To reach Asgard in God of War Ragnarök, progress through the main story until Atreus’s journey takes him there. Asgard is not an early realm you can freely select for exploration. After the story, you can visit scattered Asgardian remnants in other realms through the Favor The Last Remnants of Asgard—but that is not a return to Asgard itself.
How do you get to Asgard in God of War Ragnarök?
Keep completing the main Path quests. The story takes Atreus to Asgard during the chapter The Runaway; you do not unlock the realm by finding a hidden gateway or by meeting an exploration or gear requirement. PlayStation describes the game as a journey through the Nine Realms while Atreus seeks answers about the prophecy of Loki. Its official pages establish that realm access is story-led, though they do not provide a chapter-by-chapter unlock walkthrough.

If you are choosing a version of the game, PlayStation lists God of War Ragnarök for PS5 and PS4, and says the physical Standard Edition contains the full game for either console. Owning the game does not bypass the story progression needed to reach Asgard. See PlayStation’s game page.
Can you go back to Asgard after Ragnarök?
No. Finishing the story does not open Asgard for free travel. After completing The Realms at War, the Favor The Last Remnants of Asgard becomes available. It directs you to remnants scattered across other realms, rather than back into Asgard. Push Square’s Favor walkthrough covers those post-game locations.

What if you are playing New Game+?
PlayStation says New Game+ becomes available after you beat the game. It does not remove progression gates: areas that require tools such as Sonic or Hex arrows or the Draupnir Spear remain inaccessible until the story makes those tools available. No separate gear unlock is required for the story visit. Exploration systems such as the Amulet of Yggdrasil and its Jewels improve how you equip enchantments; Santa Monica Studio explains that perks can activate when you equip three or more enchantments from one realm set.
