For more gold in Wittle Defender, prioritize Star Challenge and Goblin Ground, and run Golden Rat Hole when it is available. Build your routine around daily quests, Patrol rewards, free Quick Patrols, and unlocked modes. Push Campaign to open progression systems, but early on, spend most hero resources on levels and star-ups for one main damage dealer rather than spreading upgrades across your roster.
These recommendations come from third-party guides, not official game documentation. Modes, attempts, ads, and rewards can change, so check what is available in your current client. The guides do not establish reliable current per-run yields or drop rates.
Which activities give gold and upgrade materials?
The guides identify several useful activities, but they do not provide comparable current reward amounts. Treat the list as a practical set of places to check—not a ranking by efficiency.
| Activity | Reported reward or use | How to use it |
|---|---|---|
| Star Challenge | Wittle AI describes it as a source of XP and gold. | Include available attempts in your routine. |
| Goblin Ground | Wittle AI names it as a gold-farming activity; Pocket Gamer describes it as an EXP source. | Run it when available for progression rewards, including gold according to Wittle AI. |
| Golden Rat Hole | Pocket Gamer identifies it as a gold source. | Check for it among the modes available to your account. |
| Boar Hunt | Pocket Gamer associates it with gear; Wittle AI includes it among daily modes. | Use it when available if you need gear-related progress. |
| Runic Plains | Wittle AI identifies it as the rune-farming mode. | Farm it when you are working on the rune system. |
Availability can depend on your unlocks, events, or the current game state. The sources do not establish exact gold per run, material drop chances, or a definitive material-by-mode table, so there is no supported numeric “best farm” to recommend.

What should your daily resource loop look like?
Use the routine below as a checklist, not a promise that every activity is unlocked or available every day. Wittle AI’s progression guidance and Pocket Gamer’s June 2025 guide recommend checking recurring activities and claiming available rewards.
- Claim what has accumulated. Collect Patrol rewards and any free Quick Patrols available to you.
- Complete daily quests. Check the quest list for objectives that overlap with modes you already plan to play.
- Spend available mode attempts. Look for Star Challenge, Goblin Ground, Golden Rat Hole, and other unlocked daily activities such as Boar Hunt.
- Check guild and event tasks. Take available guild rewards and review modes or event tasks such as Abyss Crusade when they appear.
- Use stamina rather than letting it sit unused. Spend available stamina on progression or farming that fits your current needs.
- Review optional ad rewards in the client. Pocket Gamer’s June 24, 2025 guide recommended watching available ads for rewards that could include stamina and gold. Offers can change, so rely on what the game currently displays.
Should you push Campaign or farm?
Early game: prioritize unlocks and hero growth
Push Campaign when doing so opens new systems or progression opportunities. Wittle AI’s beginner guide recommends prioritizing hero levels and star-ups over gear in the early game, and advises concentrating star-up materials and skill resources on your main carry—the hero doing most of your damage—rather than investing evenly across the roster.

When progress stalls: use farming to strengthen the carry
If a Campaign wall prevents you from advancing, spend available attempts on the activities that address your immediate bottleneck: gold sources for general development, hero-advancement resources for levels or stars, and gear or rune modes once those systems matter to your account. Then return to Campaign to test whether the focused upgrades are enough to move forward.
Midgame: bring gear into the plan
Wittle AI’s beginner guide places gear’s relevance around Chapter 80+, after clearing Legendary III on Growth Path. Treat that as a guide’s progression marker, not a universal cutoff: follow the systems and requirements shown in your own game. Once gear becomes a meaningful upgrade path, prioritize your main damage dealer instead of enhancing everyone at once.

Which upgrade materials belong to which system?
Hero advancement
Promotion Stones, Elemental Essence, and Soulstones are associated with hero advancement in the guides. Early on, direct scarce advancement and skill resources toward your main carry so that one hero can support Campaign progress.
Gear enhancement and refinement
Wittle AI’s equipment guide distinguishes two gear tracks: Gear Enchanite is associated with enhancement, while Azure Essence is associated with refinement. They are separate resources for separate systems, so check the relevant gear screen before spending them. The guide also says moved gear retains its enhancement level.

Runes and Collection Hall progress
Runic Plains is the cited place to farm runes. A Wittle AI mechanics guide says Enigma Keys used there also generate Collection Coins for Collection Hall progress. This is a third-party guide claim; check the mode and its current reward display in your client.

How should you spend scarce resources?
- Pick a main carry. Concentrate star-up materials and skill resources on the hero contributing most to your damage.
- Avoid upgrading broadly by default. The guides favor focused investment over scattering limited resources across the roster.
- Match the resource to the stage of progression. Before gear becomes relevant, prioritize levels and stars; later, direct gear resources toward the carry.
- Be cautious with shop rules of thumb. Wittle AI’s beginner guide prioritizes Black Market scrolls for early-game purchases, while another guide gives broader shop advice. The recommendations differ, so there is no single shop-spending rule supported for every account or stage.
