The Vault Key route involving Bushranger was a Chapter 6 Season 1 method: carry a Sprite, ask Bushranger for the “Show Item” service, then use the resulting key at the underground vault east of Nightshift Forest. The item was later renamed the Solunar Key and is reported vaulted in Battle Royale and Zero Build as of Update v34.00, so this is a historical walkthrough—not a confirmed way to get a key in the live game.
How the Bushranger Vault Key route worked
In Chapter 6 Season 1, Bushranger could exchange a Sprite for the item originally called the Vault Key. It was later renamed Solunar Key. The steps below describe that season’s route; current availability of the exchange is unverified.
- Find and carry a Sprite. You needed to have one with you when you interacted with Bushranger.
- Look for Bushranger around Nightshift Forest. The historical walkthrough describes three possible locations near fox shrine areas. One was south of the piers and directly south of the vault. Look for a dialogue icon as you approach. Destructoid’s Chapter 6 Season 1 walkthrough covers the route.
- Choose “Show Item.” Interact with Bushranger while carrying the Sprite and select the “Show Item” service to receive the key.
- Go to the vault east of Nightshift Forest. It was underground; the entrance was down a staircase near the large building or main castle area.
- Use the key at the entrance. The historical walkthrough reports that the vault contained a Typhoon Blade, rare chests, and Slurp barrels. Those rewards are specific to that season and may not reflect the current game.
Where to find Bushranger and the vault
Bushranger
Bushranger had three possible spots around Nightshift Forest in the historical route. Check the fox shrine areas, including the area south of the piers and south of the vault, and watch for the dialogue marker. Exact NPC placements and availability should not be assumed to persist across seasons.
The Nightshift Forest vault
The vault was east of Nightshift Forest, below ground. Look for stairs near the large building or main castle area to reach its entrance. This location refers to the Chapter 6 Season 1 vault, not every vault in later Fortnite seasons.

Can you still get the Solunar Key this way?
The community-maintained Solunar Key item reference records that the item was introduced in Chapter 6 Season 1, renamed from “Vault Key” to “Solunar Key” in Update v33.10, and vaulted in Battle Royale and Zero Build as of Update v34.00. That means the old Sprite-for-key exchange should not be presented as a currently working route. The cited sources do not verify whether Bushranger’s exchange has returned since.

Chapter 7 Season 3 guides describe different key systems: Rare Vault Keys for Renegade Vaults and Epic Vault Keycards for Sprite Vaults.
