Yes—Primogems can be earned without spending money. The dependable sources are daily commission rewards (including the Encounter Points alternative), exploration, Archon, Story and World Quests, achievements, limited-time events, promotional codes, recurring challenge modes and some in-game mail. Which sources remain available depends on your account progress and whatever events are currently active. Genesis Crystals are paid currency, so buying a top-up is not a free method.
This guide separates repeatable routines from one-time content and expiring opportunities, then shows how to prioritize them when you are saving for a character or weapon banner.
Every legitimate free Primogem source at a glance
HoYoverse’s Help Center article “How can I get more Primogems?” (updated September 17, 2025) identifies the core categories below. It does not publish a guaranteed grand total for a patch, nor a universal amount for each quest, chest or achievement. Your remaining total therefore depends on what you have already completed.

Reward values for events, codes, quests, exploration objects and achievements change or vary. Treat the table as a map of sources, not a promise that every account can claim the same number.
1. Claim the four daily commission rewards
Daily commissions are the most consistent routine. The normal route is to complete the four commissions assigned for the day and collect their rewards. Commission objectives are selected randomly from the pool available to your account; choosing a preferred region does not force a particular commission to appear.

Use Encounter Points when you have other content to play
HoYoverse also lets you claim the day’s commission rewards through Encounter Points. Long-Term Encounter Points accumulate as you play, and each 30 Original Resin used can be exchanged for one commission reward. This is useful when you would rather spend your limited play session on an event, quest or exploration than travel to four commission locations.
- Open the commission screen after the daily reset.
- Check whether you have enough Encounter Points to claim a reward.
- Use the available Encounter Points, or complete commissions directly if that is more convenient.
- Claim all four daily commission rewards before the day rolls over.
The alternative method still represents four commission rewards for the day. Do not count four completed commissions and four Encounter Point claims as eight separate daily rewards; the official description presents Encounter Points as an alternative way to receive the same daily set.

Random selection is affected by the pool your account has unlocked. A World Quest prerequisite, an earlier part of a commission story, or a dialogue choice can determine whether later commissions are eligible. Changing the preferred region can narrow the pool but cannot guarantee a named commission.
2. Check recurring challenge resets
Periodic combat modes are easy to miss because a completed cycle does not remain claimable forever. The official reset guidance states that Spiral Abyss refreshes on the 16th day of each month and Imaginarium Theater resets on the first day. If you have earned rewards in either mode, claim them before the refresh; unclaimed rewards do not carry over.

Build a reset-day habit
- On the first day of the month, open Imaginarium Theater and inspect the new cycle.
- On the 16th, open Spiral Abyss and check for the refreshed floors or rewards.
- Before each reset, revisit completed stages and collect anything marked claimable.
- Read the in-game reward panel for the current cycle rather than relying on an old guide.
The retrieved official reset page gives the dates and the expiration warning, but it does not specify current Primogem yields. The exact amount can change with game updates, so the live reward screen is the authoritative check for your account.
3. Explore every region for unopened rewards
Exploration is a permanent source category. HoYoverse specifically names chests, waypoints and domains among the exploration activities that can provide Primogems. The amount left is personal: a new region may contain many untouched objectives, while a heavily explored account may have little remaining.
A practical exploration sweep
- Open the map and look for unactivated teleport waypoints. Activate them as you travel; they also make later quests and commissions faster.
- Search for visible chests and investigate environmental puzzles, enemy groups and mechanisms that block access.
- Enter domains you have not unlocked or completed. Check each domain’s first-clear or challenge rewards in its interface.
- Use the in-game map markers to record unopened areas, locked entrances and puzzles that require a quest.
- Return after unlocking a new quest or ability. Some previously inaccessible chests and routes become available only after account progress.
There is no single official “Primogems per region” figure. Do not treat community spreadsheets or an older map total as a guaranteed current payout for every player.
4. Advance Archon, Story and World Quests
Quest rewards are another official category. Archon Quests move the main story, Story Quests focus on individual characters, and World Quests add regional or side narratives. Their availability is gated by prerequisites such as Adventure Rank, earlier quests, reputation or story completion.

Choose quests according to your goal
- Archon Quests: prioritize these when you want to unlock regions, systems or later quest chains that open more earning opportunities.
- Story Quests: complete them when you meet the requirements and want a focused, usually guided sequence rather than open-ended exploration.
- World Quests: use the quest menu and map to find permanent objectives you have not started; some unlock hidden areas, puzzles or additional commissions.
Quest rewards are not uniform, and the official support material does not provide a fixed Primogem total for each quest type. Read the reward preview in-game and regard prerequisites as part of the time cost.
5. Complete achievements you have not finished
Achievements provide another mostly one-time pool. Open the achievement menu and inspect unfinished categories rather than attempting random tasks. Some objectives are naturally completed while exploring or progressing through quests; others require a particular combat, puzzle or interaction condition.
Make achievements efficient
- Filter for incomplete achievements and note any requirement that names a region, domain, enemy or quest.
- Group objectives by location so one trip can complete several tasks.
- Finish prerequisite quests before attempting achievements that depend on their areas or dialogue.
- Claim the reward as soon as an achievement is marked complete.
Because achievements are generally not repeatable, they are valuable for filling gaps on an account with substantial permanent content still untouched, but they cannot replace a daily routine once most objectives are done.
6. Participate in limited-time events
Limited-time events can add Primogems while their event pages are active. They may involve combat, mini-games, exploration, quests or several stages with separate objectives. HoYoverse directs players to official HoYoLAB event information for current and upcoming events.

Do not let an event expire unfinished
- Read the event notice for its start and end times, unlock requirements and stage schedule.
- Complete the event’s introductory quest if one is required before rewards appear.
- Check the event reward tab after each activity; some rewards require a separate manual claim.
- Return before the final deadline, including any staged content that unlocks later.
Event Primogem amounts and availability are temporary. Confirm the live in-game notice or an official announcement before planning a banner around a particular event total.
7. Redeem active promotional codes
Livestreams and collaborations sometimes distribute promotional codes that can include Primogems. Codes are time-sensitive, may have usage limits or account requirements, and typically cannot be redeemed more than once on the same account.

- Use a code announced through an official HoYoverse channel or in-game notice.
- Check the expiration date and the required Adventure Rank or account condition.
- Redeem it through the currently supported official redemption method for your region, then sign in to the correct account.
- Open in-game mail afterward and claim the attached reward before any mail deadline.
Do not assume a code still works because an old list displays it. Expired codes cannot be made valid by trying a different redemption page, and unofficial “code generators” are not legitimate ways to earn currency.

HoYoverse says Primogems may also arrive through in-game mail. These messages are separate from repeatable gameplay sources: they can accompany announcements, compensation or special distributions and may appear without a quest objective.
Open the mail tab whenever you log in after an update, maintenance notice or official event announcement. Read the expiration line, if present, and claim the attachment before it disappears. Mail is irregular, so it is a bonus to check rather than a dependable farming schedule.

How to prioritize sources when saving for a banner
There is no evidence-based universal “fastest” method because reward rates are not fixed across accounts. Use the following order to avoid losing expiring opportunities while preserving your time.
- Claim anything that expires first. Check event tasks, promotional codes and mail before working on permanent exploration or quests.
- Keep the daily routine. Complete or claim the four commission rewards each day, using Encounter Points when that saves travel or time.
- Check reset-based modes. Review Imaginarium Theater on the first and Spiral Abyss on the 16th, then collect earned rewards before refresh.
- Unlock account-gated content. If a quest or region is required for an event or commission chain, advance the prerequisite rather than wandering for disconnected chests.
- Spend remaining play time on permanent content. Choose exploration, quests or achievements according to whether you prefer low-combat collection, story progression or challenge objectives.

What does not count as a free method
Genesis Crystals are purchased premium currency. They can be converted into Primogems, but buying them is a top-up, not free earning. HoYoverse also states that it does not grant Primogems directly to accounts to maintain a fair and balanced game experience. No controller, guidebook, merchandise purchase or third-party service creates free Primogems; rely on the in-game and official promotional routes above.
Why you will see different totals online
Two players can follow the same checklist and receive different totals because one may have already opened the chests, completed the quests or claimed the achievements available to the other. Events and codes also expire, and challenge-mode rewards can change between cycles. HoYoverse’s published categories establish the legitimate sources, but the reviewed official pages do not state a universal number of free Primogems per patch.
For an accurate personal estimate, record only rewards currently shown as claimable in your commission, event, quest, achievement, challenge and mail interfaces. Treat any forecast as a schedule of possible sources, not a guaranteed payout.
