The fastest straightforward way to get an early horse in Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 is to reclaim Pebbles from the horse trader at Semine, southwest of Troskowitz. Greet Pebbles in the enclosure, then speak to the trader and choose the dialogue about Pebbles. The guides below report that Speech 7 can unlock a persuasion option to get her back for free; otherwise, you can pay the trader.
Get Pebbles back at Semine
- Progress through the opening story until you can explore the open world.
- Travel southwest from Troskowitz to Semine and find the horse trader’s enclosure.
- Greet the gray mare Pebbles, then speak to the trader and select the dialogue option about “Pebbles!” The Epic Games Store guide recommends speaking with the trader during the day: Epic Games Store guide.
- If your Speech is 7, choose “Be reasonable” to attempt to persuade the trader to return her. PowerPyx and the Epic guide report this Speech threshold; if the option is unavailable or the check fails, you can pay instead: PowerPyx guide.
PowerPyx reports Pebbles’s asking price as 150 Groschen before haggling. Treat that as a guide-reported price, not a guaranteed amount: the final cost can depend on the in-game interaction.

Buy Pebbles or choose another horse
The Semine trader also sells other horses. If you have enough Groschen and prefer a different mount, inspect the available horses before deciding rather than choosing by price alone. GameSpot identifies five useful comparison points: stamina for sustained galloping, capacity for carrying weight, speed, courage against panic and throwing the rider, and value. The guide also says trading in your current horse applies the difference between its value and the new horse’s price: GameSpot horse guide.
Why stealing a horse is a risky shortcut
You can take horses from paddocks, including one south of Troskowitz, but this is not the reliable route to a permanent mount. PowerPyx warns that being caught can lead to a fine or punishment, and an unregistered stolen horse returns to its original location after you dismount. The Epic guide describes taking a horse from Semine after dark and selling stolen horses to Mikolai at the Nomad Camp; PC Gamer says Mikolai can transfer ownership for around half the horse’s price. Wait for Herring if you do not need a horse now
Later in the story, a horse named Herring is offered at Trosky Castle. PowerPyx associates the offer with “Back in the Saddle,” while PC Gamer and GameSpot place it after “For Whom the Bell Tolls”; because the guides differ on the quest label, the castle location is the safer point of reference. GameSpot says Herring has slightly better stats than Pebbles. If you want to ride Pebbles long-term, PC Gamer also describes the Good Old Pebbles perk as a substantial stat improvement, but its guide passage does not establish a distance threshold.
