To host Techopolis 3, use the current Minecraft 1.21.1 NeoForge release and its matching Techopolis_3-13.4_server_pack.zip. Run it with 64-bit Java 21, complete NeoForge’s first-run and EULA steps, and make port 25565 reachable. Self-hosting gives you control over files and networking; managed hosting removes much of the installation and maintenance work.

What Techopolis 3 requires

Techopolis 3 is a technology and automation modpack by benbenlaw for Minecraft 1.21.1 on NeoForge. The pack is built around custom resource generation and research-gated progression, so world generation and configuration files are part of the intended experience rather than optional extras. The project offers Normal, Hexlands, Skyblock, and Superflat world choices. Decide which world type you want before creating the permanent world, because changing generation settings later may require a new world.

Do not confuse Techopolis 3 with the older Techopolis project for Minecraft 1.16.5 Forge. They use different Minecraft versions, mod loaders, files, and installation procedures. Download from the Techopolis 3 project’s Files page and check every version label before extracting anything.

  • Minecraft: Java Edition 1.21.1
  • Mod loader: NeoForge
  • Server archive: Techopolis_3-13.4_server_pack.zip
  • Java: 64-bit Java 21
  • Default network port: 25565

CurseForge’s current files listing shows the 13.4 client archive and the matching 13.4 server pack for Minecraft 1.21.1 and NeoForge. The server pack was uploaded October 12, 2026. Keep every player and the server on that same release. The project page currently shows 489,144 downloads on CurseForge (2026); that is a project-total download count, not a player-capacity figure, performance test, or promise that a particular machine can host a certain number of people.

Choose self-hosting or a managed server

There are two practical ways to run the pack. With self-hosting, the files live on your own desktop, spare computer, or rented virtual machine. You control the Java process, configuration, backups, firewall, router, and update timing. The tradeoff is that you are responsible for keeping the machine online and diagnosing every installation or network problem.

A managed Minecraft host runs the process in a provider’s data center. You normally receive a web console, file manager, restart controls, and a public address. This avoids exposing a home network and allows the server to remain online while your PC is off, but you pay an ongoing fee and must work within the provider’s resource, backup, and file-management limits.

Neither option is automatically faster or cheaper. Compare the exact Techopolis 3 release, Java 21 support, storage, CPU and memory allocation, region, backups, network protections, controls, and cancellation terms before committing.

Self-hosting: complete setup

1. Install 64-bit Java 21

NeoForged’s user guide specifies Java 21 for Minecraft 1.20.5 and newer, which includes Techopolis 3’s 1.21.1 target. Install a 64-bit Java 21 runtime on the computer that will actually run the server. A 32-bit runtime can impose address-space limits even when the operating system itself is 64-bit.

Verify the runtime from the same account and shell that will launch the server:

java -version

The output should identify Java 21 and a 64-bit VM. If the command is missing or reports another major version, install Java 21 and update the operating system’s PATH. Machines with several Java installations are a common source of confusion: the graphical launcher may use one Java executable while a terminal script uses another. If necessary, put the full path to the Java 21 executable in your startup script so the server does not silently select an older runtime.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

2. Download and unpack the matching server pack

Open the Techopolis 3 Files page on CurseForge and download Techopolis_3-13.4_server_pack.zip, not only the client modpack archive. The server pack is the starting point for a dedicated server because it contains the server-side files and configuration intended for deployment. Keep a copy of the original ZIP somewhere safe so you can return to a clean installation.

Extract it into a new directory used only for this server. A short path without unusual permission restrictions makes administration easier. Linux, Windows, and other supported operating systems can run the files, but command syntax and script names differ by platform. Do not extract one release over another or merge a second pack into the same directory. A mixed mods folder can leave an apparently plausible installation with incompatible mod versions or configuration files.

Before first launch, record the release you installed and decide where you will keep backups. Back up the world and important configuration files before updates or experiments; a ZIP of the entire server directory is useful for restoring the clean pack, while a separate copy of the world protects player progress.

3. Install NeoForge when required

Inspect the extracted directory. If the archive includes a NeoForge installer, open a terminal or command prompt in that directory and run:

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
java -jar <neoforge-installer>.jar --installServer

Use the actual installer filename in place of the placeholder. NeoForge’s documented --installServer flow creates the server files and launch scripts. On Linux this normally includes run.sh; on Windows it normally includes run.bat. Give the shell script execute permission on Linux if the operating system requires it, then launch it from the server directory so relative paths resolve correctly.

If the server pack already contains a usable startup script and installed loader files, use that script rather than installing a second loader over the top. Running an installer twice or pointing it at a different directory can create duplicate libraries and make later troubleshooting harder. Keep the installer, generated files, and script together in the same clean server directory.

4. Perform the first launch and accept the EULA

Start the server once with the supplied script. A normal first run may initialize libraries and then stop before accepting players because it creates eula.txt. This is not necessarily a crash. Open the file, change eula=false to eula=true only if you accept Minecraft’s EULA, save it, and start the server again.

Read the console output rather than closing the window immediately. The first successful startup can take longer while files and world data are generated. Once the server reaches its ready state, stop it through the console’s normal stop command instead of killing the process. A clean stop reduces the chance of an incomplete world save. The EULA edit is an operator decision and is required for normal startup; do not distribute a server that has been started without making that decision.

5. Set JVM arguments and memory deliberately

NeoForge’s generated user_jvm_args.txt is the normal place to adjust Java arguments. Use the supplied launch script so those arguments are loaded consistently. Avoid editing generated scripts unless the pack’s documentation specifically tells you to, because an update can replace them.

The published Techopolis 3 information does not specify a RAM minimum, maximum player count, or guaranteed allocation. Do not copy a made-up number from a generic modded-server guide and call it a requirement. Choose an allocation based on world size, view distance, number of players, automation activity, and the other services sharing the machine. Leave enough memory for the operating system and any backup or monitoring tools. Watch the console, garbage-collection behavior, and system memory over a real play session; increase or reduce the allocation only when those observations justify a change.

CPU time, disk speed, and available storage matter as well. A large automation base can create a different workload from a small exploratory world. Keep the server directory on reliable storage, maintain free space for world growth and backups, and avoid running unrelated heavy applications on the same computer during play.

6. Create the world and protect it

After the server starts, use the server console or an administrator account to select the intended world type and create the world according to the pack’s configuration. Techopolis 3 lists Normal, Hexlands, Skyblock, and Superflat choices. Confirm the choice with the players before anyone invests time in the world, particularly if a Skyblock or other specialized generation mode is desired.

Mattel Games UNO Minecraft Card Game with Storage Tin,Ages 7+ | Video Game Themed Deck with Special Rule for Kids, Teens, Parties & Family Game Night, 2-10 Players (Amazon Exclusive)
  • The classic UNO card game builds fun on game night with a Minecraft theme.
  • UNO Minecraft features a deck and storage tin decorated with graphics from the popular video game.
  • Players match colors and numbers to the card on top of the discard pile as in the classic game.
  • The Creeper card unique to this deck forces other players to draw 3 cards.
  • Makes a great gift for kid, teen, adult and family game nights with 2 to 10 players ages 7 years and older, especially Minecraft and video game fans.

Do not casually replace world-generation or progression configuration files after players begin. Research-gated advancement and custom resource generation depend on the pack’s coordinated files. Before changing a setting, stop the server cleanly and make a dated backup of the world and configuration directory. Test major changes on a copy first, then keep the working backup separate from the live directory.

7. Configure networking

For a LAN game, players connect to the host computer’s local address. For internet play, NeoForged notes that environment setup may include opening the Minecraft port, which defaults to 25565, in the system and/or network firewall.

  1. Allow the Java server process through the host operating system’s firewall.
  2. Confirm the server is listening on port 25565, unless you deliberately changed the server-port setting.
  3. Forward TCP traffic for that port on the router to the host computer’s local address, or configure the equivalent rule on the hosting network.
  4. Make sure the host keeps the same local address; a changing DHCP address can send forwarding to the wrong computer.
  5. Share the correct public address and port with remote players. Do not give internet players a private LAN address.

Test from outside the home network rather than assuming that a successful local connection proves internet access. Some connections use carrier-grade NAT or block inbound traffic, in which case router forwarding alone cannot work. A managed host or another supported networking solution may be necessary. Never post a home public address broadly; share it only with the people who need to connect and use the host’s security controls.

What every player must install

Each participant needs Minecraft Java Edition and the same Techopolis 3 client release, Minecraft version, and NeoForge target as the server. A player using a different pack revision can fail during login, receive missing-mod or registry-mismatch errors, or crash while loading. Give friends the exact release identifier, Techopolis_3-13.4, rather than telling everyone to install “the latest” independently.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Players should install the pack through a launcher that supports CurseForge modpacks or otherwise reproduce the exact client files. The Minecraft Java Edition license is required for each player; a Bedrock-only installation is not a substitute for this Java modpack. Keep client configuration changes documented so you can remove them during troubleshooting.

Client-only additions should not be copied into the server directory. If someone customizes a client, compare it against an unmodified client when diagnosing a connection problem. Keep a clean copy of the official server pack for recovery, and add server-side changes one at a time with a backup before each change.

Managed hosting instead of your own PC

CurseForge’s hosted-server workflow documents these stages: choose the modpack, select a plan, choose a region, enter server details, and pay. After creation, the provider supplies connection details that can be shared with friends. Techopolis 3’s project listing includes a Bisect Hosting multiplayer link, but that link is not a universal ranking or a guarantee of current price, capacity, uptime, or performance.

Before ordering, ask whether the provider deploys the matching Techopolis_3-13.4_server_pack.zip or lets you upload it yourself. A one-click listing for a similarly named or older Techopolis project is not enough. Confirm that the deployment uses Minecraft 1.21.1, NeoForge, and Java 21, and ask how updates preserve world and configuration files.

Check Why it matters
Techopolis 3 13.4 and Minecraft 1.21.1 NeoForge Prevents deployment of the wrong loader, Minecraft version, or older pack.
Matching server-pack deployment or file upload Ensures the server uses the official configurations and mod set.
Java 21 and JVM-argument control Matches the required runtime and allows careful tuning.
CPU, RAM, and storage allocation Determines how the world handles automation, exploration, and saves; no universal Techopolis minimum is published.
Backups and restore controls Protects the world before updates, configuration edits, or failed experiments.
Region and latency A nearby region generally reduces network travel time for the group.
DDoS and network protections Helps keep a public server reachable and reduces exposure of a home network.
Port availability Confirms that players can reach the assigned server address without an unexpected networking restriction.
File manager, console, and logs Lets you inspect errors, edit approved files, and stop or restart the process safely.
Scheduled restarts and update workflow Reduces manual maintenance and provides a repeatable way to apply pack updates.
Total price and cancellation terms Reveals the ongoing cost beyond an introductory offer and explains how to leave.

Check whether backups are automatic, how long they are retained, and whether restoring one overwrites the current world. Also ask whether the provider permits custom JVM arguments and direct upload of the official server pack. A host that offers only a generic Forge template may not support this NeoForge pack correctly.

Troubleshooting checklist

The server reports the wrong Java version

Run java -version in the same environment used by the startup script. If it reports a version other than Java 21, update PATH or point the script at the full path to a 64-bit Java 21 executable. A host panel may have its own Java selector, so check that setting as well as the operating system.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

The server stops after launch

Check for eula.txt and complete the eula=true step if you accept the EULA. If it still stops, read the final console lines and the log rather than repeatedly launching the process. Confirm that the command was run from the extracted server directory and that the NeoForge installation completed.

Players receive a mod or registry mismatch

Compare the client and server release names, Minecraft 1.21.1 version, and NeoForge installation. Verify that everyone downloaded the same 13.4 release and that no files from the older 1.16.5 Forge Techopolis project were mixed in. Replace mixed files with a clean copy of Techopolis_3-13.4_server_pack.zip, then restore the latest known-good world backup if necessary.

Friends cannot connect

Confirm that the process is running and listening on the expected port, the host firewall permits Java, and router forwarding targets the host’s current internal address. Check the public address and port shared with players. The default is 25565, but a changed server-port value must be shared instead. Test from outside the LAN; a local test can succeed even when the router or internet provider blocks inbound traffic.

The world generates incorrectly

Stop and verify the selected world type and the server’s configuration files before inviting more players. Normal, Hexlands, Skyblock, and Superflat are distinct choices, and changing generation settings on an existing world may not produce the intended result. Restore a backup or create a test world to validate a change.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Crashes begin after adding files

Stop the server, restore the clean server-pack backup, and add modifications one at a time. Keep client-only mods out of the dedicated server. If the crash returns after one addition, remove that change and compare the console log with the clean installation before making another edit.

Self-host or managed host?

  • Choose self-hosting if you can manage Java, backups, firewall rules, router forwarding, and uptime, and you want direct access to every file.
  • Choose managed hosting if you want a public server without exposing a home network or keeping your own PC online, and you value web-based controls over low-level access.

In either case, start with the exact 13.4 server pack, Java 21, and a clean backup strategy. Keeping the client, server, loader, and configuration release-aligned prevents more problems than changing memory settings or adding performance tweaks prematurely.

Frequently Asked Questions

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Can I run Techopolis 3 on a dedicated server?

Yes. Extract the matching server pack, install NeoForge with --installServer when the installer is included, run the generated script, accept the EULA, and configure the network. A dedicated server can be a separate home computer, rented machine, or managed host.

What port does the server use?

NeoForge’s default Minecraft server port is 25565. Permit it through the host firewall and forward it from the router for internet players. If you change the server-port setting, share the new port instead.

Do players need the same modpack version?

Yes. Every player should use Techopolis 3 13.4 for Minecraft 1.21.1 on NeoForge, matching the server. Different releases or loaders can cause missing-mod, registry-mismatch, or startup errors.

How much RAM does Techopolis 3 require?

No Techopolis-specific RAM minimum is established in the published pack information. Choose an allocation based on world size, view distance, player count, automation workload, and the other programs on the machine, while leaving memory for the operating system. Monitor actual usage rather than relying on an invented fixed number.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Why does the server stop immediately?

On the first run, NeoForge commonly creates eula.txt and stops. If you accept Minecraft’s EULA, change eula=false to eula=true and start again. If it still stops, inspect the final console and log messages.

Can I host the server from my home PC?

Yes, if the computer can run Java 21 and you can keep the process online. For remote friends, allow the firewall and forward port 25565 to the host. Carrier-grade NAT or blocked inbound traffic can prevent home hosting even when the server works on the LAN.

Should I use a Minecraft host or my own PC?

Use self-hosting for direct file and network control if you are comfortable managing Java, backups, firewall rules, and uptime. Use managed hosting for web controls, a data-center connection, and a server that remains online without your home PC. Compare exact NeoForge support, resources, backups, region, controls, price, and cancellation terms.

Can I copy client-only mods to the server?

No. Keep client-only additions out of the dedicated server. If a customized client causes a problem, compare it with a clean Techopolis 3 client and restore the server from the clean official pack before testing changes one at a time.
