Quick wins for a faster PC:
Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →You can use a Synology NAS to store videos for a nonstop YouTube Live playlist, but the cited Synology Live Broadcast feature is for camera feeds—not stored-video playlists. To play files from the NAS, you need a separate playout and encoder process that reads the files, loops or schedules them, and sends a live signal to YouTube. If you want to avoid running that process at home, StreamNeo is a cloud option for looping uploaded videos to YouTube.
Choose the right setup for your source
First decide whether you want to broadcast a live camera or videos already stored on the NAS. These are different workflows:
- Camera feed: Synology documents a Surveillance Station Live Broadcast workflow that sends a selected camera stream to YouTube using H.264.
- Stored playlist: The NAS can provide the video files, but a separate playout and encoder process must read and send them as a live stream. The cited Synology documentation does not establish a built-in NAS playlist player for YouTube Live.
For a stored playlist, the overall chain is: NAS files → playout process that loops or schedules them → encoder → YouTube Live. Before choosing self-hosting, confirm that your particular NAS model and software can sustain the required playback or encoding workload. The available documentation does not establish model-specific capability or a current supported Container Manager/FFmpeg recipe.
Set up YouTube Live before connecting an encoder
- Enable live streaming for the channel. YouTube requires live streaming to be enabled for the account. If this is the channel’s first live stream, YouTube says activation may take up to 24 hours. See YouTube’s encoder setup guide.
- Create or select a stream in YouTube Studio. Get the server URL and stream key for that stream.
- Enter both values in the encoder. The encoder needs the YouTube server URL and matching key to send video to the right live event. Treat the key like a password: do not publish it or share it with anyone who should not be able to broadcast to your channel.
- Check the preview and stream health in YouTube Studio. Confirm that the video and audio appear as expected before relying on the setup unattended.
Broadcast camera feeds with Synology Live Broadcast
If the source is a compatible camera rather than stored files, Synology’s documented Surveillance Station path is the relevant one. The exact labels and availability can depend on the installed Surveillance Station version and setup; follow the instructions for your installation in the Synology Knowledge Center.

- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
- In Surveillance Station, enable or open Live Broadcast.
- Enter the YouTube RTMP path and the matching stream key from YouTube Studio.
- Select the camera and its stream profile.
- Check that the selected camera profile supplies H.264 video. Synology’s version 8 Live Broadcast help states that YouTube Live supports H.264 video.
- Verify the preview and stream health in YouTube Studio.
This camera workflow is not a method for selecting stored video files and making them play as a playlist.
Use NAS files for a prerecorded playlist
For stored videos, use an encoder or playout system that can access the NAS files and send a live stream to YouTube. A workable design needs all three parts:

Note: This device is not compatible with Linux.
- What You Get: Anker USB-C Hub (5-in-1, 4K HDMI), welcome guide, 18-month warranty, and our friendly customer service.
- Accessible media: The video files must remain available to the playout process on the NAS or through a network share.
- Continuous playout: Software must loop the files or follow a schedule, including what happens when a file ends or is unavailable.
- YouTube encoder output: The encoder must send a compatible signal to the YouTube server URL using the stream key configured in YouTube Studio.
The sources cited here do not verify which Synology models and software combinations can run this continuously, nor do they document current package installation steps, container images, commands, or encoding settings for a playlist. Do not assume that every NAS can transcode video nonstop. Confirm model capability, software compatibility, and the encoder’s requirements before building around a specific NAS.
Plan for archives, long streams, and viewer controls
Do not rely on YouTube’s replay as your only copy
YouTube says it can automatically archive a live stream if it is less than 12 hours. A stream longer than 12 hours may not be captured at all. Keep a local recording if the archive matters, and consider designing a schedule with streams shorter than 12 hours if you need YouTube replay archives. See YouTube’s live-stream archive guidance.

Expect limits on rewind for long broadcasts
YouTube says DVR rewind may be limited or unavailable on streams longer than 12 hours. Viewers may not be able to seek back through the full broadcast, so do not treat a continuous stream as a substitute for on-demand access to the videos. See YouTube’s DVR guidance.
Check rights and Content ID before leaving a playlist live
Only stream videos and audio that your channel has the rights to use in a live broadcast. YouTube scans live streams for third-party content and may interrupt or terminate a stream if identified content remains. Having a licence does not necessarily prevent an interruption: the rights owner may need to allowlist your channel through Content ID. Resolve that with the rights owner before scheduling the content. See YouTube’s live-stream copyright guidance.

Test and troubleshoot before treating it as nonstop
- YouTube receives no signal: Check that live streaming is enabled, the correct stream is selected, and the encoder has the matching server URL and key from YouTube Studio.
- The preview is missing or unhealthy: Check the encoder output and its connection, then inspect stream health in YouTube Studio before leaving the broadcast unattended.
- Video does not play as a playlist: Surveillance Station Live Broadcast is documented for camera selection. Use a separate playout process for files and verify that it can access and loop or schedule them.
- The NAS cannot keep up: Model-specific performance is not established here. Check the NAS’s processor and software compatibility for the actual workload; do not assume it can transcode continuously.
- A stream is interrupted after copyrighted material appears: Remove or replace content unless you have the necessary rights, and arrange any required Content ID allowlisting with the rights owner.
- A replay is missing or viewers cannot rewind far: Streams over 12 hours may not be archived, and DVR rewind may be limited or unavailable. Keep a local recording if you need a dependable copy or plan to split the broadcast into shorter sessions.
Choose between self-hosting and a cloud playout service
Self-hosting keeps files and playout under your control, but the NAS, encoder, home power, and internet connection all need to support the ongoing job. A hosted service moves the playout process off the home setup; YouTube lists Gyre as a cloud-based option for 24/7 prerecorded-video streams. The sources here do not establish comparative pricing, reliability, or performance for these approaches, so compare the provider’s terms and credential handling with the control and maintenance you want.
Or let it run in the cloud
StreamNeo is a YouTube-only cloud service for keeping uploaded videos live around the clock. Upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live; StreamNeo loops the uploaded videos from the cloud, so your NAS, computer, and home connection do not need to stay on for playout. It does not broadcast a live camera feed.
