The first change for each Pokémon costs 1,000 matching Crowned Energy: Crowned Sword Energy for Zacian or Crowned Shield Energy for Zamazenta. Energy is available through event-specific routes, including defeating the corresponding Crowned raid boss or qualifying ticketed Special Research; check the current in-game News and official event listings for a live opportunity.
How to change Zacian or Zamazenta into its Crowned form
- Choose the right Pokémon. Use a Zacian for Crowned Sword or a Zamazenta for Crowned Shield.
- Teach it Iron Head. The Pokémon must know Iron Head as its Charged Attack before the form change.
- Collect the matching energy. Zacian requires Crowned Sword Energy; Zamazenta requires Crowned Shield Energy. Pokémon GO has announced energy from defeating the corresponding Crowned-form raid boss and from ticketed Special Research. Availability depends on the event.
- Spend 1,000 energy to transform it. Use 1,000 of the matching energy for that Pokémon’s first form change.
The official instructions describe changing the form of your existing Zacian or Zamazenta, rather than catching a Crowned form as the final result. After an individual Pokémon has changed form once, that Pokémon can change forms again without spending more energy, according to Pokémon GO’s Crowned Energy announcement.

The effect descriptions and activation costs are from Pokémon GO’s Behemoth Blade and Behemoth Bash announcement. These Adventure Effects are separate from the energy cost to change form.
How to get Crowned Energy—and when it is available
Look for an official event featuring the Crowned raid boss you need: Zacian raids for Crowned Sword Energy or Zamazenta raids for Crowned Shield Energy. Pokémon GO has also offered energy through ticketed Special Research, but that route is tied to specific events and tickets. Do not assume that an ordinary Zacian or Zamazenta raid awards Crowned Energy; the stated raid route is defeating the corresponding Crowned form.

Event appearances are not a permanent schedule. The 2025 Pokémon GO Fest announcements and the later Max Finale schedule document past opportunities, not a current date. For example, Max Finale scheduled Crowned Sword Zacian for a five-star Raid Hour on August 21, 2025, and Crowned Shield Zamazenta for August 22, 2025, each from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. local time, with the matching energy available during those hours. Those dates have passed. The official 2026 Road of Legends announcement lists both Crowned forms among five-star raids, but its available listing does not establish event dates or energy rewards. Check Pokémon GO’s in-game News and official event pages for the latest confirmed schedule.
How to activate Behemoth Blade or Behemoth Bash
Once your Pokémon is in Crowned form, its Charged Attack is Behemoth Blade (Zacian) or Behemoth Bash (Zamazenta). You can activate that move’s Adventure Effect from its Pokémon details:

- Open your Pokémon storage and select the Crowned Pokémon.
- Scroll to Adventure Effects and tap Use.
- Choose a duration with the on-screen controls, then confirm.

- A Zacian or Zamazenta in Crowned form cannot be traded.
- It cannot be transferred to Pokémon HOME while it is in Crowned form.
These restrictions are stated in Pokémon GO’s Crowned Energy announcement.
