To follow NASCAR’s 2026 Cup Series, use the event page for a race’s results and NASCAR’s Cup standings page for season points and Chase positions. Those pages answer different questions, and the standings are a changing snapshot: when checked on October 7, 2026, NASCAR’s table was current through Las Vegas on October 4, Race 31 of 36.
Where to check NASCAR race results and season standings
Race results: what happened in one event
Open the relevant event page on NASCAR’s race results site to see the winner and each driver’s finishing position. A 2026 World Wide Technology Raceway results page also shows starting position, final status, laps completed, laps led, best lap and points. These describe that race; they are not the season standings.
Standings: where drivers sit across the season
Use NASCAR’s Cup Series standings for the season picture. The page provides driver, owner and manufacturer tables. Driver fields include position, points, stage points, points behind, starts, wins, top fives, top tens, DNFs and laps led; it also labels the current Chase qualifiers.
Before quoting a standings position, check the page’s last-event date or race number. NASCAR’s table changes as results are posted, so a position without an as-of date can quickly become stale.

How NASCAR Cup points work in 2026
Race finish points
In the 2026 Cup Series, the winner earns 55 points. Second place earns 35, third 34, fourth 33, and each subsequent finishing position earns one point less than the position above it.
Stage points
Stage 1 and Stage 2 each award points to the top 10 finishers: 10 for first, then 9 through 1 for tenth. When comparing drivers, keep stage points separate from race finish and the season total. Stage points contribute to the broader points picture; they are not a substitute for a driver’s final finishing position.

Why older points guides can mislead
Some older NASCAR explainers describe a 40-point race win and playoff bonus points or several postseason resets. Those are historical rules, not the 2026 Cup system. NASCAR’s 2026 Chase explainer and January 12, 2026 format announcement describe the current season’s format.
How the 2026 NASCAR Cup Chase standings work
Who qualifies
The Cup regular season runs for 26 races. After it ends, the top 16 drivers in points advance to the 10-race Chase. Qualification is based on points: a race win does not automatically put a driver in the Chase.

For tracking the cutoff, compare a driver’s points position with the 16th-place boundary on the official standings page. Wins and stage points are useful context, but they do not override the points-based qualification rule.
Reseeding and championship
NASCAR reseeds the field once, after the regular season. The 2026 Chase seed values are 2,100 points for first, 2,075 for second, 2,065 for third, then five-point steps down through 2,000 for 16th. That gives the regular-season points leader a 25-point lead over second at the start of the Chase.

- Points and points behind: overall standing and distance from the leader.
- Stage points: points earned in the first two stages.
- Wins, top fives and top tens: finishing-result counts across the season.
- DNFs: races not finished.
- Laps led: a measure of how often the driver has led, alongside—not in place of—finishing results and points.
These are descriptive statistics, not predictions. A driver’s win count alone does not establish Chase qualification in 2026; the points position determines whether the driver is among the top 16.
