Thunder Tail is an Epic special crafting material obtained from a chest after defeating Red Loong in Black Myth: Wukong. To reach the boss, first get Loong Scales in Chapter 2, then open the waterfall near the Outside the Forest shrine in the Forest of Wolves.
What Thunder Tail is used for
Game8 classifies Thunder Tail as an Epic special crafting material and lists it as a material required to craft the Loongwreathe Staff. The guide does not list it as a requirement for any armor or spirits. Game8’s Thunder Tail guide was last updated August 29, 2024.
How to get Thunder Tail
- Obtain Loong Scales in Chapter 2. Gamer Guides describes getting the scales through the First Prince of the Flowing Sands cave route. See its Loong Scales quest guide, last updated March 12, 2025.
- Travel to the Outside the Forest shrine. It is in the Forest of Wolves. From the shrine, take the left fork toward the waterfall.
- Open the waterfall with Loong Scales. The Red Loong encounter is behind it.
- Defeat Red Loong, then open the chest that appears. Thunder Tail is a chest pickup after the fight; do not leave assuming it was automatically added when the boss fell. The Gamer Guides Thunder Tail entry describes this pickup.
Other rewards from Red Loong
The Loong Scales quest guide lists Boshan Censer, Loong Pearl, Mind Core, and Silk alongside Thunder Tail among the Red Loong rewards. Its reward listing does not establish a drop rate or guarantee beyond the described chest pickup.
