Which WoW Classic version are you playing?
The acquisition method depends on the version. The regular Classic recipe is taught to Goblin Engineers by a trainer. The separate Season of Discovery schematic adds a cross-specialization route, allowing Gnomish Engineers to obtain it through a quest and ticket. The Season of Discovery schematic was added in patch 1.15.2, dated April 2, 2024, according to the Warcraft Wiki item entry.
Traditional Classic: learn Goblin Engineering
- Choose the Goblin Engineering specialization.
- Raise Engineering to 205.
- Visit a Goblin Engineering trainer and learn Goblin Sapper Charge.
The recipe’s source in the broader Classic listing is a Goblin Engineering trainer; see the Wowhead Classic recipe page. The 205 skill requirement is for learning or crafting the recipe, not for using a charge that has already been made.
Season of Discovery: Gnomish Engineer cross-specialization route
In Season of Discovery, a Gnomish Engineer can obtain the Goblin schematic without switching to Goblin Engineering. First reach Engineering 225 and choose a specialization; then complete the cross-specialization quest chain through Hush Money. That final quest awards one Engineering Exchange Ticket and can be completed weekly, according to the Wowhead Season of Discovery Engineering guide.

- Start Gnomish Solutions with Fizzbizz Coppercoil and follow the relevant specialization quest chain.
- Complete its objectives, including the Thunderstomp Stegodon Horn and the Box of Scarlet Dye in Hearthglen. Details and NPCs vary with your chosen specialization, so follow the branch for your character.
- Complete Hush Money to earn an Engineering Exchange Ticket.
- Take the ticket to Maximillian “The Greaser” in Thousand Needles and buy the Goblin Sapper Charge schematic for one ticket.
The schematic listing identifies this as a Season of Discovery-only item and names Maximillian as its seller after the Hush Money unlock: Warcraft Wiki: Goblin Sapper Charge. The quest reward and seller details are also listed on Wowhead’s Maximillian “The Greaser” page.

The charge damages nearby enemies and also harms its user. Database damage values differ between version-specific listings, so check the item details for your current game version rather than relying on a single damage figure.
If you only want to use a charge
You do not need to learn the recipe just to use a charge another player has crafted. You can check player trade or your server’s in-game auction house, but availability and prices vary by server and version.

Do not confuse it with the old Craftsman’s Writ
The older Craftsman’s Writ – Goblin Sapper Charge quest asks for 20 charges, but it is marked obsolete and is not the Season of Discovery schematic unlock. See the Wowhead quest entry.
