To get the Fanaticism Helm Rune through its quest, first complete the Sheath of Light Rune. Then speak to Aeonas the Vindicated and Katherine the Pure in Stormwind Cathedral, travel to the Theramore Inn to confront Elrick, and return to Katherine with the Bloody Missive. You can also buy the rune from a Rune Broker, though learning it from a vendor item may interfere with some related discoveries or rune quests.
Get Fanaticism through the quest chain
- Complete Sheath of Light. Aeonas the Vindicated will not appear in Stormwind Cathedral until you have completed the Sheath of Light Rune.
- Start the quest in Stormwind. At Stormwind Cathedral, speak with Aeonas the Vindicated, then Katherine the Pure. Accept The Mysterious Merchant.
- Travel to the Theramore Inn. Speak with Elrick and turn in The Mysterious Merchant. Accept Elrick, Paladin of the Silver Hand from him.
- Defeat Elrick and his Stern-faced Bar Patron. Elrick drops the Bloody Missive. Click the missive to begin The Bloody Missive, which sends you back to Katherine.
- Return to Stormwind Cathedral. Turn in The Bloody Missive to Katherine the Pure to receive Fanaticism.
Group looting: Only one member of a group can loot the Bloody Missive directly from Elrick. Other Paladins in the group can get additional copies from the Theramore Innkeeper.
Buy Fanaticism from a Rune Broker instead
The Wowhead guide, which displays Patch 1.15.8, says all Season of Discovery class runes and class skill books can be purchased from Rune Brokers in each race’s main city. This is a separate in-game route if you prefer not to complete the discovery quest. The guide cautions that learning a rune ability from a vendor item may prevent some related discoveries or rune-related quests from functioning properly, so consider that risk if you are pursuing them.

What the Fanaticism Rune does
Fanaticism is a Paladin rune for the Helm slot. Its spell record says it increases critical strike chance with Holy spells by 18%. Critical healing spells also heal the target for 60% of the amount healed over 12 seconds. These are in-game mechanics listed in the Fanaticism spell record. Wowhead lists DPS, healer, and tank among recommended roles, but those labels are not a comparative ranking or a build recommendation.

- Follow the quest chain if you want the discovery quest progress and its storyline.
