Unlock a style with its corresponding in-game item, then equip it from the Character window or open Character > Facewear in the main menu. Once unlocked, styles can be equipped or removed freely and customized with a selection of twelve colors, according to SQUARE ENIX’s Patch 7.0 notes.
How facewear works
Introduced in Patch 7.0, facewear is separate from other equippable accessories and has its own slot in the Character window. The Facewear interface is also available under Character > Facewear. Facewear can appear in portraits as well as on your character.

Each style must first be unlocked using its corresponding item. After that, you can equip or remove it whenever you like and choose from twelve colors. The Patch 7.0 notes do not say that every style supports every color, so check the options available for the style you have unlocked. SQUARE ENIX Patch 7.0 notes.
How to unlock a facewear style
- Identify the style you want, such as oval spectacles or an eyepatch.
- Search the Eorzea Database for the matching The Faces We Wear item. The item entry is the place to confirm its acquisition source; sources differ by style.
- Acquire and use that item in game to unlock the style.
- Open the Character window’s facewear slot or select Character > Facewear, then equip the style and choose from the colors available for it.
For example, the Eorzea Database entry for The Faces We Wear – Oval Spectacles lists Gold Saucer Attendant’s Prize Exchange III as a source, for 100,000 MGP. More styles arrived after launch
Patch 7.1 added unlock items for pince-nez, magnifiers, brass goggles, under-rim glasses, and oval reading glasses. Patch 7.2 added items for tinted goggles, right and left eyepatches, metallic eyepatches, coeurl eyeglasses, groovy glasses, and shaded spectacles. The patch notes confirm these additions, but do not provide a complete current acquisition guide for every style. Find the exact item in the Eorzea Database to check its source.

Patch 7.0 converted four fashion accessories into facewear: False Oval Spectacles, False Shaded Spectacles, False Classic Spectacles, and Rose-colored Spectacles. If you acquired one of these before Patch 7.0, the Patch 7.0 notes say you can claim its corresponding facewear free from a Calamity salvager in Limsa Lominsa, Gridania, or Ul’dah.

The items previously used to acquire those fashion accessories were not removed. If you still have one, or obtain one through trading or the market board, you can use it to acquire the corresponding facewear. See the Patch 7.0 notes for the conversion details.
