How to Improve Dragon’s Dogma 2 Performance on PS5 (Base PS5 and PS5 Pro)

By VGSources Team 10 min read

The right performance choice depends first on which console you own. Dragon’s Dogma 2 has separate evidence for the original PS5 and PS5 Pro, and its graphics menu has changed since launch. On a base PS5, use the options shown by your installed patch and treat any 60-FPS statement as unconfirmed until Capcom’s current PS5 notes verify it. On PS5 Pro, Sony documents improved frame rates and visual settings in both graphics modes, with Performance mode described as producing 4K output, but that is not a promise of a permanently locked 60 FPS.

The practical approach is to update the game, record the choices your current menu actually offers, then choose between visual quality and responsiveness. The March 2024 PS5 update historically added motion-blur control and a 30-FPS cap option. Those details remain useful context, but they are not proof that the same menu is complete or unchanged in 2026.

Start with the hardware distinction

“PS5 performance” is not one fixed target in Dragon’s Dogma 2. A launch-model PS5 and a PS5 Pro can expose different graphics behavior, and a later game patch can alter the choices shown on either machine. Before changing anything, identify the console and installed game version.

Base PS5

For the original PS5, the available evidence establishes historical controls but not a complete, current settings recipe. A March 2024 update reported by GameSpot added an option to disable motion blur and an option to cap the frame rate at 30 FPS. A 30-FPS cap is a ceiling selected by the player; it is not a measurement showing that the game renders at 30 FPS in every scene, nor does it establish how the uncapped option behaves on the current patch.

Capcom’s September 2026 Title Update 3.2 has been described in a secondary report as allowing up to 60 FPS in console Performance Mode. The available account does not identify the exact base-PS5 menu, test conditions, or sustained results. Do not treat “up to 60 FPS” as a confirmed base-PS5 result until Capcom publishes PS5-specific notes or measurements.

PS5 Pro

Sony’s PlayStation Blog says Dragon’s Dogma 2 benefits from PS5 Pro hardware with improved frame rates and visual settings in both Fidelity and Performance modes. It specifically describes PS5 Pro Performance mode as delivering 4K output resolution. Sony’s statement supports a platform advantage, not a guaranteed locked frame rate in every area, fight, or traversal sequence.

What the documented updates actually establish

Evidence Platform or scope What you can safely conclude What it does not prove
March 2024 update reported by GameSpot PS5 Motion blur could be disabled, and a 30-FPS cap option was added. It is not a complete list of today’s options and does not measure real-world frame rate.
Sony PlayStation Blog, 2024 PS5 Pro Improved frame rates and visual settings are supported in Fidelity and Performance modes; Performance mode is described as 4K output. It does not guarantee a locked 60 FPS or specify behavior in every scene.
Windows Central report, 2026 Console Performance Mode Claims up to 60 FPS after Title Update 3.2. The retrieved information does not verify the base-PS5 menu or measured results.
Capcom’s PS5 FAQ PS5 It is the official place to check platform guidance. The retrieved FAQ result did not expose current performance-setting details.

That distinction matters because a target, an output resolution, a frame-rate cap, and a measured average are different things. Keep those terms separate when you compare modes or read patch coverage.

Check the installed version before tuning

  1. Update the console. From the PS5 home screen, open the system’s Settings and check for the latest system software. A system update cannot turn an unsupported game mode into a guaranteed 60 FPS mode, but it removes a variable when you troubleshoot.
  2. Update Dragon’s Dogma 2. Highlight the game on the home screen, press the Options button, and choose the command that checks for an update. Wait for the download and installation to finish before judging performance.
  3. Read the installed patch information. Open the game’s information or update-notes entry from the PS5 interface and note the version. If the game menu contains a version or credits screen, record that too. Use the version number when comparing your behavior with Capcom’s notes.
  4. Restart after a patch. Close the game completely and launch it again after an update. This ensures you are testing the newly installed build rather than a suspended pre-update session.

If a report says “Title Update 3.2” but your console shows an older build, its claims cannot describe your current menu. Conversely, seeing a new Performance option does not by itself confirm a specific sustained frame rate.

  • 【Efficient 3‑Speed Cooling】Because the base of the PS5 console has an air outlet, the suction cooling system helps dissipate heat from your PS5 console, preventing overheating after long gaming sessions. • 【Fast Charging & Indicators】This PS5/PS5 Slim/PS5 Pro cooling stand charger can charge two PlayStation 5 controllers simultaneously within 2.5 hours. You can also check the charging status via the LED indicator next to it: red means charging, green means fully charged/standby.

Find the current graphics choices in-game

Because the menu has changed over time, use the labels displayed by your build rather than copying a launch-era recipe. From the title screen or pause menu, open the game’s Options or Settings area and enter the Graphics, Display, or similarly named section. The exact wording can vary by patch.

  1. Write down every graphics-priority or frame-rate choice before changing it. This gives you a reversible baseline.
  2. Identify whether the menu offers a visual-quality or Fidelity-style choice, a Performance or frame-rate-priority choice, a frame-rate cap, and a motion-blur toggle.
  3. Change one setting at a time. Play the same demanding location or activity for several minutes, then compare camera movement, combat responsiveness, image detail, and distracting judder.
  4. Apply the setting, leave the menu, and allow the game to finish any transition before evaluating it. Do not infer a result from a paused screen or a short trip through an empty area.
  5. If a setting is absent, do not substitute a console-wide option and assume it has the same effect. Record the absence and check the notes for your installed version.

This method cannot produce an independent benchmark, but it prevents a common error: presenting a historical control as though every current PS5 player has it.

Choose between visual quality and responsiveness

When to choose a Fidelity or quality-priority mode

  • Choose it when sharper detail, denser visual effects, or a steadier visual presentation matters more to you than the quickest camera response.
  • Use it for exploration, screenshots, or a display where image quality is more noticeable than changes in motion smoothness.
  • Do not assume “Fidelity” means a fixed frame rate. The label describes the priority, not a guaranteed number.

When to choose a Performance or frame-rate-priority mode

  • Choose it when turning the camera, aiming, climbing, and reacting in combat feel more important than maximum image quality.
  • Compare several demanding situations, including busy settlements and large fights, rather than judging only a quiet field.
  • If the current menu offers a cap, understand that selecting 30 FPS limits the ceiling; it does not prove that an uncapped mode will reach 60 FPS on your base PS5.

How to use the motion-blur option

The March 2024 PS5 update reportedly added a way to disable motion blur. Turn it off if blur makes camera movement look smeared or makes it harder for you to track enemies. Leave it on if you prefer the cinematic look and it does not bother you. This is a presentation preference; the documented update does not establish a particular frame-rate gain from changing it.

PS5 Pro: what the upgrade can and cannot solve

PS5 Pro is the only hardware difference in the available evidence that is explicitly tied to Dragon’s Dogma 2 improvements. Sony reports better frame rates and visual settings in both Fidelity and Performance modes, and identifies 4K output resolution for Performance mode.

That information supports three practical choices:

  1. Use Performance mode if responsiveness is your priority and you want the mode Sony associates with 4K output.
  2. Use Fidelity mode if you prefer the more image-quality-focused presentation while retaining the Pro-specific improvements Sony describes.
  3. Compare both in a busy area. A mode that looks excellent in a quiet scene may feel different during a crowded battle. Keep the mode that best matches your display and tolerance for motion changes.

Do not advertise or expect a permanently locked 60 FPS from the Pro based only on the official wording. “Improved frame rates” is a comparative claim; it is not the same as a guarantee that every scene reaches or holds 60 FPS.

Display settings: avoid assuming an unsupported fix

The available material does not verify that disabling ray tracing, lowering a particular quality slider, enabling 120 Hz output, or turning on VRR improves Dragon’s Dogma 2 on a current base PS5. Those features may exist at the console or television level, but their presence is not evidence of a game-specific benefit.

Use this rule when checking your display:

  • If the game itself exposes a graphics or frame-rate option, test that option in the game.
  • If only the PS5 system menu exposes a display feature, change it only when you understand what your television supports and when the game’s own notes connect it to a benefit.
  • Never report a display mode as a Dragon’s Dogma 2 performance fix without PS5-specific confirmation.

A television’s 120-Hz panel can accept different signals, but that fact alone does not establish that the game renders at 120 FPS. Likewise, VRR can alter how a display handles variable output, but the available evidence does not establish its effect for this title on the current base PS5.

A repeatable test for your own console

When you need a practical answer rather than a headline number, use a controlled comparison. You are evaluating your experience, not claiming a laboratory benchmark.

  1. Choose one save and one route that reliably includes camera movement, traversal, and combat. Avoid comparing different areas on different days.
  2. Disable other changes while testing. Keep the same display input, television picture mode, and console output configuration.
  3. Play for at least several minutes in the first graphics mode and note visible stutter, camera smoothness, image detail, and input feel.
  4. Return to the same point, switch only the game’s graphics priority, and repeat the route.
  5. If a 30-FPS cap is available, test it as a separate condition. Record it as “capped at 30,” not “runs at 30,” unless you have an independent measurement.
  6. Repeat after a major patch. A result from the March 2024 build is historical context, not a permanent description of the September 2026 build.

Write down the console model, game version, selected mode, display, and date. That small record makes forum advice more useful and stops a result from one machine being generalized to another.

Troubleshooting by symptom

The game feels uneven even in Performance mode

Confirm the game finished updating, restart it rather than resuming a suspended session, and verify that Performance mode is actually selected in the current menu. Test a busy location and an open area separately. If both feel the same, the issue may be your expectation of a target rather than a setting error: no supplied evidence guarantees a locked frame rate on base PS5.

The image is blurry during camera movement

Check whether the motion-blur control is present and disable it if you prefer a sharper moving image. The documented March 2024 change supports this as a historical PS5 option. If the toggle is missing, do not assume your build has the same menu; check the notes for your installed version.

You cannot find a 30-FPS cap

Look in the current Graphics or Display section rather than assuming the launch menu is unchanged. The cap was reported as an added option in March 2024, but the available evidence does not establish that every later build exposes it under the same label. If it is absent, record the exact version and do not claim that the game has removed it globally.

A guide promises 60 FPS on your base PS5

Check whether the guide names the console model, patch, test area, and measurement method. The 2026 report’s “up to 60 FPS” claim is not enough to establish your base-PS5 result. Treat it as a target or reported possibility until PS5-specific documentation or testing supports a stronger statement.

PS5 Pro still shows dips

PS5 Pro’s documented advantage is improved frame rates and visual settings, not an unconditional lock. Test both Pro modes in the same demanding scene, confirm the game is updated, and choose the mode whose trade-off you prefer. A dip does not contradict Sony’s comparative claim.

What a trustworthy recommendation should say

A useful recommendation names the hardware, patch, mode, and evidence level. “Performance mode is best” is incomplete unless it explains whether that means a personal preference for responsiveness, an official target, or a measured result.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
Statement Evidence label to attach
“Motion blur can be disabled.” Historical PS5 control reported for the March 2024 update; verify the current menu.
“A 30-FPS cap is available.” Historical PS5 option reported for March 2024; do not present it as a measured performance level.
“PS5 Pro performs better.” Official Sony description of improved frame rates and visual settings; no locked-FPS promise.
“The game runs at 60 FPS on PS5.” Not established by the available PS5-specific evidence.

This wording keeps advice accurate as Capcom changes the menu. It also prevents a console-wide setting, a Pro feature, or a secondary report from being mistaken for a verified base-PS5 measurement.

Best settings for PS5: a concise decision path

  1. Base PS5, current menu offers Performance: select it if responsiveness is your priority, then test a busy area and an open area. Do not attach a guaranteed FPS number.
  2. Base PS5, current menu offers a 30-FPS cap: use the cap if consistent pacing at a lower ceiling feels better to you; describe it as a cap, not proof of a constant 30 FPS.
  3. Base PS5, motion blur distracts you: turn it off when the option exists.
  4. PS5 Pro, responsiveness first: start with Performance mode, which Sony associates with 4K output, and compare it with Fidelity mode in demanding scenes.
  5. Any console after a major update: recheck the menu and patch notes before relying on an older guide.

Bottom line for PS5 players

Free in-game choices come first: update Dragon’s Dogma 2, inspect the graphics menu supplied by your build, compare its quality and Performance choices in demanding scenes, and use the historical motion-blur and 30-FPS controls only if they are present. Base-PS5 performance after Title Update 3.2 is not fully established by the available PS5-specific evidence, so a locked-60 claim would be premature. PS5 Pro is the documented hardware upgrade, with Sony reporting improved frame rates and visual settings and 4K output in Performance mode, but even that description does not guarantee a fixed 60 FPS.
