There is no required starting point in UFO 50: all 50 games are available from the beginning, and you can switch between them freely. Pick a first game by genre, time, and whether you’re playing solo or with someone else, then sample another if you want a different flavor. The official store page does not name one best game for newcomers.
How to choose your first UFO 50 game
Think of UFO 50 as a library to explore, not a campaign with an opening sequence. Its 50 complete games span platformers, shoot ’em ups, puzzle games, roguelites, RPGs, and more; their lengths vary widely. The collection’s open structure makes a few practical filters more useful than a prescribed order.

- Genre: Start with a type of game you already enjoy, whether that is action, platforming, puzzles, shooting, role-playing, strategy, or sports.
- Available time: Choose an arcade-style game for a shorter session, or set aside more time for a substantial adventure or RPG.
- Players: If you’re playing with others, look for a game marked for local co-op or versus. Half of the collection features local multiplayer, according to the UFO 50 Steam store listing.
- Continuity: Some games are connected by sequels and recurring characters. If you care about that fictional setting, try an earlier entry before a sequel.
- Appetite for experimentation: Some games lean on familiar genre conventions; others pair an 8-bit look with unusual ideas. This is a way to frame your preference, not an objective measure of difficulty.
Good starting points by mood
| What you want | Try | Why it fits |
|---|---|---|
| Arcade-style action | Seaside Drive | The Steam listing describes it as a straightforward arcade-style action game. |
| A longer role-playing adventure | Grimstone | The listing describes it as a full JRPG that may take many hours. |
| A game to play with other people | Pingolf | The listing describes it as golf combined with pinball and identifies it as a multiplayer example. |
| Exploring a connection between games | Campanella, then Campanella 2 | The listing identifies Campanella 2 as a sequel to Campanella; trying the earlier entry first is a continuity-minded choice, not an unlock requirement. |
These are starting suggestions based on the store descriptions, not a ranking. The available official material does not compare newcomer difficulty or establish a universally best first game.
A simple first-session plan
- Browse the in-game descriptions and choose a game in a genre you already like.
- Try a contrasting genre next—for example, switch from arcade action to a puzzle or strategy game—to get a sense of the collection’s range.
- If you’re playing with someone else, choose a title marked for local multiplayer and decide whether you want co-op or versus play.
- Give an unfamiliar game enough time to show you its rules, but move on if it is not clicking. You can return to it later; nothing needs to be unlocked first.
Why there is no one correct order
The official Steam description says, “All 50 games are available to play at the start!” It presents the collection as a set of complete experiences, rather than one long game divided into minigames. Designer Derek Yu has described UFO 50 as “an open-world game in its own right,” a characterization GamesRadar uses for the experience of exploring the library (GamesRadar). That framing suits a collection where the most useful next choice is often simply the game that sounds appealing now.

Where to play
UFO 50 is a 2024 game, and Mossmouth links to its Steam and Switch availability on the developer’s site. Nintendo also has an official Switch store listing. GamesRadar reported a physical collector’s edition with a strategy guide and preorder availability through Fangamer in August 2025 (GamesRadar’s report); that report does not establish current stock or regional availability, so check the relevant store listing for current details.
