Exporting is less straightforward. Wizards of the Coast documented an Add to Decks option for Draft and Sealed event decks in a February 7, 2020 State of the Game article. Current official material reviewed for this guide does not provide a verified, general step-by-step method for exporting an ordinary constructed deck or copying one to the clipboard. The two workflows should not be treated as interchangeable.

How do I import a decklist into MTG Arena?
Arena’s official getting-started guide and support documentation describe the same basic process. The decklist starts outside the game client and must be copied to your computer’s clipboard in a simplified text format.
Recommended Free Tools
- Copy the decklist. In any program that displays the list in a simplified format, select the complete decklist and copy it to your computer’s clipboard. Include the card quantities and names. If you are using an import file with an optional name section, copy that text as well.
- Sign in to MTG Arena. Launch the client and log in to the account where you want the deck saved.
- Open Decks. Go to the Decks tab to view your deck collection.
- Select IMPORT. The official instructions place the IMPORT control in the lower-left area of the Decks screen.
- Accept the success message. When Arena recognizes the clipboard contents, confirm the message shown by the client.
- Find and edit the new deck. Return to your deck collection and look for the imported list. Wizards’ getting-started guide says the default name is Imported Deck. Select it, choose Edit Deck, review the list, and select Done when you finish.
Wizards summarizes the first step as “Copy the desired decklist into your computer’s clipboard.” That wording matters: the import starts with text copied from another program, not with a file-picker inside Arena.

If the list was not copied correctly, the support article says Arena displays an error. Copy the list again, making sure the entire simplified list is on the clipboard, then repeat the import steps.
What should the copied text contain?
Use the plain, simplified representation shown by the source program. Each card entry should have a quantity followed by the card name, as in the official naming example. Select the whole list rather than a single card or a partial paragraph. If the source includes an optional About section, include that section at the top so Arena can read the supplied name.
A screenshot, image, or an incomplete selection is not the same as copying the decklist text. If you are uncertain what is on the clipboard, paste it into a temporary plain-text area and check that the quantities and names are present before returning to Arena. This check does not validate legality; it only helps catch a bad selection.
What a successful import does—and does not—mean
Importing creates a deck entry; it does not grant ownership of cards and does not guarantee that the deck is legal in every format. Cards absent from your collection are handled while editing. Format selection also affects which decks appear as legal, so an imported list may need changes before it can be used in the queue you selected.
Think of the confirmation as proof that Arena recognized the list, not as a promise that the deck is ready to play. You still need to inspect the deck, choose the format you intend to use, and decide whether to spend wildcards on missing cards.
How do I edit an imported deck when I am missing cards?
Open the imported deck and choose Edit Deck. Wizards says cards you do not own are highlighted in the deck editor. You can use available wildcards to craft them, individually or through the Craft All control described in the official guide.
Check the highlighted cards before spending wildcards. An imported list can contain cards from a format you are not currently building for, or cards that are not legal in the format you intend to play. Confirm the deck’s format and replace cards you do not want to craft before committing resources. Select Done after the edit is complete.

You can leave highlighted cards in the list while you compare substitutions, or remove and replace them in the editor. The import itself does not consume wildcards; resources are involved only if you choose to craft missing cards.
Can I name a deck when importing it?
Yes. Wizards announced on February 19, 2024, that deck names can be included in an import file through an optional About section. The name syntax is placed before the deck’s card list:
About
Name Mono-Red Aggro
Deck
24 Mountain
4 Shock
In this example, Name Mono-Red Aggro supplies the deck’s label, and the Deck section begins the card list. The About section is optional. Files without it continue to import, so adding a name is a convenience rather than a requirement.

Rules for the optional name section
- Put About on its own line.
- Put Name followed by the desired deck name on the next line.
- Begin the card list under a Deck heading.
- Use a quantity followed by the card name for each card entry, as shown in the official example.
- If you omit the About section, Arena can still import the decklist.
The name section changes the label assigned during import; it does not alter card ownership, format legality, or wildcard requirements. If you leave it out, use the default Imported Deck label to locate the new entry and rename or organize it through the normal deck-editing controls available in your client.
Why can’t Arena import my decklist?
The documented failure case is a list that was not properly copied. Use this checklist before trying again:
- Recopy the entire list. Return to the source, select all of the simplified decklist, and copy it again. A partial selection can leave Arena without enough information to create the deck.
- Copy plain deck text. The official instructions refer to a program that displays the list in a simplified format. Copy the text representation rather than a screenshot or an image.
- Check the clipboard before importing. Paste the copied text into a temporary plain-text area if you need to confirm that the card quantities and names are present. Do not change the text unless you are correcting an obvious selection error.
- Use the Decks screen. The import control belongs to the Decks area and is described as being in the lower-left portion of that screen.
- Look for the confirmation or error message. A success message indicates that Arena accepted the clipboard contents. An error means the client did not recognize the copied list; copy it again and retry.
Keep the troubleshooting sequence simple. Recopy first, verify the text, return to Decks, and use IMPORT again. Repeatedly clicking the control without refreshing the clipboard does not address the failure described by Wizards.
If the deck appears after import but cards are highlighted, that is a collection issue rather than an import failure. Edit the deck and decide which missing cards, if any, are worth crafting.
How do I export a deck from MTG Arena?
The answer depends on the kind of deck. Wizards has documented an in-game export-related control for Limited events, but the official sources reviewed do not establish a current universal export procedure for constructed decks.

Documented Limited-event route: Draft and Sealed
In a February 7, 2020 State of the Game article, Wizards wrote that Arena added an option to export decks from Limited events, “be they Draft or Sealed.” The article describes an Add to Decks button above the event deck box. Selecting it adds that event decklist to the player’s other decks.
This is the complete scope of the documented route:
- Enter the deck view for the Draft or Sealed event described by the 2020 announcement.
- Locate the Add to Decks button above the deck box.
- Select the button to add the event decklist to your deck collection.
- Open the resulting deck from the collection and edit it as needed.
The article is dated and specifically concerns Limited event decks. It does not establish that the same button exists for every constructed deck, that it copies a list to the computer clipboard, or that its current location is unchanged on every platform.
In other words, this route is an in-client move from a Draft or Sealed event deck into your collection. It is not documented as a text-export command, a share link, or a way to save a constructed list outside Arena.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsConstructed-deck export: no verified current official path
The current official import guide and support material explain how to bring a list into Arena, but they do not provide a current, step-by-step procedure for exporting an ordinary constructed deck or copying that decklist to the clipboard. A targeted review of official Wizards and Arena support material found the Limited announcement and import instructions, not a newer general constructed-export workflow.

For that reason, do not assume that a control named Export, Copy, or Share is present in a particular menu, and do not treat the Limited Add to Decks control as a universal constructed-deck solution. The client’s controls can change; verify the labels and location shown in your current build before relying on an export procedure.
This limitation affects what you can promise another player. You can send someone a simplified list that you already have and they can use the documented clipboard import. You cannot cite the current official material here as proof of a particular constructed-deck-to-clipboard sequence inside Arena.
How do I copy a decklist in Arena?
If by “copy” you mean moving a list into Arena, use the clipboard import process: copy the simplified text from its source, open Decks, choose IMPORT, and confirm the result.
If you mean copying an existing constructed deck out of Arena as text, the official sources reviewed here do not verify a current control or keyboard path. The documented Limited-event feature adds a Draft or Sealed deck to your Arena collection; it is not described as a clipboard-copy command. Avoid presenting an unverified menu path as fact.
For a Limited event, “copy” may therefore mean adding the event build to your other decks, while for an outside list it means placing text on the computer clipboard and importing it. Clarify which direction you mean before troubleshooting: clipboard to Arena is documented; constructed Arena to clipboard is not currently established by the cited official instructions.
Import versus the documented Limited export route
These are different operations with different starting points and destinations.
| Use case | Starting source | Documented control or input | Destination | Evidence date |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Clipboard import | A simplified decklist displayed in another program | Copy the list, then choose IMPORT in the lower-left of Decks | A new deck in the player’s deck collection, normally labeled Imported Deck | Current getting-started and support guidance reviewed in October 2026 |
| Limited event addition | A Draft or Sealed event deck | Add to Decks above the event deck box | The player’s other decks in Arena | February 7, 2020 State of the Game announcement |
The table’s second row is not evidence of a general constructed export function. It records the narrower event feature Wizards described in 2020.
The comparison also explains why the two actions feel different in practice. Import starts with a list that already exists somewhere else and creates an Arena deck entry. The Limited control starts with an event deck already inside Arena and places it in the broader deck collection. Only the first process is accompanied by current, explicit clipboard instructions.
What happens to format legality after import?
Arena can create the deck entry even when the list is not ready for the format you plan to play. Wizards explains that format selection affects which decks appear as legal. A list imported from a source using a different format may therefore require card substitutions, a different format setting, or both.
Check three things in the editor:
- The intended format: choose the format you actually plan to play before judging whether the list is legal.
- Card availability: highlighted cards are not in your collection and require wildcards if you want to keep them.
- Deck composition: review the imported quantities and sections rather than assuming that a successful import means the list is tournament-ready.
Import is a transfer of deck information, not a validation of competitive legality or a purchase of missing cards. A confirmation message answers only whether Arena accepted the list; the editor is where you resolve ownership and format questions.

A reliable workflow for bringing a shared list into Arena
For a list received from another player, a tournament page, or a deck-building application, keep the process deliberately simple:
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
- Open the source that displays the deck in simplified text.
- Select the complete list and copy it to the computer clipboard.
- Launch Arena and sign in to the correct account.
- Open Decks and select IMPORT in the lower-left area.
- Confirm the success message.
- Locate Imported Deck in the collection, or use the supplied About/Name section to identify the deck.
- Open Edit Deck, inspect highlighted cards, set the intended format, and craft only the cards you want.
- Select Done after making changes.
This workflow separates three decisions that are easy to confuse: whether Arena recognized the text, whether you own the cards, and whether the deck is legal for the selected format.
A quick pre-import checklist
- Is the complete list selected, including an optional name section?
- Does the copied text show quantities followed by card names?
- Are you signed in to the account that should receive the deck?
- Are you looking at the Decks tab rather than another collection screen?
- Have you decided which format you will check after importing?
These checks do not add requirements beyond Wizards’ documented flow; they simply prevent the most common mix-ups between a bad clipboard selection, a missing collection card, and a format mismatch.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. What the official record does and does not establish
The import instructions are current enough to give a concrete client path: clipboard, Decks, lower-left IMPORT, confirmation, and an imported deck entry. The optional naming syntax was announced on February 19, 2024, and keeps unnamed files compatible.
The export evidence is narrower. The February 7, 2020 announcement confirms an Add to Decks option for Draft and Sealed event decks. It does not document a current constructed-deck export command, a clipboard format produced by Arena, a platform-specific location, or a universal sharing workflow. Until Wizards publishes or updates those instructions, treat constructed export as unresolved rather than filling the gap with a guessed button path.
Because the Limited description is dated, check the labels in the client version you are actually using. The safe claim is that Wizards described the control for those event decks in 2020, not that every current build exposes an identical control in an identical position.
Common questions
Does importing automatically craft every missing card?
No. Missing cards are highlighted in the editor, where you can choose to craft them with wildcards, including through the documented Craft All control.
Can a file import without an About section?
Yes. Wizards says the name section is optional; files without it continue to import.
What name does Arena assign if I do not provide one?
The official getting-started guide identifies Imported Deck as the default label.

Built-in cable management guides wires along the arms, keeping cords out of sight and out of the way. Enjoy a tidy, modern workstation that looks as good as it feels to use.
Why is my imported deck not playable?
A successful import does not guarantee card ownership or legality in every format. Review highlighted cards, select the intended format, and edit the list before queueing.
Where is the IMPORT button?
Open the Decks tab and look in the lower-left area of that screen. That is the location specified by Wizards’ import instructions.
Can I use a screenshot of a decklist?
No documented workflow says that an image can be imported. The instructions call for copying the desired decklist into the computer’s clipboard, so use simplified text rather than a screenshot.
What should I do after Arena shows an import error?
Return to the source, select the complete simplified list, copy it again, and retry from Decks > IMPORT. The support guidance specifically associates the error with a list that was not properly copied.
Does adding a Name line change the cards in the deck?
No. The optional About/Name section supplies a label. It does not grant cards, change legality, or remove the need to edit missing cards.
Can I export a constructed deck to a text file using these instructions?
No. The documented instructions cover clipboard import, while the dated export-related announcement covers adding Draft or Sealed event decks to your collection. A current general constructed text-export path is not verified here.
Is the Limited event feature the same on every platform?
The February 2020 announcement does not establish platform-specific placement or guarantee that the control remains unchanged. Verify the current client’s labels before relying on it.

Frequently Asked Questions
How do I import a decklist into MTG Arena?
Copy the complete simplified decklist to your computer’s clipboard, open Arena’s Decks tab, select IMPORT in the lower-left, and confirm the success message.
What if I do not own all the cards?
Open Edit Deck. Missing cards are highlighted, and you can craft selected cards or use the documented Craft All control with available wildcards.
Can I name an imported deck?
Yes. Add an optional About section with a Name line before the Deck section, such as Name Mono-Red Aggro. Files without that section still import.
How do I export a constructed deck from Arena?
A current general constructed-deck export or clipboard-copy procedure is not verified in the official material covered here. Do not rely on an assumed Export or Copy button.
What is the Add to Decks button for?
Wizards described it in February 2020 for Draft and Sealed event decks. It adds that Limited deck to your other Arena decks; it is not documented as a universal constructed export command.
The Bottom Line
For importing, copy the simplified list, use Decks > IMPORT, confirm it, then edit the resulting Imported Deck for format legality and missing cards. Optional About/Name lines can label the file. For exporting, rely only on the dated Draft/Sealed Add to Decks description; a current general constructed-deck export path remains unverified.
