Once the scheduler is healthy, verify the active transport under MailPoet > Settings > Advanced > Send all site’s emails with…, then check authentication, sender identity, logs, queue state, and the specific email type. The sequence below covers newsletters, Post Notifications, password resets, WooCommerce messages, and MailPoet cron errors without guessing at the cause.

What “MailPoet is not sending” can mean
Several different failures look identical from an inbox. MailPoet may be unable to start its background task, unable to connect to its sending service, holding a paused or retrying queue, rejecting a sender domain, or successfully handing off a message that is later filtered by the recipient’s provider. A Post Notification can also remain inactive, miss its trigger, target the wrong list, or contain a damaged template.
Separate the problem into two paths:
- Campaign and Post Notification delivery: MailPoet builds and schedules the message, then a scheduler processes the queue.
- Transactional delivery: WordPress password resets, WooCommerce notices, and other site-generated messages use the sending method selected for site email. Their logging and retry behavior depends on that method.
Do not diagnose both paths with one test. First establish that MailPoet’s scheduler runs, then test the exact kind of message that is failing.

1. Read System Status before changing anything
Open MailPoet > Help > System Status. This page is the central diagnostic checkpoint because it exposes the scheduler, cron, Action Scheduler, queue, Sending Service connection, and database consistency in one place.
Task Scheduler Connection
A status such as Connection unsuccessful means MailPoet cannot process scheduled work. Sending will not work until the endpoint problem is fixed. Open the cron URL shown on the status page in a browser or an HTTP tool. The expected response is the single word pong.

- Timeout: investigate server response time, proxy rules, firewall limits, or cURL configuration.
A successful WordPress front end does not prove that this background endpoint works. MailPoet needs the endpoint to run independently of a visitor loading a page.
Cron, Action Scheduler, and queue rows
Review Cron Status, Action Scheduler Status, and Sending Queue together. A healthy connection with a stopped queue points to scheduled-task execution or a paused job; a healthy scheduler with no queued work may simply mean the message was never scheduled or no recipient qualified.
Record the visible retry count, last-seen error, and queue state before making changes. Those details identify whether MailPoet is repeatedly retrying a transport failure, waiting behind a pause, or failing before a message enters the queue.
Database consistency and Sending Service connection
If System Status reports a database-consistency problem, resolve that warning before interpreting queue results. If the MailPoet Sending Service connection is invalid, a newsletter cannot be handed off even when cron is working.

When the Task Scheduler Connection is unsuccessful, fix the execution path before testing deliverability. MailPoet provides a scheduler setting under MailPoet > Settings > Advanced > Newsletter Task Scheduler.

Use WordPress built-in cron first
- Open MailPoet > Settings > Advanced.
- Find Newsletter Task Scheduler.
- Select WordPress built-in cron (recommended).
- Save the setting.
- Return to MailPoet > Help > System Status and retest the Task Scheduler Connection.
Verify that mailpoet/cron/daemon-trigger is scheduled and runs without errors. A scheduled action that exists but repeatedly fails still leaves the queue stuck.
When server-side cron is involved
If server-side cron is enabled and unreliable, switch back to the default Action Scheduler option or correct the server cron rather than leaving two unreliable paths competing. Ask the host to confirm that the MailPoet task is allowed to execute and that loopback requests are not blocked.
Common endpoint and transport blockers
The following errors usually require a hosting, network, or security configuration change rather than an edit to the email:

- cURL timeout, error 28: the request did not complete within the configured time. Ask the host to raise cURL timeouts and check slow or overloaded services.
- cURL forbidden: a firewall, web-application rule, or security layer is denying the request. Have the host whitelist the blocked URL or MailPoet bridge where appropriate.
- SSL connect error, error 35: verify the server’s cURL, SSL library, certificates, and PHP versions with the host.
- Blocked loopback requests: permit the site to call its own cron endpoint. Security plugins and server firewalls can block this even when public pages load normally.
- Proxy restrictions: ensure the proxy permits the required outbound and loopback traffic.
After each infrastructure change, open the displayed cron URL again and require the literal pong response. Do not treat a redirect to the homepage as success.
3. Confirm which sending method MailPoet is using
Open MailPoet > Settings > Advanced > Send all site’s emails with…. The available paths are MailPoet’s Sending Service, the host, SMTP, Amazon SES, and SendGrid. The selected path determines authentication, logging, and what happens when a provider is unavailable.

The important distinction is whether the message travels through WordPress wp_mail or directly through MailPoet or a third-party provider. A logger that watches wp_mail cannot see mail sent directly through MailPoet’s Sending Service, SMTP, Amazon SES, or SendGrid.
4. Reconnect and authenticate the MailPoet Sending Service
If the selected method is MailPoet’s Sending Service, revalidate the MailPoet key and confirm that the connected plan is active. An expired, revoked, or mismatched key can leave the scheduler healthy while every handoff fails.

Authenticate the sending domain
MailPoet requires authenticated domains for Sending Service plans. The requirement reflects sender rules introduced by major providers, including Google, Yahoo, Hotmail, and Outlook, for 2024. Complete the domain-authentication process shown in your MailPoet account, then wait for the status to be recognized before rerunning a test.
Use a From address on the authenticated domain. Avoid using a consumer address such as Gmail, Yahoo, or Hotmail as the From identity for a site’s bulk mail. Also avoid role-based addresses when possible, keep From and Reply-To aligned with the way you want replies handled, and ensure the domain in the visible sender matches the authenticated domain.
5. Diagnose a queue stuck at 0% or marked Paused
Open the affected email’s history and inspect the queue rather than repeatedly pressing send. A task stuck at 0 / X generally indicates a Sending Service or scheduler problem: no recipient has been processed because the worker cannot begin.
Paused status
Paused means sending was paused manually or after MailPoet detected a problem. Resume only after reading the last-seen error. Resuming a queue that still has a failed scheduler or invalid connection simply recreates the same failure.
Retry counts and last-seen errors
A rising retry count means MailPoet is attempting the same job again. Set MailPoet logging to Errors only for a focused check or Everything for a complete trace, rerun a targeted test, and read the full error message. Capture the exact wording, including cURL or SSL codes, before changing settings.
Empty or unexpectedly small queues
If the queue is empty, check whether the email is active, whether the trigger occurred, and whether any subscribed recipient belongs to the selected list. A message cannot be delivered to subscribers who were never added to its target list.
6. Fix Post Notifications that never run
For a post-triggered email, go to MailPoet > Emails > Post Notifications > View history. The status and history usually identify which layer failed.

“Stuck at 0 / X”
This normally points to a Sending Service or scheduler issue. Follow the System Status and cron checks first. Do not rebuild the template until the worker can process a simple test.
“Paused”
Confirm whether a user paused the email or MailPoet paused it after detecting an error. Read the logged error, correct the underlying issue, and then resume.
“Rendering problem”
A rendering problem indicates a corrupted or unsupported template. Recreate the email rather than repeatedly resending a damaged copy. During recreation, verify the required content blocks and the trigger settings.
Trigger, status, block, and list checks
- Confirm the Post Notification is active, not a draft or disabled email.
- Confirm that the selected post category, tag, or other trigger condition actually matches the post that should start the notification.
- Include the Automatic Latest Content block when the notification requires it.
- Target the list that contains the intended recipients.
- Confirm recipients are subscribed and were added to that list before the trigger occurred.
If all settings are correct but the history continues to show a rendering error, create a new notification from a clean template and test it with one subscribed address.

Transactional messages need a targeted test. Use a password-reset request or a controlled WooCommerce event that should generate the missing message, then inspect the path selected under Send all site’s emails with….
When the site uses the WordPress host method
Because this path uses wp_mail, a WordPress mail logger can show whether WordPress attempted to create the message. A log entry proves an attempt was made; it does not prove that the recipient accepted or displayed the message.
When the site uses MailPoet, SMTP, Amazon SES, or SendGrid
A wp_mail-only logger will not capture direct traffic through these methods. Enable MailPoet’s logging under MailPoet > Settings > Advanced > Logging, choose Errors only or Everything, trigger one controlled transactional message, and inspect the complete error.

MailPoet states that transactional email is not logged by default. Turn logging back down after diagnosis if you do not need a persistent record of message contents or events.
Provider outage and retry expectations
Third-party transactional sending can lose a message when the provider is unavailable because those messages are not queued for a later retry. MailPoet’s own Sending Service can fall back to the host for transactional email. This difference matters for password resets and order notices: a successful page action does not guarantee that a failed provider handoff will be retried later.
8. Separate sending from inbox placement
If MailPoet reports that a message was sent and the recipient still sees nothing, the problem may be delivery or filtering rather than WordPress execution.
- Use a From address on the authenticated site domain instead of a consumer mailbox.
- Avoid role-based senders when a monitored individual or department address is more appropriate.
- Keep From and Reply-To consistent and intentional.
- Review the message for content patterns or links that may be treated as suspicious.
- Check the recipient’s spam, quarantine, promotions, and security-filter areas.
- Test with more than one recipient domain to distinguish a site-wide failure from provider-specific filtering.
Do not change several sender and transport settings at once. Make one change, send one controlled test, and record whether the message entered the queue, left the site, and reached the recipient.
9. A controlled end-to-end test
Use this sequence after repairing cron or changing a sending method:
- In MailPoet > Help > System Status, confirm the Task Scheduler Connection and cron endpoint return
pong. - Confirm Cron Status, Action Scheduler Status, and Sending Queue show no blocking error.
- Verify the selected method under MailPoet > Settings > Advanced > Send all site’s emails with….
- If using the Sending Service, confirm the key, active plan, and authenticated sending domain.
- Set logging to Errors only or Everything.
- Send one targeted transactional test, such as a password-reset request, if transactional mail is failing.
- Send a small test newsletter or Post Notification to a subscribed test address if campaign mail is failing.
- Check the queue, retry count, and last-seen error immediately after the test.
- Check the recipient’s inbox and filtering folders only after the log shows a successful handoff.
- Restore the normal logging level when troubleshooting is complete.
10. Match the symptom to the fix

11. Prevention checklist
- Keep the MailPoet key and connected plan current.
- Use WordPress built-in cron unless a reliable server-side cron is deliberately configured.
- Periodically verify that
mailpoet/cron/daemon-triggerruns without errors. - Keep cURL, PHP, SSL certificates, and security rules compatible with loopback and outbound requests.
- Authenticate the sending domain before relying on the Sending Service.
- Use a domain-specific From address and a deliberate Reply-To address.
- Know which logger observes the selected transport.
- Review Post Notification history after changing triggers, lists, or templates.
- Keep a controlled test address subscribed to the lists used for notifications.
- After a provider or firewall change, run one transactional and one campaign test rather than assuming both paths behave identically.
Final checklist before contacting hosting or MailPoet support
Collect the System Status results, the exact cron response, the selected sending method, the active-plan and domain-authentication state, the queue status, retry count, and complete logged error. Include whether the failure affects campaigns, Post Notifications, transactional messages, or all three. This evidence lets support distinguish a blocked scheduler from a provider handoff or inbox-placement problem without asking you to repeat unrelated tests.
