How to Hatch and Register the Leaping Kuku Bird in Crimson Desert

The permanent Kuku Bird starts with an egg at Bloodsteel Camp in the Steel Mountains. Take that egg to the special nest east of the camp, wait for it to hatch, and feed the Kuku Bird Chick until the growth requirement is met. You can then register the grown Leaping Kuku Bird as a special mount. A bird taken from a Blinding Arrows rider is only a temporary companion and does not replace this egg-and-chick route.

This guide gives the route, the force-palm interaction used to retrieve the egg, the correct nest, the approximate incubation timing, feeding limits, registration steps, saddle vendors, and fixes for the most common points of confusion.

Quick answer: Kuku Bird egg and nest locations

Objective Where or how What you receive
Find the egg Bloodsteel Camp, Steel Mountains; enter the tower behind the camp leader’s area. Kuku Bird Egg and a related journal entry.
Hatch the egg Use the special nest east of Bloodsteel Camp, beneath a dead tree beside a cliff in a burnt clearing. Kuku Bird Chick pet.
Grow the chick Feed fruit or bugs. A guide-reported routine allows three growth feedings per day; level 3 is reported to unlock Grow. A chick ready to become a special mount.
Register the mount Use the available Grow and registration interactions after the chick reaches the required growth. Permanent Leaping Kuku Bird.
Ride a bandit bird Mount or take a Kuku Bird used by a Blinding Arrows soldier. Fleeting Companion temporary mount, not the permanent bird.

The official feature rules come from Pearl Abyss patches 1.06.00 and 1.10.00. The exact camp, tower, nest and feeding details come from location walkthroughs, so interaction prompts and timing can change with a later build.

Where to find the Kuku Bird Egg

Travel to Bloodsteel Camp in the Steel Mountains

Set your route for Bloodsteel Camp in the Steel Mountains. The camp is occupied by the Blinding Arrows, so hostile enemies may block the approach or interrupt the interaction. You do not need to search every ordinary bird nest: the egg used for the permanent mount is in a tower behind the camp leader’s area.

If the camp is active, clear enough enemies to move safely through the leader’s section. The objective is the tower itself, not a random nest around the settlement. Search the rear side of the leader’s area for the tower entrance and the concealed access point described below.

Open the concealed tower access

Walk into the tower and look for the concealed wall or trapdoor interaction. Walkthroughs describe the same force-palm puzzle with different input wording: one calls out Cling, Resist and Force Palm, while another describes climbing to a marked wall and using Force Palm to rotate it. Use the on-screen prompt for your control layout and current version rather than relying on a controller button copied from a video.

  1. Climb to the marked section of the tower if the entrance is above ground level.
  2. Target the suspicious wall, hatch or trapdoor.
  3. Use the Force Palm interaction when it appears; combine it with the Cling or Resist actions if your prompt requires them.
  4. Enter the opened space and collect the Kuku Bird Egg and the journal entry.

If no prompt appears, move around the wall until the interaction marker is centered, make sure the camp encounter is not still interrupting you, and confirm that you are at the tower behind the leader’s area rather than at an ordinary bird nest.

The correct nest for hatching

Primary nest east of Bloodsteel Camp

Carry the egg to the special nest east of Bloodsteel Camp. The reported landmark is a burnt clearing with a dead tree near a cliff. Place the egg in that nest; ordinary Kuku Bird nests around the region will not accept this quest item.

The nest can be easy to miss because the dead tree and scorched ground blend into the mountain terrain. If you reach a normal nest and receive no placement prompt, you are in the wrong location. Return to the east side of Bloodsteel Camp and search below the dead tree at the cliff edge instead of trying to force the interaction at another nest.

Alternate nest reports

Another walkthrough reports a nest near Grey Rock Quarry and Kingshield Dig Site in northwest Demeniss. Treat that as an alternate reported location, not a replacement for the Bloodsteel Camp route. The Bloodsteel egg and east-of-camp nest are the most consistently described pair for this objective; the northwest Demeniss location may reflect another egg, a second nest, or a version-specific placement.

How to hatch the Kuku Bird Egg

  1. Stand at the special nest east of Bloodsteel Camp.
  2. Choose the interaction to place the Kuku Bird Egg.
  3. Remain near the nest and watch for the warming or glowing animation.
  4. Wait for the hatch interaction to appear, then use it to receive the Kuku Bird Chick.

Incubation timing is not consistent across the available walkthroughs. One guide estimates roughly one in-game hour; another reports a couple of real-time minutes. Those measurements may reflect different patches, time settings or interpretations of the wait. Do not abandon the nest because a fixed number of minutes has passed. Watch for the visual warming effect and the hatch prompt, and allow extra time if the prompt has not appeared.

The result is a Kuku Bird Chick pet, not an immediately rideable adult. Patch 1.10.00, dated June 5, 2026, explicitly added Kuku Bird Chicks as pets and states that they can grow after being fed before they are registered as special mounts.

Feed the Kuku Bird Chick and unlock growth

What to feed

Feed the chick fruit or bugs through its pet interaction. The location walkthrough that documents the detailed routine names Pineapples and Desert Melons as favorite fruits. Favorite-food behavior is guide-reported rather than a separate mechanic specified in the official patch note, so use the available food in your inventory and follow the growth feedback shown by the game.

Daily feeding and the Grow action

The same guide reports that only three feedings per day increase growth and that the Grow action becomes available at level 3. These are practical instructions from a walkthrough, not published balance statistics, and they can be changed by a later update. If a fourth feeding produces no progress, wait for the next daily reset instead of wasting additional food.

  1. Open the Kuku Bird Chick’s pet or interaction menu.
  2. Give it fruit or bugs, prioritizing Pineapples or Desert Melons if you have them.
  3. Repeat only while the game reports growth; the guide-reported cap is three growth feedings in one day.
  4. Check the chick’s level after each feeding cycle.
  5. When the chick reaches the required growth, look for the Grow interaction rather than trying to mount it as a pet.

The official rule is broader than the guide’s level number: a chick grows after being fed and can be registered as a special mount after reaching a certain growth level. If your current build shows a different threshold, use the in-game requirement displayed on the chick.

Register the permanent Leaping Kuku Bird

Use the Grow interaction once the chick satisfies the growth requirement. The resulting adult is the Leaping Kuku Bird, the permanent mount associated with the egg route. Registration is the step that turns the grown bird into an available special mount; hatching alone does not complete the process.

Take on the role of the Greymane Kliff and embark on a journey across the continent to reclaim everything youve lost. Explore uncharted lands, encounter mysterious factions, and experience firsthand a world that is as breathtaking as it is merciless.

Patch 1.06.00 introduced registerable special mounts and noted that some species use unique taming methods. Patch 1.10.00 then clarified the Kuku Bird Chick sequence: feed the chick, let it reach the required growth, and register it as a special mount. Together, those notes explain why a chick can exist as a pet before it appears in your mount roster.

  1. Confirm that the chick has reached the growth state shown by your current game version.
  2. Select Grow and complete the prompted interaction.
  3. Accept the registration prompt for the Leaping Kuku Bird.
  4. Open your mount list and verify that the bird is listed as a special mount before travelling away.

If Grow is missing, check the chick’s level and feeding status first. A newly hatched chick, a chick that has not reached the daily feeding progress, or a bird obtained from a Blinding Arrows rider cannot substitute for the registered egg-hatched mount.

Permanent Kuku Bird versus a Blinding Arrows bird

Both birds can appear during the same Bloodsteel Camp activity, but they are different acquisition routes. The bandit’s bird is useful for immediate traversal; the egg route takes longer and produces the bird that remains registered to your character.

Feature Egg-hatched Leaping Kuku Bird Blinding Arrows bird
How you obtain it Recover the egg, hatch it in the special nest, feed the chick and complete registration. Mount or take a bird used by a Blinding Arrows soldier.
Status Permanent special mount after registration. Fleeting Companion temporary mount.
When it helps After the growth and registration work is complete. During the camp encounter, when you need a temporary ride immediately.
Does it satisfy the egg objective? Yes. No; riding it does not replace hatching the egg.
Equipment path Use a Kuku Bird saddle sold by the listed saddleries. Temporary use does not create a registered mount.

Where to buy the Kuku Bird saddle

Official patch 1.06.00 lists Kuku Bird saddles at Calphade Saddlery and Demeniss Saddlery. Visit either listed saddlery after obtaining the bird and check the special-mount equipment section.

A location walkthrough specifically places an adult saddle and an eggshell at Demeniss Saddlery. The eggshell is an in-game item associated with the bird; it is not a real-world accessory. Vendor inventories and prices can change, so rely on the current shop window for the amount required.

What the Kuku Bird is good at

The Leaping Kuku Bird’s practical strength is terrain access. Guide descriptions emphasize high jumps, gliding and controlled landings, which can make cliffs and broken mountain paths easier to cross than they are on a conventional ground mount.

The available guides do not describe it as the fastest mount, and no independent speed test is established here. Choose it for vertical mobility and landing control, not for a record-setting sprint across flat ground.

Troubleshooting the Kuku Bird quest

The egg is not in the tower

  • Confirm that you are at Bloodsteel Camp in the Steel Mountains, not a similarly named camp.
  • Search behind the camp leader’s area for the tower.
  • Clear nearby Blinding Arrows enemies so combat does not suppress the interaction.
  • Look for the concealed wall or trapdoor and use Force Palm; the exact button label can vary by control scheme.

The wall or trapdoor will not open

Move to the marked wall, climb to the correct height and wait for the interaction marker to settle. Some walkthroughs describe Cling and Resist before Force Palm, while others show Force Palm rotating the wall directly. Follow your prompt sequence rather than pressing a remembered button combination.

The nest rejects the egg

You are probably at an ordinary Kuku Bird nest. Return to the burnt clearing east of Bloodsteel Camp and inspect the nest beneath the dead tree near the cliff. The special nest is required for this egg.

The egg appears to be doing nothing

Stay close enough to observe the nest and wait for the warming or glowing animation. Reported incubation times range from a couple of real-time minutes to about one in-game hour, so use the hatch prompt and visual change as the reliable indicators instead of a single timer.

The chick will not grow

  • Feed through the chick’s pet interaction, not the mount menu.
  • Use fruit or bugs; Pineapples and Desert Melons are the named favorite fruits in the detailed walkthrough.
  • Check whether you have already used the guide-reported three growth feedings for the day.
  • Verify the chick’s level and wait for the Grow action to appear at the required growth state.

I mounted a bird but cannot register it

A bird taken from a Blinding Arrows rider is the temporary Fleeting Companion. Registration requires the egg-hatched chick to grow into the Leaping Kuku Bird. Return to the egg route if you want the permanent mount.

Patch and evidence notes

Patch 1.06.00 is the official source for registerable special mounts and the Calphade and Demeniss Kuku Bird saddle vendors. Patch 1.10.00, dated June 5, 2026, is the official source for the Kuku Bird Chick pet and the feed, grow and register sequence. The Bloodsteel Camp tower, force-palm interaction, east-of-camp nest, alternate northwest Demeniss report and incubation estimates come from location walkthroughs and may be patch-sensitive. When your prompts or timing differ, trust the current in-game objective and interaction text.
