Defeat the Exo Mechs with XF-09 Ares as the last mech defeated. Ares’ Exoskeleton is listed as a boss drop for that kill order, not as a crafted weapon. The exact drop table can vary by Calamity version, so check the item entry or loot in your installed version if the item does not appear.
How to get Ares’ Exoskeleton
- Progress to the Exo Mechs encounter and construct the Codebreaker. The official Exo Mechs entry says it requires a Decryption Computer and an Auric Quantum Cooling Cell: Exo Mechs.
- Initiate the encounter through the Codebreaker. The player can choose which mech spawns first, so this choice does not by itself determine whether Ares is defeated last.
- Defeat the other Exo Mechs, then defeat XF-09 Ares last. The official item entry lists Ares’ Exoskeleton as a drop under that condition: Ares’ Exoskeleton.
If the weapon does not drop
- Check the kill order: Ares must be the final mech defeated for the listed drop condition.
- Check the item entry or the encounter’s loot in your installed Calamity version. The indexed official wiki lists Calamity Mod 2.2.3 and Terraria 1.4.4.9 as supported versions, but the item page’s full version-specific drop history is not available here: Official Calamity Mod Wiki.
- An indexed official item entry also lists an Expert Mode Treasure Box drop. The exact Treasure Box condition was not confirmed, so verify it in the item entry for your version rather than relying on it as a substitute for the Ares-last drop condition.
What to know about the encounter
The Exo Mechs are a late-game boss encounter, and XF-09 Ares is one of the available mechs. The first mech can be chosen by the player, but the weapon’s listed condition concerns which mech is defeated last. The legacy Fandom item entry also describes the weapon as a boss drop requiring Ares last; the official Calamity Mod Wiki is the better reference for current naming and version information: Legacy Fandom item entry.
