There’s no required order for playing Star Wars games. Choose a first game by the kind of play you want—such as a Jedi-led story, open-world exploration, large battles or online role-playing—then confirm that the specific edition is available for your platform.
Choose the kind of game you want to play
Star Wars games cover different genres and play styles, from older classics to modern releases. Instead of trying to work through the whole catalog, start with the experience that sounds most appealing. StarWars.com’s game quiz also frames the choice around the kind of adventure a player wants.

Match your preference to a first game
For a Jedi-centered story
Jedi: Fallen Order is a story-led action-adventure about Cal Kestis. Its official description highlights lightsaber combat, Force abilities and exploration. Choose it if those elements appeal to you; that description is not evidence that the game is especially easy for beginners.
#1 Best Overall
- The following games are included in the cartridge: STAR WARS Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy (3.6 GB)
- STAR WARS Jedi Knight II: Jedi Outcast (1.1 GB)
- STAR WARS Episode I Racer (254 MB)
- STAR WARS Republic Commando (2.5 GB)
- STAR WARS: The Force Unleashed (3.4 GB)
For exploration and flexible encounters
Outlaws follows scoundrel Kay Vess through an open world. Its listed activities include exploring planets, using stealth or blasters, deploying gadgets and piloting. StarWars.com lists PC, Xbox Series X|S and PlayStation 5; confirm that the edition you want is sold for your platform and region.
For battles and multiplayer
Battlefront II combines a single-player campaign with multiplayer battles, starfighters and heroes. If you are looking for couch play, note the boundary on the official listing: it specifies two-player offline split-screen on PS4 and Xbox One. Do not assume that feature carries over to other platforms or editions, and check the game’s store listing for current mode and online requirements.

- Standard Edition for PlayStation 5 (disc) includes the full Star Wars Zero Company game. Single-player turn-based tactics set in the twilight of the Clone Wars—lead Hawks and Zero Company in an intense campaign.
- Build your squad from clone troopers, scoundrels, astromechs and even a Jedi—combine abilities and gear in deep Tactical-Strategy combat.
- Plan at your base, adapt on dynamic battlefields and make decisions that shape missions and replayability in this cinematic Star Wars story.
- Customise Hawks and your operatives, tailor loadouts and unlock powerful squad synergies designed for Strategy, Turn-Based and Sci-Fi fans.
For online role-playing
The Old Republic is a story-driven MMORPG, a fit for someone who wants an online role-playing format and character options such as Jedi, Sith or Bounty Hunter. The official description calls it free-to-play, but that does not mean every optional feature or piece of content is free.
Check platform, edition and current availability
Once you have a likely match, look up the exact title in the store for your console or PC storefront. StarWars.com’s games directory is a useful catalog, but it is dynamic; a directory entry alone does not confirm that a particular edition is currently available to buy in your region.

- Play through all nine films in a new, fun filled adventure
- Confirm the platform and generation listed for the edition you plan to play.
- Check the regional store listing for current availability and price.
- For multiplayer, verify which modes are active for that edition and whether online access is required.
- For couch play, check specifically for offline split-screen rather than assuming multiplayer means local play.
- For free-to-play games, distinguish starting without an upfront purchase from optional purchases or subscriptions; total ownership cost is not established by a free-to-play label.
StarWars.com’s April 30, 2026 Star Wars Day roundup describes examples including free-to-play Brawlhalla and Galaxy of Heroes on mobile and EA app for PC. Its dated release and promotion details are not a current deal list, so check the relevant store rather than relying on that roundup for today’s price or availability.
