After defeating the Chimera in Phantom Liberty’s “Spider and the Fly,” pick up the Active Chimera Core from the floor beside the wreck before leaving the arena. It is not loot on the boss’s body. If you miss it, the next quest, “Lucretia My Reflection,” includes an optional objective pointing you back to it.
How to pick up the Active Chimera Core
- Defeat the Chimera during “Spider and the Fly.”
- Before leaving the arena, search the ground around the destroyed machine, especially beside the wreck. The Core is a floor pickup, not an item on the Chimera’s body.
- Interact with the Active Chimera Core to collect it.
If you move on without collecting it, “Lucretia My Reflection” has an optional objective that can direct you back to the pickup. This location and quest reminder are described in Shacknews’s 2023 guide.

Should you take the Core?
Yes, unless you specifically prefer not to keep it for crafting or display. Guides report no story consequence for taking the Core; that assessment comes from those guides, rather than an official developer confirmation. They also describe one Active Chimera Core per playthrough, so collecting it preserves the choices below. Shacknews and PC Gamer cover its uses.
What can you do with the Chimera Core?
Keep it to display on the table in V’s initial apartment in Megabuilding H10, or use it to craft one of four Iconic weapon mods. The guides describe the Core becoming inactive after crafting, at which point it can also be displayed. They report that a crafted mod can be removed from its weapon without being destroyed.

These effects are reported by 2023 gameplay guides, not verified here against an official current patch note. The guides describe one Core per playthrough, so do not assume you can craft all four mods from a single Core.

There is no universally best choice established by the guides. Match the mod to the weapon class you use and the effect you want:
- Choose Firecracker for explosive rounds from a Power weapon.
- Choose Hackatomy for a chance to apply quickhack effects with a Smart weapon.
- Choose Severance for melee dismemberment or the reported kill potential against weakened enemies.
- Choose Wallpuncher to improve a Tech weapon’s charged shots and armor penetration.
