Masters of Albion is a single-player god game in Steam Early Access. Getting started means learning when to shape your town from above with the God Hand and when to experience Albion at ground level by controlling a character. The exact opening quest steps and current key bindings are not established here, so follow the objectives and controls displayed in your current game build.
What to expect when you start
The game moves between two ways of interacting with Albion. From above, the God Hand lets you shape a town, place and customize structures, manage workers, design items, and use abilities. You can also descend into the world by taking control of heroes, workers, animals, and other characters.
That change of perspective is the useful starting point: use the God Hand for town decisions, then explore and act at ground level when the game calls for it. The official Steam description presents these as connected parts of the experience rather than separate modes.
Controls: check the current in-game prompts
A complete, current keyboard or controller mapping is not established by the official sources cited here. Avoid relying on a third-party cheat sheet unless it matches your version and input device. Check the game’s settings and on-screen prompts for the controls available in your build, and revisit them after updates; the Steam page says UI clarity is still being refined.

One specific change is documented: 22cans added an option to invert camera controls while in Possession mode in its Update 1.1 announcement. That is a single setting, not a complete control map.
Building your town
Building is about choosing where structures go, customizing them, and providing for the workers who use them. The official Steam description also says building types can be combined into multi-purpose spaces. It describes construction as having no timers, with a completed structure working immediately.

There is no verified optimal starter layout or resource sequence established here. A sensible way to approach your first builds is to learn what each structure does and what workforce it needs, then choose placements that address the tasks in your active objectives. Treat that as a way to stay oriented, not a guaranteed best strategy.
Quests, exploration, crafting, and defense
The official game description names several activities that can shape early play: completing quests, searching for hidden treasures, exploring caves, and crafting weapons or armor to strengthen heroes. It also describes preparing for nighttime attacks with defensive structures, hero positioning, walls, and direct intervention.

The exact first quest objectives and recommended order are not established in the official material cited here. Use the active objective shown in your current build as your guide; do not assume a walkthrough for another game called Albion applies.

Masters of Albion entered Steam Early Access on April 22, 2026. 22cans says the current Early Access version contains the complete Chapter One experience, while also identifying combat feel and difficulty balance, alignment, optional quests, UI/HUD clarity, progression, and core systems as areas for continued refinement. In the developer’s words on the Steam Early Access page, “We’ve brought Masters of Albion into Early Access to build it alongside players.”

Expect menus, controls, quest details, and other systems to evolve. For the most reliable directions, use the objectives and settings shown in the version you are playing rather than treating an older guide as definitive.
