In Cuphead, a 6/6 Super Meter entry on a boss’s results screen means you made six counted meter uses during that fight, and only attacks that connected count. The most direct route is a five-card Super Art followed by one successful EX attack. A Super Art spends five meter cards and each EX attack spends one, so five plus one gives six.
The phrase matches the boss S-rank scoring in Cuphead, so this guide covers that game. The Super Meter requirement is one of several conditions for an S-rank, and it is easy to meet on its own while still missing the rank.

What the 6/6 criterion actually counts
The score tracks how many times you spend Super Meter during a boss fight, not how full the gauge is. Each meter use that lands adds to the count, and the target is six. Filling the gauge repeatedly without spending it, or spending it on attacks that miss, does not raise the number.
How the meter cards are spent
Meter cards are the currency. Two costs matter for this score:
#1 Best Overall
- Experience the classic run and gun action with a pal in 2-player local co-op
- Includes the “Delicious Last Course” expansion filled with new bosses and brand-new character Ms. Chalice
- Includes exclusive “Cuphead Funnies” comic collector cards & vintage-inspired “Cuphead Club Membership”, and a hand-drawn reversible coversheet
- Super Art: requires five filled cards and counts as five uses when it connects.
- EX attack: costs one card and counts as one use when it connects.
Because the Super Art is worth five, it cannot reach six on its own. The community guide cited below scores a five-card Super Art as 5/6, and frequent special-move use does not remove the need for one more counted use.
Two routes to six uses
| Route | Cards spent | Counted uses | What has to happen |
|---|---|---|---|
| A: Five-card Super Art plus one EX attack | 5 for the Super Art, 1 for the EX attack (6 total) | 5 + 1 = 6 | The Super Art must connect, then one EX attack must also connect before the boss falls. |
| B: Six separate EX attacks | 1 per EX attack (6 total) | 6 × 1 = 6 | Six EX attacks must connect. No Super Art is needed, but each hit costs a full card. |
Route A is usually the more efficient use of the meter, because it turns five cards into five counts in one action. Route B is the fallback when the five-card Super Art is hard to land, such as when the boss is not in a position where the big attack connects reliably. The sources do not measure which route is faster in practice, so choose based on the fight in front of you.

Step-by-step plan for Route A
- Build meter cards by dealing damage to the boss and by parrying its attacks. Keep track of how many cards are filled.
- When five cards are filled, use the Super Art while the boss is in a vulnerable state, so the attack connects. A connecting Super Art puts you at 5/6.
- Build at least one more card before the fight ends. Do not spend the sixth card on anything else.
- Use one EX attack on the boss and make sure it connects. This is the sixth counted use, which completes the 6/6 entry.
Common reasons the count stays short
- The EX attack misses. A whiff does not count toward the criterion, so ensure the attack connects before the boss is defeated.
- Expecting the Super Art alone to finish the score. It reaches 5/6 at most.
- Spending the sixth card too early. If you use a card before you have a Super Art ready, you may not have five cards when you need them.
- Running out of fight time. The count must be completed before the boss is defeated, so build the last card early enough to use it.
How the 6/6 fits into S-rank
An achievement guide describes S-rank requirements on a boss played on Expert difficulty, and lists time, health, parries and six Super Meter uses among the conditions. The time allowance and other limits can differ from boss to boss, so check each boss’s own requirements rather than assuming one cutoff applies everywhere. Meeting the 6/6 meter count does not guarantee an S-rank on its own.

- Steam Community, “Tips for getting ALL S Grades on Expert Level”: a community guide that identifies the 6/6 score and states that a five-card Super Art scores as 5/6.
- XboxAchievements, “Cuphead Achievement Guide & Road Map”: an achievement guide that lists Expert difficulty and the six meter uses for S-rank, and advises making sure the attack connects.
- Cuphead Wiki.gg, “List of Weapons”: a community mechanics reference stating that EX attacks spend one card and Super Arts require five. It is not an official developer source.
- TrueAchievements, “Put On a Show achievement in Cuphead”: a secondary achievement reference that supports the S-rank context.
The meter costs and the S-rank requirements above come from these community and achievement guides. No official statement from the game’s developer on this scoring was found, so treat these figures as player-verified guidance rather than published design rules.
