC is responsible. The steps above follow VRChat’s crash and launch troubleshooting guidance.
Choose the branch that matches the symptom
Easy Anti-Cheat reports an error
Use this path when the launch failure specifically mentions Easy Anti-Cheat (EAC). Check whether security software or a firewall is blocking VRChat or EAC, then follow VRChat’s EAC troubleshooting instructions to repair or reinstall EAC from the game files. The guide also recommends restarting and checking Windows and graphics-driver updates. If you overclock the PC, or suspect overheating or broader system instability, return settings to a stable configuration and investigate that separately. An EAC error is a reason to follow this branch, not a general explanation for every crash.
“VirtualAlloc Remapping Failed” appears
For this specific message, VRChat recommends having 20–30 GB free on the Windows C: drive and ensuring Windows automatically manages paging-file size. The free-space figure is targeted guidance for this error, not a universal free-space requirement for all VRChat crashes. Avoid guessing a custom paging-file size; follow the official VirtualAlloc instructions.

It stutters or loses frames before crashing
If the failure follows frame drops, long pauses, or a particularly demanding world or avatar, reduce load to see whether that changes the symptom. VRChat’s crash guidance and performance options support these diagnostic checks:
- Reduce how many avatars are displayed and lower the avatar download-size limit.
- Temporarily lower graphics quality and antialiasing.
- Close resource-heavy applications and update Windows and the graphics driver.
- If you use SteamVR, check its video settings, including render resolution and refresh rate.
These changes can help isolate load-related symptoms; they are not a guaranteed fix for a crash. If lowering load changes where or when the crash occurs, include that observation when contacting support.

The client stays open but cannot connect or join
If VRChat remains running but cannot connect, load content, or join worlds, troubleshoot connectivity rather than treating it as an application crash. Check VRChat service status, test the connection, restart the modem or router, and try Ethernet if available. Check whether a firewall, antivirus product, or traffic-shaping utility is interfering. VRChat’s troubleshooting guidance covers these connection checks.

| Memory | 4 GB RAM |
| Graphics | NVIDIA GTX 970 / AMD Radeon R9 290 equivalent or greater |

| Internet | Broadband connection; 25+ megabit preferred |
| Storage | 21.5 GB; VRChat says about 1.5 GB is for the application, with the remainder for content cache |
Meeting these published requirements does not identify the cause of a particular crash. User-generated content and the conditions of a specific session can still affect performance.
Find the log and contact VRChat Support
If the crash continues, send useful details through the official VRChat support form, rather than posting diagnostic files publicly. On Windows, press Windows+R, enter %AppData%..LocalLowVRChatVRChat, and press Enter to open the folder containing the output logs. Each output log corresponds to a launch session. VRChat says output logs are retained for 24 hours and may include your username, hardware details, or IP address, so handle them as private information.
- Describe what you were doing immediately before the failure and where it happened.
- Include the exact error text, if any, and say whether the client froze, closed by itself, or showed a Unity error window.
- Attach the relevant output log through the official form. Include a crash dump only if support requests it; dumps can be large.
- Do not send the
VRChat_Datafolder, and do not publish logs or dumps in a public forum.
VRChat’s crash guidance and output-log instructions explain what to provide. A log gives support evidence to investigate; it does not guarantee a diagnosis or fix.
