Complete The Caretaker’s Lunar Lament to learn Level 1 Alohomora from Gladwin Moon. It opens Level 1 locks; returning 9 Demiguise Statues to Moon upgrades it for Level 2 locks, and 13 more (22 total) unlock Level 3. You can collect Demiguise Statues only at night. To pick a lock, move the green and red sparks until their matching gears spin.
How to get Alohomora
Alohomora is unlocked through main-story progress, not by collecting Demiguise Statues first. Complete The Caretaker’s Lunar Lament, the quest in which caretaker Gladwin Moon teaches you the spell. The reward is Level 1 Alohomora, which opens Level 1 locks.

Higher-level locks remain inaccessible until you upgrade the spell by finding and returning Demiguise Statues to Moon.
How to upgrade Alohomora and open higher-level locks
- Level 2 locks: Return 9 Demiguise Statues to Gladwin Moon.
- Level 3 locks: Return 13 additional statues after the first 9, for 22 total.
Statues can be collected only at night. Windows Central’s guide counts 33 statues overall, with 3 obtained during the initial quest and 30 remaining to find; you do not need all 33 to reach Level 3. See Windows Central’s Demiguise Moon Statue locations guide for its location list.

To find statues, explore buildings and rooms while it is night, then return to Moon to turn in the statues and upgrade Alohomora. PowerPyx reports the 9-and-13 statue thresholds and the nighttime restriction in its Hogwarts Legacy locked doors guide.
How to pick locks in Hogwarts Legacy
When you interact with a lock, the puzzle presents green and red sparks. Each spark controls a set of gears: move a spark around until its corresponding gears begin to spin, then keep both positions aligned until the lock opens.

- Keyboard on PC: PC Gamer lists Q/E to move the green spark and A/D to move the red spark.
- Controller: Use the two sticks to move the sparks.
Make small adjustments and watch the gears after each movement. The aim is to find the position for each spark that makes its own gear set turn; once both are turning, hold those positions while the mechanism completes.

Can you skip the lockpicking puzzle?
PowerPyx reports that a skip prompt is available on Story difficulty. If you are playing on Story and do not see the option, check the current in-game difficulty and settings; availability may differ by platform or game version.
