It depends on which animations you mean. To stop your avatar from copying your movements through the camera, turn off avatar animation from the Camera icon in the Roblox menu inside an experience. To change the default walking, jumping, idle, or other character animations in a game you create, use Roblox Studio’s Avatar Settings or replace specific animations with scripts. Roblox does not document a universal, official switch that turns off all character animations.
Turn off camera-driven avatar animation as a player
If you mean that your Roblox avatar mirrors your movements, open the Roblox menu while you are inside an experience and select the Camera icon to disable avatar animation. Roblox describes this feature for experiences that support camera and microphone communication. See Roblox Support’s instructions for using animation capture.
This setting controls the avatar-animation feature driven by your movements. It does not disable a game’s ordinary walk, run, jump, or idle animations.
Change character animations in an experience you create
In Roblox Studio, open Avatar Settings and adjust the movement animation settings. This changes the defaults for avatars in your experience; it is not a setting for changing animations across Roblox games.

Choose an animation pack
The available pack modes are Player Choice, Standard R15, and Standard R6. Player Choice uses the animation pack equipped by the player, while Standard R15 and Standard R6 force the corresponding standard set. These options select an animation set; none is an off switch. Roblox documents the controls in Avatar Settings and the corresponding AvatarSettingsAnimationType enum.
Set custom clips
Use the Custom Clips controls in Avatar Settings to enter and preview custom animation IDs for supported animation types. Roblox recommends previewing and playtesting changes because these settings modify the experience’s defaults. For custom animations you still need to create and publish clips; the Animation Editor is available from Studio’s Avatar tab or Window > Avatar menu.

Replace only the animations you want to change
If you want to alter a particular movement rather than switch animation packs, Roblox documents replacing default animation asset IDs through a script. The documented animation types include run, walk, jump, idle, fall, swim, swim idle, and climb. The Use animations guide explains the replacement approach, and Play character animations walks through customizing animations on player characters.
This is the more targeted route when, for example, you want a custom walk but want the rest of the default character behavior to remain. Roblox’s default character animations otherwise include common movements such as running, climbing, swimming, and jumping.

Can you remove all default character animations?
A community tutorial posted on the Roblox Developer Forum on January 21, 2025, suggests placing an empty LocalScript named Animate in StarterCharacterScripts for an R6 player rig. The author presents it as a way to avoid built-in character animation functionality. This is community guidance, not an official, universally supported Roblox setting; the official Creator Hub guidance covers changing or replacing animations instead.
If you try the workaround, test it in Studio with the rig and experience you intend to use. Do not assume it will work for every rig or remove every animation behavior. See the Developer Forum tutorial.
