What tech points do in Soulmask
Soulmask uses two separate progression checks for its technology tree. Your Mask Awareness, also described as the Awareness Strength gate in progression references, controls the technology level that is available to you. Knowledge/Technology Points are the currency that unlocks a particular recipe or node once you meet that level requirement.

That distinction explains the most common misunderstanding: gaining Awareness does not itself hand you a spendable bundle of tech points. It opens the door to a higher level. Tablets supply the points you use after the door is open.

The menu is called Knowledge and Technology. Press T to inspect available branches, see locked requirements and purchase recipes or blueprints.
Where the points come from: Ancient and Divine Tablets
Ancient Tablets and Divine Tablets are the key collectible source of Knowledge/Technology Points. Interact with a tablet, decipher its inscription and the resulting Knowledge Points become available in the technology tree.
Tablets commonly appear in or around the following structures:
- On the walls of Mysterious Ruins.
- Inside Ancient Dungeons.
- Inside Holy Ruins.
- At the base of Temple Guardian pyramids.
The Ancient Tablet reference describes the tablet locations and interaction. You do not need to search every wall at random: open the world map and look for the yellow, gravestone-shaped tablet icons. Those markers identify tablet sites and let you plan a route through nearby ruins and major structures.
What to expect at a tablet site
- Open the world map.
- Identify a yellow tablet marker, especially one near a Mysterious Ruin, Ancient Dungeon, Holy Ruin or Temple Guardian pyramid.
- Travel to the marker and locate the tablet in the structure or at its base.
- Interact with it and choose the option to decipher the inscription.
- Return to the Knowledge and Technology menu to spend the awarded points.
The available evidence establishes tablets as the source, but it does not establish one universal points-per-tablet amount. Treat every deciphered tablet as progress without planning around an assumed fixed yield.

A practical route for getting more tech points
Use this sequence when your next recipe is blocked or your current branch has run out of useful purchases.

Continue ordinary progression until your Mask Awareness allows the technology level you want. The tech tree can show a node that is visible but still unavailable because the awareness requirement has not been met. In that case, collecting more tablets will give you currency, but it will not bypass the level gate.
2. Choose a target before leaving your base
Press T and identify the exact tool, weapon, workstation, building or production recipe you are trying to reach. Follow its prerequisite links backward. This prevents a common waste pattern: spending points on an attractive side branch and then discovering that the required workstation still sits several nodes away.
3. Mark a compact group of tablet locations
On the map, prioritize yellow tablet icons that can be reached in one trip. Ruins, dungeons, holy sites and Temple Guardian pyramids are natural clusters to check because tablets commonly occur there. A cluster route reduces the time spent returning to the same region and gives you several deciphering opportunities before you reopen the tree.
4. Decipher every tablet you reach
Do not confuse finding a marker with receiving the reward. The point-producing action is interacting with the tablet and deciphering its inscription. After the interaction completes, check the technology menu so you know the points are available before committing them.

5. Buy only the path that supports your next milestone
Unlock prerequisite nodes in order, then purchase the recipe that changes what you can do next. For example, if your immediate goal is a new production step, favor the required workstation and its linked recipes over an unrelated weapon branch. The tree is large enough that short-term usefulness matters more than collecting every visible option.
6. Repeat the map-and-tree cycle
When a later node is still locked, determine whether the problem is a missing tablet-derived point total, an unmet prerequisite or an insufficient Awareness level. Each cause has a different fix; repeatedly farming tablets will not solve a level restriction, and raising Awareness will not pay for a node.
Why you cannot unlock the next technology
A locked technology normally falls into one of three categories. Read the requirement shown in the Knowledge and Technology menu before changing your route.

When the node is visible but greyed out
Visibility is not the same as eligibility. The tree can display later-era technologies so you can see the progression path while still preventing purchase until Awareness and prerequisite conditions are satisfied. Check the node’s stated requirements rather than assuming that a larger point balance will solve it.

Look for an Awareness or prerequisite warning. Points are a payment resource, not a replacement for the tier gate. If the warning names another technology, purchase that earlier node; if it names Mask Awareness, return to normal progression instead of searching for more tablets.

How bonfire-era tiers shape your choices
The technology menu is arranged into bonfire-era technology tiers. A later tier can contain the item you want, but you must satisfy the tier’s Awareness requirement and buy the connecting prerequisites.
Use this order when evaluating a branch:
- Tier timing: Is the node usable at your current Awareness and bonfire tier, or will it remain locked until a later stage?
- Prerequisite depth: How many earlier nodes and how many points stand between you and the target?
- Immediate usefulness: Does the purchase unlock the next tool, weapon, building, workstation or production step you need?
- Opportunity cost: Will this spend delay a more important branch, and would reversing it require a respec later?
This approach is more reliable than buying in visual order. A nearby icon is not automatically a good purchase if it does not advance your current base or equipment plan.

What to unlock first
There is no single correct tree order for every character or server. Use your immediate bottleneck as the deciding factor.

Use the tree as a checklist, not a shopping catalogue
Before spending, write down the target node and every prerequisite shown between it and your current position. Then compare the total path with your available points. If a tablet run is needed, collect first and spend once you can complete the useful chain; partial purchases that do not unlock anything immediately may leave you unable to finish the branch you actually need.

A respec can be useful when earlier purchases no longer fit your equipment or base plan, but it should be treated as a limited recovery tool rather than a routine way to experiment.

A Steam community discussion reports that the first reset may be free and later resets may become costly. That is player testimony, not an official guarantee, and reset behavior can vary by current build or server. When a reset makes sense
- You invested in a branch that does not support your current equipment or production goal.
- A prerequisite route has changed and you need to recover points for a nearer milestone.
- You understand which nodes must be repurchased after the reset and have a specific replacement plan.
When to keep your current allocation
- The only problem is low Awareness; a reset cannot raise that gate.
- You have not yet checked whether the missing requirement is simply another prerequisite.
- You would be resetting without enough tablet-derived points to buy the replacement path.
Because the cost behavior is not documented here as a universal rule, read the in-game confirmation carefully and avoid assuming that every reset after the first has the same price.
How large is the technology tree?
The Soulmask Database lists 773 technologies across 35 mask levels. Its reference separates Survival, Warrior and Tribe views, so the exact nodes and requirements you see depend on the selected mode and the game’s current version: Soulmask Database technology tree.
That scale is the reason a focused route matters. You are not expected to purchase every technology before progressing. Use the database as a planning reference when you need to inspect a prerequisite chain, then confirm the actual requirement in your current in-game menu because updates and mode differences can change the displayed tree.
Tablet-hunting checklist
- Raise Mask Awareness enough for the technology level you intend to use.
- Press T and identify one concrete target node.
- Trace its prerequisites before spending any points.
- Open the map and prioritize yellow gravestone-shaped tablet markers.
- Search Mysterious Ruins, Ancient Dungeons, Holy Ruins and Temple Guardian pyramid bases first.
- Interact with each tablet and decipher the inscription; merely visiting the marker does not award points.
- Return to the Knowledge and Technology menu and verify the point balance.
- Unlock the prerequisite chain and the recipe that advances your next milestone.
- If the node is still locked, distinguish an Awareness restriction from a point cost or missing prerequisite.
- Consider a respec only after checking its current in-game cost and preparing a replacement route.
