Collect it before defeating Captain Wise-Voice: any Wardens left alive disappear after the boss, closing the route for that playthrough. Its Cloud Step effect raises Attack but massively reduces Maximum Health, so it is a high-risk option rather than a straightforward upgrade.
What the Auspicious Lantern does
The Curio’s listed effect is: “Inflicts chants-beguiled effect to the bearer in Cloud Step; Moderately increases Attack, but massively reduces Maximum Health.” The game’s item description is “Auspicious light, no omens in sight.” Wukong Wiki’s Auspicious Lantern entry lists the item as Rare.
The Attack increase comes with a major survivability cost while using Cloud Step. The published effect description does not give numerical values for either modifier, so there is no supported percentage or exact stat change to apply to a build calculation.
How to get it: defeat all nine Lantern Wardens
Defeat nine Lantern Wardens across Lower and Upper Pagoda. The route positions below follow the sequence listed by Wukong Wiki.

- Starting path: Find the first two Wardens on the path before reaching the Lower Pagoda Shrine.
- Lower Pagoda, first floor: After the shrine, locate the third and fourth Wardens on the first floor.
- Upper Pagoda Shrine level: The fifth Warden is on the floor with the Upper Pagoda Shrine.
- Across the beam bridge: Cross the bridge on that Upper Pagoda level to find the sixth, seventh, and eighth Wardens.
- From Mani Wheel Shrine: At the Mani Wheel Shrine level, take the route away from the shrine, drop down, and continue through the area to reach the ninth Warden.
Defeat the Wardens before Captain Wise-Voice
Captain Wise-Voice is the cutoff. If you defeat him while any Lantern Wardens remain, those enemies disappear and the Curio route closes for that playthrough. Clear the Warden route first, then fight the Captain. The Black Myth Guide Captain Wise-Voice walkthrough, updated April 24, 2026, also advises finishing Warden cleanup before the boss.

The prisoner’s Captain Spirits task is separate from the Auspicious Lantern requirement. The prisoner is in the second prison cell near the beginning of Pagoda Realm; that quest asks you to collect four Captain Spirits across Chapter 3 and return them to him for a Chubai Spearhead crafting material. Those Spirits are not Lantern Wardens, and completing that task is not the condition for earning the Curio. PowerPyx’s prisoner quest guide describes the separate objective and reward.
