The GRAU is the SWAT 5.56 Grau Conversion, a Fire Mod that changes the SWAT 5.56 into a fully automatic weapon. It originally appeared on Page 5 of the Season 03 Premium Battle Pass. If you missed it, check the in-game Armory: the conversion is listed as an Armory Unlock in community weapon data, but its current availability and exact challenge requirement should be confirmed in your game.
What the GRAU is in Black Ops 6 and Warzone
The GRAU is not a separate base weapon. It is a Fire Mod for the SWAT 5.56. Activision describes the conversion as changing the rifle to fully automatic fire, with lower damage and range in exchange for improved accuracy, mobility, and handling. It also equips a new default barrel and magazine, unlocks an exclusive 50-round extended magazine, and prevents barrel attachments from being equipped. Activision’s Season 03 announcement gives the original item description.

The conversion is usable in Warzone as well as Black Ops 6; the official Season 03 Warzone patch notes included it in a recommended loadout.
How the GRAU was originally unlocked
During Season 03, the SWAT 5.56 Grau Conversion was a Premium Battle Pass reward on Page 5. That is its historical unlock route; it does not mean the old pass can still be claimed.

How to check whether you can still unlock it
For players who missed the Battle Pass, the Armory is the place to check. Official guidance describes Armory Challenges as a way to unlock some missed seasonal items, and community weapon data lists the Grau Conversion as an Armory Unlock. However, the available current official season information does not specifically confirm this Season 03 Fire Mod’s status or its XP requirement. Use the challenge shown in your game rather than relying on an assumed amount.
- Open the game’s Armory.
- Look for the SWAT 5.56 Grau Conversion, either under Fire Mods or among missed-content unlocks. Menu labels and placement can vary by update or mode.
- If the conversion appears with an unlock challenge, select or activate that challenge and check its displayed requirement.
- Earn the XP or complete the requirement shown in-game through eligible gameplay.
- Once unlocked, equip the conversion on the SWAT 5.56 in the weapon’s Fire Mods or attachment options.
Official Armory explanations cover the general missed-content mechanic, while the current-season statement in the available Season 05 announcement specifically discusses missed Season 05 weekly challenge items, not this Season 03 Battle Pass reward. So if the conversion does not appear in your Armory, the sources do not establish another guaranteed route.

What changes when you equip the conversion
The Fire Mod swaps the SWAT 5.56’s usual firing behavior for full-auto fire and shifts its stated tradeoffs: less damage and range, but better accuracy, mobility, and handling. The official description is qualitative; it does not establish whether the conversion is stronger in the current meta. Its new default barrel and magazine, exclusive 50-round magazine, and barrel-attachment restriction also affect how you build the weapon.
