To get the Ray Gun Mark II for sure on Shattered Veil, solve the Floppy Disk and chalkboard code puzzle, defeat the Doppelghast in the Service Tunnel, then use its Severed Arm to open the weapon case in the Project Janus Armory. The Mystery Box can also give you the weapon, but that is chance-based.

- Find the Lab Technician. From round 10 onward, look for this special zombie in the Mainframe Chamber and kill it. It drops a Floppy Disk, according to PC Gamer’s Shattered Veil guide.
- Get the fax message. Take the Floppy Disk to the computer in the East Foyer and interact with it. Defend yourself against the zombies it summons, then collect the fax message. It gives you a four-letter word for this match.
- Turn the word into a code. Go to the Nursery and locate each of the word’s letters among the chalkboard clusters. For each letter, count how many letters are in its cluster. Write down the four counts in the word’s order; those digits form the keypad code. The code varies by match, so there is no single universal code to enter.
- Open the Service Tunnel chamber. Enter your four-digit code at the locked chamber. A Doppelghast is inside; defeat it to obtain a Severed Arm.
- Open the Ray Gun Mark II case. Carry the arm to the Project Janus Armory in the Supply Depot and use it at the scanner beside the Ray Gun Mark II display case.
This route is laid out in PC Gamer’s guide and Gameranx’s guide. Follow the match’s fax and chalkboard clues rather than relying on a code from another run.
Can you get it from the Mystery Box?
Yes. The Mystery Box can produce the Ray Gun Mark II by chance, but it is not a guaranteed way to skip the quest. If you want a dependable route to the weapon, complete the Floppy Disk puzzle and arm-scanner steps instead.

What the Ray Gun Mark II does
Activision describes the Ray Gun Mark II as a Wonder Weapon that fires three-round energy bursts, can be Pack-a-Punched, and can be used for melee when ammunition is low. Shattered Veil has three variants, each with its own firing pattern and special effect:
| Variant | Firing pattern | Special effect |
|---|---|---|
| Mark II-W | SMG-like bullet pattern | Has a chance to ignite enemies |
| Mark II-P | Shotgun-like pattern | Can create a sigil that grants temporary invulnerability to a player standing on it |
| Mark II-R | Marksman-rifle-like pattern | Can spread a plague infection that deals area damage |
These variant descriptions come from Activision’s Shattered Veil map guide. The descriptions distinguish how the weapons fire and what effects they may trigger; they do not establish that one variant is the strongest.
