Batman: Arkham Shadow got its first gameplay trailer during Gamescom Opening Night Live on August 20, 2024. The footage showed how Camouflaj is adapting Arkham combat and stealth for first-person VR, with Batman fighting, sneaking and using Detective Vision in Gotham. Its story is set between Arkham Origins and Arkham Asylum, with the Rat King emerging as the threat.
What the Gamescom gameplay trailer showed
The trailer made the shift to first-person VR the central point of the reveal. Batman punches enemies, attacks with Batarangs, chains moves together and uses stealth while moving through detailed levels inspired by the Arkham games. Detective Vision and traversal also feature in the footage. GameSpot’s August 20, 2024 coverage describes the footage as a look at how familiar Arkham-style action translates to a VR perspective.
The combat still draws on the series’ mix of timed attacks and stealth, but the camera places the player in Batman’s view rather than behind him. That makes the trailer a first look at the game’s VR presentation, not a confirmation that it plays like a conventional third-person Arkham entry.
Where Arkham Shadow fits in the story
The official Meta Quest trailer description places Arkham Shadow between Batman: Arkham Origins and Batman: Arkham Asylum. It identifies the Rat King as the central threat. GameSpot’s report describes him as an enemy leading a cult and notes that the trailer ends with Batman meeting Otis Flanagan.

Meta’s description also names Harleen Quinzel, Jim Gordon, Harvey Dent and Dr. Crane among returning characters. That is the publisher’s description of the game’s cast; it does not establish that each character appears in the gameplay footage.
Which headsets support the game?
At the Gamescom reveal, the trailer description said Arkham Shadow was “Only on Meta Quest 3.” Later, Camouflaj’s launch announcement and the DC game listing identified both Meta Quest 3 and Quest 3S as supported headsets. The reveal-era wording should not be read as the final hardware list: the official material cited for the released game names Quest 3 and Quest 3S, not Quest 2 or non-Quest platforms.
