In YouTube Studio, open Settings → Permissions, invite the person by email, and choose Manager if they need to manage streams and channel permissions. They must accept the invitation. YouTube delegates can start a live stream only from Live Control Room—not directly from an encoder.
Invite the manager in YouTube Studio
- Sign in to YouTube Studio with an account that can manage the channel’s permissions.
- In the left menu, select Settings, then Permissions.
- Select Invite, enter the person’s email address, and choose Manager from Access.
- Select Done. The invitee must accept the invitation before using the channel access.
You do not need to share the channel owner’s Google password. Role-based channel permissions let the invitee use their own Google Account sign-in. Invitations expire after 30 days. See YouTube’s instructions for managing channel permissions.
Choose the right access role
For the specific job of managing live streams, YouTube lists both Manager and Editor as roles that can manage live streams. Pick Manager when the person also needs to administer channel permissions; otherwise, Editor can manage live streams without managing permissions. A Viewer can monitor streams but cannot manage them.

How the delegate starts the stream
- After accepting the invitation, the delegate signs in to YouTube with the invited account and opens YouTube Studio.
- Select Create → Go Live to open Live Control Room.
- For an encoder broadcast, start the encoder’s feed and check the preview in Live Control Room. The operator then starts the broadcast there.
YouTube’s rule is specific: “At the moment, channel delegates can only start a live stream from YouTube Live Control Room.” An encoder can provide the video feed, but the delegate must use Live Control Room to start the broadcast. See YouTube’s live-streaming restriction guidance.
If Permissions or Invite is missing
If the channel still uses Brand Account access, YouTube says the owner must migrate to channel permissions before using the invitation workflow described above. Follow YouTube’s Brand Account migration instructions.

If the manager cannot go live
- Confirm the invitation was accepted. Check that the person accepted the invitation and is signed in with the same email address that received it.
- Confirm the role. Manager and Editor can manage live streams; Viewer cannot. Only Manager can also manage channel permissions.
- Check channel eligibility. YouTube requires the channel to be verified and to have had no live-streaming restriction in the previous 90 days. Streamers must be at least 16. A role assignment does not bypass these requirements. See YouTube’s live-streaming eligibility guidance.
- Use Live Control Room. Delegates cannot start a live stream from the encoder alone; open YouTube Studio and use Create → Go Live.
- Allow for an expired invite. Invitations expire after 30 days. If it has expired, the channel owner should send a new invitation.
