The quickest documented way to get the Mage’s Spell Power Rune in WoW Classic Season of Discovery is to buy it from a Rune Broker in your faction’s capital. It equips in the Boots rune slot and increases the critical strike damage bonus of all spells by 50%.
Buy Spell Power from a Rune Broker
The Mage rune guide lists Rune Brokers in each faction’s capital cities as a way to purchase class runes and skill books. You can also seek runes through discovery, but buying is the direct route.
Alliance locations
- Darnassus: Temple Gardens, at 53.8, 13.6.
- Ironforge: The Forlorn Cavern, at 53.8, 13.6.
- Stormwind City: The Dwarven District, at 57.6, 27.0.
Horde locations
- Orgrimmar: Cleft of Shadow, at 49.6, 46.2.
- Thunder Bluff: Spirit Rise, at 22.8, 13.8.
- Undercity: The Magic Quarter, at 79.8, 19.0.
Coordinates are game-map coordinates; an in-game map tool or /way addon can help you navigate to them. These locations are listed in a guide labeled Patch 1.15.8 and updated December 18, 2024. NPC placement or city layouts may differ in a later phase or on your server, so check the current game client if the broker is not where expected. Source: Wowhead Mage Rune Guide.
Prefer the original book-discovery route?
Spell Power was originally unlocked by collecting books and turning them in to a faction librarian. A search-result summary from Warcraft Tavern says the task requires 20 different books, but its full guide could not be verified here. The available information does not establish a complete book list, exact turn-in NPC location, or whether the hand-in is currently available for every character.

If you want to complete the discovery task, check an up-to-date in-game reference and confirm the quest is available before traveling. The Mage guide also warns generally that some rune discoveries or related quests may not function properly after learning the related ability from a Rune Broker. It does not confirm that this warning applies specifically to Spell Power, so verify its behavior before buying if preserving this discovery route matters to you.
