For The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt — Remastered, start by checking your game build and measuring performance in a repeatable scene. Then adjust one major cost at a time: test a supported upscaler or lower output resolution, and only then tune ray tracing or path tracing. This gives you a way to find a useful trade-off instead of lowering every setting at once.
First, confirm which version you’re playing
This advice is for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt — Remastered, released September 29, 2026. CD PROJEKT RED describes Remastered as a free upgrade for existing owners on supported platforms, with enhanced visuals and performance and path tracing on PC. Older guides may refer to different menus and feature support, so confirm your build before following any menu-specific instructions. CD PROJEKT RED’s Remastered announcement describes the release and GeForce NOW streaming option. [c003]
The current PC version includes DirectX 12 rendering with multithreading, Path Tracing, NVIDIA DLSS 4.5 with Ray Reconstruction, AMD FSR 4, and Intel XeSS 2.0. Because menu labels and availability can change with patches and hardware, check the current in-game options and official notes rather than relying on an older settings guide. Official Remastered PC notes list the technologies and compatibility details. [c002]
Establish a baseline before changing settings
Choose a repeatable scene and note your output resolution, graphics preset, ray-tracing or path-tracing state, upscaler and quality mode, frame-generation setting, and observed frame rate. Revisit the same scene after each change. Scene, system configuration, graphics settings, and output resolution all affect performance; CD PROJEKT RED specifically notes that higher resolution significantly affects FPS. The current PC requirements page explains that performance varies by configuration and scene. [c001]

Look beyond a single peak FPS reading. Compare frame rate and frame-time consistency in the same scene, then inspect fine detail and image stability while moving the camera. A setting that raises the displayed frame rate but makes foliage, edges, or motion look distracting may not be the right trade for your setup.
Use this order to find a better trade-off
- Check your target and requirements. Compare your hardware with the live requirements for the resolution and rendering mode you actually want. The requirements page is the authority for the current hardware tiers and targets; its exact tier values can change, so consult the current table rather than copying old minimum or recommended specifications. [c001]
- Test resolution or the upscaler. If performance is below target, try the upscaler supported by your GPU in an appropriate quality mode, or test a lower output resolution. Compare both the same-scene performance and image quality. This is a diagnostic sequence based on the documented resolution/settings trade-off, not a promise of a particular FPS gain.
- Test ray tracing or path tracing next. If the first change is not enough, adjust the costly ray-tracing options and retest. Choose the mode that gives you the visual effects you value while keeping performance acceptable; there is no universally best preset established for every PC.
- Change one major setting at a time. Keeping the rest of your configuration fixed helps you see which change mattered. Record the result before combining settings, so you can undo a change that harms image quality more than it helps performance.
Choose an upscaling and frame-generation option your GPU supports
The Remastered PC notes list DLSS 4.5 with Ray Reconstruction, FSR 4 with Frame Generation and Anti-Lag 2, and XeSS 2.0 with Frame Generation and Low Latency. These are not interchangeable options available to every player: support depends on hardware and game settings. In particular, CD PROJEKT RED says FSR 4 works on AMD Radeon RX 7000 Series and newer; unsupported GPUs use FSR 2. Check the current patch notes and in-game options for the path available to your system. [c002]

Frame generation is a separate setting to consider when supported. Compare its result in the same scene and pay attention to responsiveness as well as the displayed frame rate. The available notes identify supported technologies but do not establish a universal image-quality or latency advantage for every system.
Read performance targets with their rendering method attached
Official expected-performance configurations are not all measured the same way. CD PROJEKT RED says the RT Minimum, RT Recommended, and Path Tracing expected-performance figures use DLSS, FSR, or XeSS set to Auto. Other listed configurations use native resolution with upscaling off; Path Tracing also uses upscaling and Frame Generation. Compare like with like: a target using automatic upscaling or frame generation is not a native-rendering result. The official requirements page provides the current context. [c001]

NVIDIA separately reports up to 245 FPS at 4K and up to 320 FPS at 1440p on an RTX 5080 in its stated path-tracing configuration with DLSS 4.5 and Multi Frame Generation. These are NVIDIA’s vendor-reported figures, not independent benchmark results, and should not be treated as a forecast for another GPU or configuration. [c005]
Check storage, operating-system support, and updates
- Storage: CD PROJEKT RED says an SSD is required for the latest technical enhancements. [c001]
- Windows: Windows 10 is no longer officially supported. The game may continue to run, but CD PROJEKT RED no longer develops or tests on that operating system and cannot guarantee compatibility or performance. [c001]
- Drivers: Keep your hardware on official manufacturer updates, as advised by CD PROJEKT RED. [c001]
When a hardware or streaming change makes sense
Consider a GPU upgrade only for a specific target
A graphics-card upgrade is a relevant option if your hardware falls short of the live requirements for the demanding ray-traced mode you want. It is not the default fix for ordinary performance tuning: first check the requirements, resolution, and supported settings. NVIDIA’s RTX 5080 figures are vendor claims for a particular path-tracing setup, not evidence that a premium card is necessary for the game at other settings. [c001][c005]

Consider cloud streaming if your local PC is the limitation
CD PROJEKT RED says owners without a capable local RTX system can stream Remastered through GeForce NOW. Whether that is a practical alternative depends on current catalog availability, region, membership, and network conditions; verify those details for your location before relying on the service. Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Avoid outdated setting recipes and unsupported promises
An NVIDIA settings guide published for the 2015 release may offer historical context for the kinds of graphics options the game once exposed, but it is not a reliable menu guide for Remastered. Likewise, no setting change can be assigned a guaranteed FPS gain from the available official information: scene, hardware, resolution, and rendering mode all matter. Use your own repeatable comparison rather than assuming a preset or a vendor figure will reproduce on your PC. [c004][c001]
