You don’t need advanced features to start live streaming from a computer: phone verification unlocks YouTube’s intermediate features, which include computer live streaming with a limited daily limit. Advanced access raises that limit. To request it, open YouTube Studio → Settings → Channel → Feature eligibility, complete phone verification, then build sufficient channel history or complete ID or video verification if YouTube offers it to you.
Do you need advanced features to live stream?
Not to begin streaming from a computer. YouTube lists computer live streaming among its intermediate features, which become available after phone verification. Advanced feature access provides a higher daily live-streaming limit.

Live-stream eligibility and advanced-feature access are related but separate checks. A channel must be verified, have no live-streaming restriction in the previous 90 days, and meet YouTube’s minimum age requirement of 16. Meeting the advanced-feature requirements does not override a live-streaming restriction or age requirement.
How to check your feature eligibility
- Sign in to the YouTube Studio account for the channel you want to stream from.
- Open Settings → Channel → Feature eligibility.
- Review the status for intermediate and advanced features. The page shows which steps are available or still required for your channel.
How to get advanced features
- Complete phone verification. From Feature eligibility, follow the prompt to verify the channel. YouTube can send a code by text message or voice call. This step unlocks intermediate features, including computer live streaming.
- Choose an advanced-access route. After phone verification, YouTube may let you qualify by building sufficient channel history or verify your identity using an ID or video. The ID and video options are not available to every creator.
- Follow the selected verification flow. If you submit an ID or video, YouTube says review usually takes about 24 hours. If you use channel history, keep using the channel in line with YouTube’s policies; there is no fixed public timeline for reaching the required history.
- Check Feature eligibility again. Return to YouTube Studio → Settings → Channel → Feature eligibility to see whether advanced access has been enabled.
YouTube explains that channel history is based on a combination of channel activity and Google Account-related signals. It says most active channels already have sufficient history, but it does not publish a guaranteed time to qualify. Policy noncompliance or a failure to maintain positive channel history can delay or remove advanced-feature eligibility.

What to check if live streaming is still unavailable
- Channel verification: Confirm that the channel is verified. Phone verification is the route to intermediate features, including computer live streaming.
- Recent restrictions: Check whether the channel has had a live-streaming restriction in the previous 90 days. YouTube requires no such restriction to live stream.
- Age: The person streaming must be at least 16 years old under YouTube’s current live-streaming requirement.
- Feature status: Recheck intermediate and advanced status in Feature eligibility. Advanced access increases the daily limit; it is not the first eligibility tier for computer streaming.
Pick a streaming method after eligibility is enabled
YouTube supports live streaming from a mobile device, webcam, encoder, or console. The method affects the equipment you need, not whether your channel qualifies for live streaming. For example, computer webcam streaming requires a computer with a webcam; an encoder is an option for gameplay or a more involved production using equipment such as microphones, cameras, and preamps.
