- Open Windows Terminal (Admin) or Command Prompt (Run as administrator).
- Stop the services that may have files open by entering these commands one at a time:
net stop wuauserv
net stop bits
net stop cryptsvc- Open File Explorer and enter

- Confirm that the device is running Windows 10 and that the error occurs on that KB rather than on a Defender security-intelligence update.
Handle the recovery partition cautiously
Resizing a recovery partition changes the disk layout and can affect access to Windows Recovery Environment if done incorrectly. Back up personal files first. Use Microsoft’s current KB5034441 documentation for the supported partition procedure, or have qualified IT help perform it if Disk Management and recovery partitions are unfamiliar. Do not delete the recovery partition to force the update through.

6. Repair a Defender security-intelligence update failure
When Windows Security identifies the failed item as a Defender definition or security-intelligence update, use the Defender workflow rather than modifying partitions.
