In Avowed, you can get adra by looting selected bosses and containers, buying limited merchant stock, salvaging eligible equipment, and cleansing Strangled Adra pillars. There are four named regional types—Adra, Awakened Adra, Corrupted Adra, and Adra Bán—and five pillars to find. If you plan to reach the Garden, collect the first four pillars before entering: that area locks you out of the earlier regions.
How to get adra
Adra is an upgrade resource, so prioritize equipment you expect to keep using. The amount or kind you receive depends on the source; no route guarantees that every chest, enemy, or salvaged item will yield adra.

Early Dawnshore loot and merchants
For an early pickup, after defeating the bear during Message from Afar, search the Aedyran soldier’s body in the room. PC Gamer’s guide also points to a yellow-quality chest at the top of Watcher’s Tower in northern Dawnshore, an underwater chest east of the Western Pargrun Wall fast-travel beacon at the base of the smuggler’s lift, and a chest in a bandit-guarded hut south of Yellowband Camp.
In Paradis, the guide reports that Gweneth at the blacksmith in the Market District and Sanza at Sanza’s Emporium in Northern Paradis High Market sell adra. It also recommends sidequests such as Dawntreader, bounties such as Ralga, and exploring Castol’s Folly and the Emerald Stair Gatehouse; these are exploration leads, not guaranteed drops.

Salvage carefully
Salvage can turn unwanted gear into upgrade materials, but published guides differ on whether unique items reliably return adra. Inspect the item’s displayed breakdown return before confirming rather than assuming a unique will yield a particular material.
Adra types and progression
The regional names and associations below are reported by Prima Games. PC Gamer describes the materials as progression-linked and identifies Awakened Adra as useful for upgrading equipment from Fine to Exquisite. The guides do not establish every numeric equipment level, recipe, or full quality ladder, so those details should be checked in the game rather than inferred from the material names.

Prima Games says higher-tier adra can be crafted by combining multiple lower-tier materials and that higher-tier adra can be broken down into lower-tier material. Consult the crafting interface for the specific quantities and available conversions.

There is one Strangled Adra pillar in each of the five zones listed by PC Gamer’s Rory Norris in a guide published February 18, 2025. Gamepressure’s directions below describe the routes and rewards. Cleanse the first four before entering the Garden; Gamepressure identifies the Garden as the point of no return for earlier regions.

- Dawnshore — Precarious Hold, near the Emerald Stair Gatehouse: At the southeastern region entrance, work through the hold’s electricity-generator puzzles. The pillar is along the path beyond them. Reward: one Adra.
- Emerald Stair — Grim Wetlands: In the western part of the region, climb to the small hill where the pillar stands. Reward: one Awakened Adra.
- Shatterscarp — Broken Crown Rock, Great Sand Sea: Burn the webs, pass through, then jump to the far ledge to reach the pillar. Reward: one Corrupted Adra.
- Galawain’s Tusks — Sallow Steppe: Explore the southern area and climb the higher rocks to a ledge with the pillar. Reward: one Adra Bán, as named by Gamepressure.
- The Garden — Broken Aqueduct: From north of the aqueduct, start in the water and reach the northeastern rocky ledge. Burn the blocking brambles with ranged fire, then make an ice platform to access the upper passage and pillar.
When to buy, loot, salvage, or explore
- Need a predictable, one-time regional reward? Make the Strangled Adra pillars a priority, especially before the Garden.
- Have gold but want to avoid dismantling gear? Check merchant stock; quantities are limited and may depend on progression.
- Have unwanted equipment? Review its salvage preview and compare the material return with the item’s value to your build.
- Exploring or completing a boss encounter? Search bodies as well as nearby containers, including ordinary-looking corpses.
These locations, prices, and acquisition behaviors come from game guides published in 2025 rather than official developer documentation. A patch may change drops, crafting behavior, or merchant stock and prices.
