To earn the Needlepoint Badge in PEAK, get five cacti stuck to your character—not just one in your hand. The requirement is dangerous: the community-maintained PEAK Wiki says reaching five causes you to lose consciousness, so remove the cacti at the last moment. The badge unlocks the Sun Hat.
What you need to do
The badge criterion is to have five cacti stuck to your character. A cactus you are carrying does not count. The PEAK Wiki’s badge listing gives those details; it is community-maintained, not an official developer source.
Where to find cacti and how to attempt it
Look for small cacti in the Mesa, as described in PC Gamer’s Needlepoint Badge guide. The practical challenge is to reach five attached cacti without staying exposed long enough to lose consciousness.
- Head to the Mesa and locate small cacti.
- Let cacti stick to your character until five are attached. Holding a cactus in your hand does not satisfy the requirement.
- Remove the cacti at the last moment. The wiki says you can pick them off alone or get help from other players; the sources do not establish an exact safe timing window.
The badge reference warns that accumulating the five cacti causes loss of consciousness. Treat the removal advice as a risky practical method, not a guaranteed timing trick.

The wiki says badges are available on all difficulties, including Tenderfoot, except Undead Encounter and Mentorship. Needlepoint is not one of those exceptions, so it can be pursued on Tenderfoot. Badges cannot be earned on Custom Expeditions.
The Needlepoint Badge rewards the Sun Hat cosmetic. The wiki records the badge as introduced in patch 1.20.a on August 11, 2025.
