To start The Hand of Fate in World of Warcraft, check Archmage Khadgar in Dalaran. The quest may appear automatically; if it does not, speak to him and check your Broken Shore introduction progress. Alliance players head to Stormwind Harbor, while Horde players head to Bladefist Bay. The quest record lists level 45, but reported prerequisites can vary by character and game mode.
Where to start The Hand of Fate
The Hand of Fate begins the route into the Argus campaign. The quest is listed at level 45. If it has not appeared automatically, find Archmage Khadgar in Dalaran and check whether he offers it. Wowhead’s quest record lists the start as automatic or from Khadgar.

After meeting the escort, the quest sends you onward with the expedition toward Azuremyst and the Argus campaign. A January 13, 2025 hotfix note on the quest record says the quest should provide a boat to reach Azuremyst.

If Khadgar does not offer the quest
- Return to Khadgar in Dalaran and check for the quest, even if it did not appear automatically.
- Review whether your character has completed the Broken Shore introduction. Player reports on the Blizzard forum describe completing that introduction and then returning to Khadgar.
- If you are playing Legion Remix, account for mode-specific reports: Wowhead’s Alliance entry mentions the Broken Shore scenario for Legion Remix players trying to turn in the quest.
These reports do not establish one prerequisite chain that applies to every character. If the quest remains unavailable after checking the introduction and Khadgar, your character’s earlier Legion progress or game mode may be relevant.

Make sure you have the right Hand of Fate
This is the World of Warcraft quest that starts the Argus route. It is not the similarly named weapon in The Blood of Dawnwalker.
