In Minecraft Java Edition, /tick freeze stops game ticking broadly, while /tick unfreeze resumes it. It does not freeze only selected mobs. In Bedrock Edition, Microsoft’s stable command reference does not list /tick, so do not rely on that Java syntax there. If you want a statue-like effect for specific mobs, Slowness can reduce movement for some—but it is not a true freeze.
Freeze the game in Java Edition
Enter /tick freeze in chat to stop game ticking, then use /tick unfreeze to resume it. The command is documented for Java Edition and affects the game broadly rather than targeting a mob or group. That means it is useful for pausing the world, but it can also interrupt other activity.
The command reference lists players and entities a player is riding as exceptions to the freeze. A Mojang issue report also describes a case involving a mob carrying a player; treat that as a reported behavior, not a universal rule for every version. Does /tick freeze work in Bedrock?
Microsoft’s stable Bedrock command reference does not list /tick. Do not assume Java’s command works in Bedrock. To check commands available in your game, use Bedrock’s in-game help, such as /help or /help <command>. Microsoft’s Bedrock command reference documents the command list and help guidance.

Can you freeze only selected mobs?
The sources establish no command here that selectively and completely freezes mobs. Slowness is a partial workaround: it reduces movement speed for some mobs, but does not stop jumping, falling, or climbing. Flying mobs are unaffected, and Withers and Ender Dragons are immune.
