Reach Darnassus by traveling through Darkshore to Rut’theran Village in Modern WoW, or by taking the Alliance boat there in Classic-era WoW.

The route depends on which version of World of Warcraft you’re playing. In Modern WoW, travel through Darkshore to Rut’theran Village, changing Darkshore to its earlier timeline with Zidormi if needed, then take the portal to Darnassus. In Classic-era WoW, take the Alliance boat from Darkshore to Rut’theran Village and use the portal there.

First, identify your WoW version

Blizzard lists Modern WoW and multiple Classic modes as distinct ways to play. The routes differ: the Modern route may require a timeline change, while the Classic-era route uses the Alliance boat. Use the directions for the version your character is in.

Get to Darnassus in Modern WoW

  1. Travel to Darkshore. From Stormwind, look for the portal at the docks that leads to Darkshore, if it is available to your character. The portal may deposit you in Darkshore rather than directly in Darnassus.
  2. Change Darkshore’s timeline if necessary. If the zone appears ruined, find Zidormi and choose the earlier timeline. This restores access to the older Darkshore and Teldrassil route.
  3. Continue to Rut’theran Village. Reach the village at the base of Teldrassil. From Darkshore, the flight-master route is one way to get there.
  4. Enter the portal to Darnassus. The portal in Rut’theran Village is the final connection to the city.

These Modern WoW directions are based on player guidance in Blizzard’s WoW forums; portal access and zone state can vary with updates and character state.

If the Stormwind portal is missing

Check whether your character is in Chromie Time or another phase. In one Blizzard forum discussion, returning to the present resolved a missing portal for a player. Treat that as a troubleshooting clue, not a guaranteed fix for every character.

Get to Darnassus in Classic-era WoW

  1. Go to Darkshore.
  2. Board the Alliance boat to Rut’theran Village.
  3. Use the portal in Rut’theran Village to reach Darnassus.

Blizzard’s Classic transportation guide documents Alliance boats serving Darkshore and the boat to Rut’theran Village. Its Classic city tour of Darnassus identifies the city as the night elf capital.

Why the two routes are different

Rut’theran Village is the shared final connection: the Modern route reaches it through Darkshore and may require Zidormi’s timeline change, while the Classic-era route uses the Alliance boat. Zidormi’s timeline instructions apply to Modern WoW; don’t rely on them for a Classic-era character.
