Use a live golf leaderboard for scores
The official tournament or tour leaderboard is usually the fastest way to follow play without a video feed. The PGA TOUR app listing describes real-time leaderboards, player scorecards, and live stats. Apple Sports also offers live scores for official PGA TOUR and LPGA Tour events, including majors, with hole-by-hole results and individual scorecards, according to Apple’s February 4, 2026 announcement.
Start with the event’s official site or app when you need to confirm that a particular tournament is covered. A general sports app can be convenient, but the official leaderboard is the safer first check for event-specific scoring.
Follow one golfer with shot-level detail
If you care most about a particular player, use their scorecard and any available shot-tracking tools rather than refreshing the overall standings. The PGA TOUR app describes shot trails and play-by-play. The Open’s official app page describes ShotView, which provides shot-by-shot data and statistics; the PGA Championship app guide describes 3D shot tracking for the field. These features are tournament-specific, not standard across golf apps.

For a quick comparison, check whether the event offers only scores, hole-by-hole results, or shot-level information. More detail can make it easier to understand how a player reached a score, but it may require the event’s own app or site.
Get golf score updates without opening the app
Turn on notifications for the player or tour you want to follow if you want updates during the day. The PGA TOUR app describes push notifications for followed tours and players, along with lock-screen Live Activities. The Open’s FAQ says its Championship notifications can include scoring, leaders, and radio or video schedules. Apple Sports also describes Live Activities on iPhone and Apple Watch.

- Choose the event and player: Open the official app or sports app and find the tournament or golfer you want to follow.
- Enable alerts: Allow notifications for the app, then select the player or tour if the app offers follow controls.
- Check lock-screen support: Start or enable a Live Activity where available. Device, operating-system, app, and event support can affect whether it appears.
Listen to live golf radio or audio
For commentary without watching, check the tournament’s official site or app for radio and audio listings. Availability is event-specific. The Open’s 2026 guide, published July 13, said The Open Radio would be available globally through the website, app, and R&A TV, as well as on talkSPORT 2 in the UK and SiriusXM across North America. The PGA Championship’s 2026 spectator guide said its app carried SiriusXM’s PGA Championship Radio without requiring a subscription or authentication. Those examples do not guarantee that another tournament will offer the same stream or access terms.

Live video and app features can vary by location and platform. The Open’s official FAQ says the live video streams shown in its app may differ by country according to local TV coverage and recommends enabling Location Services to see the correct streams. The same FAQ says Android users are directed to a website shortcut, while the iOS app is built for the App Store.
