To forward a live stream to another platform, either send a separate output from your streaming software to each destination, or send one feed to a cloud relay that distributes it for you. Direct outputs give you more local control but use more upload bandwidth and encoding capacity; a relay simplifies distribution and reduces the load on your computer. Set up and test every destination before you go live.

Choose how to forward the stream

Method How it works Best suited to Main trade-off
Direct outputs from your encoder Your streaming software or hardware sends an output to each platform. Creators who want direct control and have enough upload capacity and encoding resources. Each destination adds to the total upload target; your computer or encoder must handle the workload.
Cloud relay Your encoder sends one feed to a relay, which distributes it to selected platforms. Creators who want a simpler setup, have limited local encoding capacity, or are sending to several destinations. You must configure the relay and check its current destination and plan limits.

YouTube calls broadcasting the same content to multiple platforms at once “simulstreaming” and says, “You can go live with the same content across multiple platforms at the same time.” Its guidance describes direct encoding as an option for people who want control and have a powerful computer, and cloud relays as simpler and useful for more than two channels. These are YouTube’s recommendations, not a guarantee of performance for every setup. YouTube’s guidance on streaming across platforms explains both approaches.

Prepare your accounts and stream details

  • Confirm that each destination account is active and in good standing, and check that its rules allow your planned simulcast.
  • Find the destination’s RTMP server URL and stream key if your encoder or relay needs them. Treat stream keys like passwords: do not share them publicly, and replace one if it is exposed.
  • For YouTube, use a verified channel with live streaming enabled. YouTube says first-time activation can take at least 24 hours after the initial request, so enable it well before an event.
  • Decide whether the stream will use separate live events at each destination or a relay’s connected accounts and selected events. Verify that the right event is selected at each service.

Set up direct outputs from streaming software

Configure each destination

  1. In each platform’s live dashboard, create or select the event and locate its server URL and stream key.
  2. In your encoder, add a stream output for each destination. Enter that platform’s ingest URL and corresponding key; do not reuse one platform’s credentials for another.
  3. Choose output settings that the receiving platforms and your encoder can support. Keep in mind that separate outputs increase combined upload use, and multiple encodes can increase computer workload.
  4. Start the encoder and check that the broadcast appears at every destination. Confirm the correct title, event, video, audio, and privacy or visibility setting before sharing the links.

Budget upload bandwidth for all outputs

Add the target bitrates for the direct outputs, then leave headroom for a stable connection. YouTube Help, accessed in 2026, recommends upload speed of “1.5 to 2 times” the combined target bitrate. Its example adds a 6 Mbps stream and a 4 Mbps stream to reach a 10 Mbps combined target, then recommends 15–20 Mbps upload—particularly on a shared connection. This is YouTube’s setup guidance, not an independently measured universal threshold. Check YouTube’s current setup guidance and test your own connection under realistic conditions.

Set up a cloud relay

Connect the relay to your destinations

  1. Sign in to the relay and connect the destination accounts you plan to use. If an account connection is unavailable, check whether the service supports that destination and whether your plan includes it.
  2. Create or select the intended live events on the destination platforms, then choose those outputs in the relay. Enable the outputs before the broadcast starts.
  3. In your encoder, select the relay as the streaming service or enter the relay’s ingest URL and stream key. Use the exact credentials shown by the relay.
  4. Start streaming from your encoder. Check that the relay receives the feed and that every selected destination shows the live broadcast.

For an OBS workflow, Restream’s guide describes connecting Facebook and YouTube channels in Restream, then selecting Restream as OBS’s service or entering the relay’s stream key before starting OBS. The guide also describes using Restream Studio in a browser when OBS is not needed. Its listed platform availability and plan limits can change; confirm the current terms and destinations before relying on them. See Restream’s Facebook and YouTube setup guide.

Service-specific output limits

Cloudflare Stream documents one live input simulcasting to as many as 50 concurrent destinations, with outputs that can be enabled or disabled during a broadcast. That is a Cloudflare Stream capability, not a general limit or promise for other relay services. Read Cloudflare Stream’s simulcasting documentation.

Test before the event and monitor the live stream

  • Do a private or otherwise low-risk test at each destination. Check moving video, typical audio activity, graphics, and any overlays—not just a static connection test.
  • Use a realistic speed test that reflects the video and audio activity you expect during the event. YouTube recommends testing under typical streaming conditions rather than relying only on a nominal connection figure.
  • While live, watch each platform’s stream-health indicators. For YouTube, check the Stream health tab in Live Control Room.
  • Verify that viewers can reach the intended event and that audio and video stay in sync. If the relay exposes per-output status, check each destination separately.

Check platform rules before simulcasting

Each receiving service sets its own terms. Twitch’s Terms of Service section 11 permits simulcasting subject to conditions described there: the Twitch audience experience must not be worse than on other services; creators must not direct the Twitch community to leave for a concurrent stream elsewhere; and third-party services must not combine activity from other platforms—such as merged chat—on the Twitch stream during the simulcast. The related FAQ distinguishes personal-use tools from content shown on the Twitch stream. Because these policies can change and their full text may not always be readily accessible, check the live policy and any separate exclusivity agreement before relying on a specific interpretation. Troubleshoot common forwarding problems

One destination never goes live

Check that the correct live event is selected, its output is enabled, and its stream key and ingest URL match that destination. If you are streaming directly, confirm that the encoder is actually sending an output to that platform. If using a relay, check both whether it received the feed and whether it is distributing to that specific destination.

The stream buffers or loses quality

For direct outputs, compare the combined target bitrate with available upload capacity; several streams can exceed a connection that works for one. Reduce targets if necessary, account for shared network use, and repeat a realistic test. With a relay, the encoder sends one incoming feed, but your internet connection still needs to sustain that input reliably.

The computer struggles during a direct multi-output stream

Multiple outputs can increase encoding workload. Check encoder performance and reduce the workload or use a cloud relay if the machine cannot sustain the required outputs. A relay shifts distribution to the service, but does not fix a poor connection between your encoder and the relay.

YouTube will not accept the broadcast

Confirm that live streaming is enabled on the verified channel and that the correct event credentials are being used. If you have only just requested live access, YouTube says activation can take at least 24 hours.
