Complete Angler fishing quests to earn the Bottomless Water Bucket, Terraria’s item for placing water without running out. It can appear as a random reward after your 10th completed quest, with a 1/70 (1.43%) chance per quest; the 25th completed quest guarantees it, according to the Official Terraria Wiki.

How the Angler reward works

Find the Angler and complete his fishing quests. After you have completed 10 quests, each subsequent quest has a 1/70 (1.43%) chance to award the Bottomless Water Bucket. That is a chance, not a promise: you may receive it before quest 25, or continue without receiving it until the guaranteed milestone.

Complete 25 quests for the stated guarantee. The reward chance and milestone are listed on the Official Terraria Wiki’s Angler page and its Bottomless Buckets page.

Random chance or guaranteed reward?

Quest progress What to expect
After the 10th completed quest Each eligible quest has a 1/70 (1.43%) chance of awarding the bucket.
25th completed quest The bucket is guaranteed, as documented by the Official Terraria Wiki.

If you want certainty, keep completing quests until the 25th. The random chance gives you a possibility of getting it sooner, but does not establish how many quests you will need before then.

#1 Best Overall
Two Point Hospital - Nintendo Switch
  • Build up a hospital from nothing to a masterpiece as you design the most beautiful – or functional – healthcare operation in the whole of Two Point County.
  • Optimise your hospital design to increase patient (and cash) flow, arranging corridors, rooms and waiting areas to your exact specifications.
  • Expand your hospital to multiple buildings as you look to get as many patients through the door as possible.
  • Place decorative and functional items around your hospital to improve its prestige, lower patient boredom, increase happiness and keep those end of year awards flowing in.
  • Features two great expansions, 21 hospitals and 119 very unusual illnesses!

What the Bottomless Water Bucket does

The item places water without being depleted, so you can use it repeatedly as a water source. Its tooltip, reproduced by the Official Terraria Wiki, reads: “Contains an endless amount of water.” A standard bucket, by contrast, holds one tile of liquid and is emptied when you deposit it; see the wiki’s Buckets page.

Version and platform context

The Official Terraria Wiki identifies the bucket information as applying to Desktop, Console, and Mobile. Its history records that Desktop 1.4.4 made the 25th-quest guarantee available and allowed the item to be obtained in pre-Hardmode. Those are Desktop version-history details, so they should not be read as a claim that every platform received the changes on the same release schedule.
