Before you start
Complete The Final Shape campaign to unlock Pale Heart progression. Bungie says Pale Heart Ranks become available after the campaign; specific account or quest prerequisites may vary, so follow Micah-10’s unlock chain in-game if a step is still unavailable. Stage 1: Get the Legendary Khvostov 7G-02
You need 15 Lost Encryption Bits in total: nine from regional chests and six from Cyst rubble piles. Combining them gives the Lost Encryption Code, which opens the Legendary weapon chest in the Divide. GameSpot’s walkthrough reports the collectible counts and chest route.
Collect the nine regional-chest bits
Find three regional chests in each of the Pale Heart’s three areas: The Landing, The Blooming, and The Impasse. The chests are marked on the map. Open each one to collect its encryption bit.

Search all six Cysts for rubble piles
Micah-10’s repeatable Alone in the Dark quest line unlocks the six Cyst encounters. In each Cyst, locate and interact with the rubble pile to collect its bit. Completing the encounter alone does not count as collecting the piece.
Open the Divide chest
Once you have the Lost Encryption Code, travel to the Divide by way of The Impasse and open the golden chest there. It awards the Legendary Khvostov 7G-02. Keep it: you need to hold this version when opening the Exotic chest later.

Stage 2: Get the Exotic Khvostov 7G-0X
The Exotic stage requires eight Visions of the Traveler and nine Motes dropped by unique Overthrow bosses. The Visions provide eight Motes; the boss drops bring the total to 17. When the Motes combine into a Mote of Primordial Light, you can use it with the Legendary Khvostov to open the final chest.
Find and place all eight Visions
Locate the eight Visions around the Pale Heart, then place each one on its matching pedestal in the Tower’s Lost City area. The pedestals have clues to help match the collectibles. Placing all eight makes a second golden chest appear in the room.

Defeat the nine unique Overthrow bosses
Complete Overthrow in The Landing, The Blooming, and The Impasse. Each area has three rotating bosses, and each unique boss drops one Mote. Defeat all nine unique bosses—not simply nine encounters against any boss—to collect the full set.
Open the Exotic chest
Return to the Tower’s Lost City room where you placed the Visions. With the Legendary Khvostov 7G-02 held and the Mote of Primordial Light in your inventory, open the golden chest to claim the Exotic Khvostov 7G-0X.

If a collectible or Mote seems to be missing
Bungie’s June 20, 2024 support update documented tracking problems during the weapon’s launch period. It warned that Overthrow boss Triumphs could misreport defeated bosses and that regional-chest or rubble-pile Triumphs could complete before all intended items were collected. Bungie advised players not to rely on those Triumphs as confirmation: revisit Cysts, search every rubble pile, and interact with any missed chests. The support note said players should receive the Lost Encryption Code after interacting with all intended chests and rubble piles, regardless of the bit count shown in inventory. That same historical update called out two Mote problems: the Taken Servitor in The Blooming might require multiple kills, with a return to orbit between attempts, and the Koftiks Mote could be flung away when the boss died. If either drop appears missing, check the arena and consider repeating the relevant activity. These are 2024 support notes, not confirmation that either issue remains active in October 2026; check current in-game quest text and Bungie’s current known-issues information if the problem persists.

Unlock checklist
- Complete The Final Shape campaign and unlock Pale Heart progression.
- Collect nine regional-chest bits and six Cyst rubble-pile bits.
- Open the Divide chest to claim Legendary Khvostov 7G-02.
- Find and place eight Visions of the Traveler.
- Defeat all nine unique Overthrow bosses for their Motes.
- Hold the Legendary Khvostov and open the Lost City golden chest with the Mote of Primordial Light.
