To join the Thieves Guild in Oblivion Remastered, find the Gray Fox wanted poster, ask a beggar about him, then meet Armand Christophe at the Garden of Dareloth in the Imperial City Waterfront at midnight. Armand asks you to complete May the Best Thief Win: steal Amantius Allectus’ diary and return it to him.
Find the Gray Fox and arrange the meeting
- Read a Gray Fox wanted poster. Find one in an Imperial City district to unlock the conversation topic.
- Ask a beggar about the Gray Fox. In the Market District, speak with Simplicia the Slow; at the Waterfront, try Puny Ancus. Raise the beggar’s disposition to at least 70, ask about the Gray Fox, and agree that you want to work with him. PC Gamer’s Remastered guide gives this disposition threshold.
- Go to the Garden of Dareloth at midnight. It is in the Imperial City Waterfront. If you arrive at the wrong time, wait or sleep nearby until midnight in-game. Bethesda Support also identifies Armand Christophe at the Waterfront at midnight as the contact to find.
Speak with Armand Christophe
At the garden, choose the Gray Fox dialogue option. Raise Armand’s disposition to at least 50, then select “Join the Thieves Guild.” The thresholds above are reported in PC Gamer’s guide for Oblivion Remastered.
Complete the initiation quest
Steal Amantius Allectus’ diary
Armand gives you May the Best Thief Win. Amantius Allectus’ house is on the east side of the Temple District; the diary is on a desk inside. Take it and return it to Armand to complete the trial and join the guild.
If Methredhel takes the diary first
Methredhel may reach the diary before you. PC Gamer’s walkthrough says you can pickpocket it from her, or wait until she deposits it in her house and goes to sleep, then break in and take it from her chest. See the guide’s diary recovery steps.

Other ways to learn about the guild
The wanted-poster-and-beggar route is not the only way to get directed to the Waterfront meeting. Gameranx’s guide describes two alternatives:
- Get caught committing a crime and serve prison time; a recruiter may approach you afterward.
- Speak with City-Swimmer in Bravil and ask about the Thieves Guild and the Gray Fox.
These routes also point you toward the Waterfront meeting with Armand at midnight.
