For the Java multiplayer version, use the VerityWorld MC 1.20.1-2.3.0 Serverpack.zip with Forge 1.20.1, and install the identical Minecraft, Forge, Verity, and dependency versions on every computer. Test it in a disposable world before inviting anyone. Configure the AI only after the base mod works: Java Verity documents Groq and local Ollama options, but the current dedicated-server documentation does not establish where an API key belongs or which machine sends requests. Bedrock is a separate add-on workflow and cannot use Java JAR files.

Choose the edition before you install anything
“Verity World” can refer to two different Minecraft implementations. The Java route is a Forge mod and server pack; the Bedrock route is an add-on with its own version, world settings, command flow, and limitations. They are not interchangeable. Decide which edition your group owns and intends to run, then follow only that branch.

The Java project listing showed 146,589 downloads on CurseForge in 2026 when it was accessed. The official Verity BE listing showed 7,254,119 downloads at that time. Those counters indicate project activity, not a promise that a particular release works with every host or client. Both projects can change, so record the exact release before you build a long-running world.
What a Java server needs
A hosting panel, rented machine, or home PC can provide the computer that runs Minecraft, but it does not install the game and mod profile for your players. Every person joining still needs a compatible Java Edition installation and the same mod stack. A server that starts successfully is not necessarily a server that clients can join.

- Java Edition Minecraft: use the 1.20.1 branch for the server pack described here.
- Forge 1.20.1: install the loader required by the pack, not a NeoForge profile.
- Verity release and dependencies: use the versions shipped or specified by the selected pack.
- Storage: reserve more than the pack’s download size. The listed ZIP is 1.5 GB, and unpacking it plus the world, logs, backups, and generated files needs additional space.
- A test world: use a new, disposable save while checking the installation.
- Network access: the server host must be reachable by the intended players, whether through LAN, a panel, or a dedicated host.
Do not combine the Forge 1.20.1 branch with the separate NeoForge 1.21.1 instructions. The general installation guide mentions both loader paths, but they are different environments. A client on one branch cannot be made compatible by changing only a server address.
Install the Forge 1.20.1 server pack
1. Freeze the version you are deploying
Open the current VerityWorld project listing and write down the Minecraft version, loader, Verity release, dependency versions, and server-pack filename. For the release identified in the available listing, the file is VerityWorld MC 1.20.1-2.3.0 Serverpack.zip, listed as 1.5 GB and uploaded October 4, 2026. If the project page now shows a newer file, use that file’s instructions instead of silently mixing releases.

Make a new directory used only for this installation. Extract the server ZIP into it without renaming or deleting files that the pack supplies. Keep a copy of the original ZIP and note the date and release number in a text file. Isolation makes it possible to test a change, remove the directory, and start over without damaging another Minecraft world.
3. Install the loader and use the supplied launch files
The pack’s included instructions and scripts are authoritative for its release. Install Forge 1.20.1 as directed, accept any first-run files it generates, and start the server using the supplied launcher or the command documented with the pack. Do not copy a generic NeoForge command from another guide into a Forge installation. If the first start stops for an end-user-license step, follow the pack’s documented procedure and restart; do not alter unrelated files while diagnosing the setup.

4. Install the matching client profile
On each player’s computer, install Minecraft 1.20.1 and the matching Forge profile. Download the Verity JAR and place it in that profile’s active mods folder, along with every dependency required by the selected release. A hosting panel does not populate this folder for players. Everyone should launch the same profile once and verify that Verity appears before attempting to connect.
5. Start a disposable world first
Use a new world rather than a valued survival save. Confirm that Forge reaches the title screen, Verity loads without a missing-mod error, and the world can be created and reopened. Avoid adding voice extensions, shaders, performance patches, or unrelated mods at this stage. Each extra component creates another possible cause when a crash occurs. Keep the clean test directory until multiplayer and AI checks are complete.

AI is an additional service layer, not proof that the Minecraft installation is correct. First establish that the base mod loads and that two players can enter the same test world. Only then configure an AI backend.
Hosted requests with Groq
The Java guide describes a Groq option. Create an API key with that provider, then enter it in Verity’s in-game settings as the guide for your release specifies. Treat the key like a password: do not place it in a public ZIP, paste it into a shared chat, commit it to a repository, or send it to every player. If the key is exposed, revoke it through the provider and create a replacement.

Local inference with Ollama
The alternative is a local Ollama server. Install and run Ollama on a machine that can remain available while people play, pull a model supported by your Verity release, and point Verity at that local service using the setting documented for the release. This avoids a hosted account, but the machine must have enough resources for the model and must be reachable from whichever process is making the requests.
The dedicated-server credential boundary
The multiplayer documentation does not establish whether a dedicated server, a connecting client, or another process sends chat requests for every current release. It also does not confirm a universal server-side configuration-file location for the API key. Do not guess a path or assume that putting a key in the server directory is safe. Before opening a public server, ask the maintainer for release-specific instructions and keep the credential off downloadable server files.
Verify multiplayer before inviting a group
- Launch the identical Forge profile on the host and one test player’s computer.
- Open a fresh test world and confirm that both profiles report no missing or mismatched mods.
- Connect over the intended method: LAN for players on the same network, or the address and port supplied by your host for remote players.
- Send a short in-game message and check whether Verity responds only after the AI backend has been configured.
- Remove the test world after the check, or clearly label it as disposable. Do not migrate a valuable save until the stack has survived a restart.
If the world is not discoverable, solve the underlying network or firewall problem before changing AI settings. A failed connection and a failed AI request are separate faults. Testing them independently prevents you from masking a network issue with repeated mod changes.
Choosing a host: home machine, panel, or dedicated server
Home computer or LAN
A home machine is the simplest way to prove that the pack works. Keep the server directory on the computer that will stay online, start it only when playing, and use a LAN connection for people on the same network. Remote play requires whatever port-forwarding, firewall, and address configuration your network demands; those details are outside Verity’s mod installation and vary by router and internet provider.

Managed hosting panel
A panel can run server software and provide a console, backups, and a persistent machine. It does not replace client installation, and it must allow the Forge 1.20.1 loader and the files in the Verity server pack. Check that the plan has enough storage for the 1.5 GB download plus the extracted pack and world growth. Upload the pack exactly as the host’s Forge workflow requires, then use the panel console or supplied startup method rather than substituting a different loader.

Dedicated machine
A dedicated server is useful when the world should remain online, but it introduces the unresolved AI question described above. The available multiplayer material does not provide a complete, release-independent recipe for dedicated-server requests or API-key placement. Confirm that workflow with the maintainer before purchasing a machine solely for public Verity hosting. You can still validate the Forge pack and ordinary player connections first, with AI disabled.
Aternos and other named hosts
There is no confirmed compatibility statement for Aternos in the available Verity documentation. The correct test is not whether a panel advertises “mod support,” but whether it permits the exact Forge 1.20.1 release, the required dependencies, the server-pack files, and the memory and storage those files need. If any of those conditions cannot be met, use another host or run the pack locally. Do not upload Java JAR files to a Bedrock-only service.

Bedrock requirements
The official Verity BE listing describes a separate Bedrock add-on for Minecraft 1.26.30. Its setup requires Beta APIs under Experimental Toggles, a connect command, and cheats enabled in the world. Players communicate by typing “Verity” followed by their message. These settings are part of the Bedrock add-on’s design; they are not substitutes for Forge, a Java server pack, or a Java API-key setting.

What Bedrock cannot use
Do not import the Java Verity JAR, Forge libraries, or the Java server ZIP into Bedrock. Conversely, a Bedrock add-on import does not install a Java mod on a Forge server. If your group includes both editions, treat them as separate worlds and separate instructions unless the project explicitly publishes a supported cross-play bridge.
Troubleshoot in a fixed order
The game crashes or Verity never appears
- Confirm Minecraft is 1.20.1 for the Forge server-pack path.
- Confirm the profile uses Forge, not NeoForge 1.21.1.
- Compare the Verity release and every dependency with the server pack.
- Remove optional mods and repeat the launch in a clean profile.
- Use the release’s own files and instructions rather than replacing them with a different loader build.
A player cannot join
- Verify the player launched the matching Forge profile, not vanilla Minecraft.
- Check that required JARs and versions match the server exactly.
- Test a clean two-player connection before adding more participants.
- If the world is invisible, investigate LAN discovery, firewall rules, address, and host status independently of Verity.
Verity loads but does not answer
- For Groq, confirm the key is valid, active, and entered in the release’s in-game setting.
- For Ollama, confirm the service is running, the selected model is present, and the Verity process can reach it.
- Check the server or client log for a backend connection error without publishing secrets.
- If the setup is dedicated, obtain release-specific guidance on which machine should send requests and where credentials belong.
The Bedrock dialogue control is missing
- Confirm the world uses the current Bedrock add-on version for Minecraft 1.26.30.
- Enable Beta APIs through Experimental Toggles.
- Ensure cheats are enabled, as required by the listing.
- Use the add-on’s connect command and the documented “Verity” message format.
Backups, updates, and safe operation
Back up the world before changing Forge, Verity, dependencies, AI settings, or optional mods. Keep at least one copy outside the live server directory. Label backups with the Minecraft version, loader branch, Verity release, and date so you can identify a compatible restore point.
When updating, do not overwrite a working world immediately. Copy the server directory, install the new release in the copy, and open a disposable world first. Repeat the two-player test, then test the AI backend. Only after those checks should you consider migrating a backup of the real world. A release page may change files, dependencies, or configuration expectations even when the headline feature appears unchanged.
Keep API keys private, restrict who can access the host console, and avoid posting logs that contain credentials or private addresses. Remove unused keys and shut down the server when it is not needed. These practices matter more for a public horror server because chat prompts, logs, and access details may be visible to people outside your household.
Practical launch checklist
- Edition chosen: Java Forge or Bedrock add-on.
- Exact release recorded, including Minecraft and loader versions.
- For Java, the 1.5 GB server-pack ZIP is completely downloaded and extracted.
- Every client has the same Forge profile, Verity release, and dependencies.
- A disposable world loads before optional mods are installed.
- Two players can connect without missing-mod errors.
- Groq or Ollama is configured only after the base multiplayer test.
- Dedicated-server AI behavior and credential placement have been confirmed for the specific release, rather than guessed.
- Backups exist before the first real session and before every update.
- For Bedrock, Minecraft 1.26.30, Beta APIs, Experimental Toggles, cheats, and the add-on’s connect workflow are enabled.
The dependable Java recipe is therefore incremental: deploy the exact Forge 1.20.1 server pack, match every client, prove a clean multiplayer world, and add AI as a separately tested service. Bedrock players should follow the add-on’s 1.26.30 workflow instead of attempting to translate Java instructions.
